Ordinances were issued by a guild of paviors in 1479, although a charter was not granted until 1672. Thus the Company attained greater recognition as the practice of paving became more widespread. However, the Company languished in 1845 and was not revived until 1889.

The records of the Company were deposited in the Manuscripts Section of Guildhall Library in 1873. The Manuscripts Section merged with London Metropolitan Archives in 2008. The records were catalogued by a member of Guildhall Library staff.

Records of the Worshipful Company of Paviors. The records were compiled between 1565 and 1861, but they include a copy of the 1479 ordinances. They also include registers of freedom admissions; apprentice bindings from 1565; Court minute books; alphabetical lists of members, giving dates of freedom, addresses and trades; financial accounts and administrative papers.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ACCESS: These records are stored at the Guildhall Library site rather than the LMA Clerkenwell site. Researchers wishing to access these records should do so at the Guildhall Library Rare Books table. The Library is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 16:45. Researchers will need to have an Archives History Card or a Library Readers Card. An archivist will be available at Guildhall Library on Thursday mornings to answer any queries.

As the archive is large and complex, and to assist the user, the catalogue has been arranged in sections as follows: A Constitutional records; B Court records; C Membership records; D Financial records; E Trade records; F Clerk's records; G Charities and estates.

These records are available for public inspection, although records containing personal information are subject to access restrictions under the UK Data Protection Act, 1998.
