The papers relating to Sir Hugh Cloberry Christian all date from 1798 when he was second in command of the Cape of Good Hope station. They include official correspondence relating mainly to the day to day running of the station but particulaly to the mutiny and subsequent Court Martial concerning the East Indiaman, PRINCESS CHARLOTTE. The papers relating to Sir Hugh's son, Hood Hanway Christian, are more extensive. Apart from an order book from 1812, when Christain was the governor of the Spanish fort at Castro, they are mostly official correspondence from the period 1824-1828. These relate to the supression of the slave trade and various disciplinary proceedings together with correspondence from the Navy Board. There is a small amount of personal correspondence including letters from Sir Richard Keats and Sir Edward Pellew.

Papers of Sir Edmund Robert Fremantle. They cover Fremantle's career well, especially the Maori and Ashanti war periods. They include logs, 1849 and 1859, 1856 to 1857 and 1873 to 1881; letterbooks, 1862 to 1876, 1879 to 1880; personal letters written mainly between 1864 and 1866 and papers relating to his commands, 1889 to 1895. There is also a section which deals with his court martial for grounding the ECLIPSE in 1866.

Papers of Cpt Stephen Grenville Fremantle. They consist of logs, 1828 to 1829, 1839 to 1841; letter and order books, 1839 to 1842, 1852 to 1857, and a private record of letters sent and received, 1847 to 1848. There is also a privately-printed statement in answer to the charges made against him as Captain of the Juno.

Papers of Sir George Grey. They consist of logs, 1795 to 1798 and 1800 to 1801, letter and order books, 1795 to 1801, and an order book, 1795 to 1801. There are some loose papers, including an account of the loss of the Boyne and of Grey's court martial In addition there are extracts copied from the journal of Sir George Rooke (1650-1709), 1692 to 1704; a volume of copies of General James Wolfe's (1727-1759) orders issued in 1759; and a volume with copies of correspondence exchanged between Admiral Sir Benjamin Hallowell (q.v.) and General Donkin (1773-1841) concerning a proposed duel, 1813 to 1815.

Papers of Sir Charles Saxton, consisting of a report and notes on settlements in Nova Scotia, 1762, an order book, 1780 to 1783, a book of 'remarks made in the presence of the French' in the Invincible, 1781 to 1782, accounts of Portsmouth Dockyard produced for the 1792 . Visitation and general rules for courts martial using the precedents of 1746, 1763 and 1773.

Papers of Rear-Admiral Thomas Graves. They consist of logs, 1738 to 1744, an official letterbook, 1711 to 1738, a private letterbook, 1721 to 1740, and two order books, 1711 to 1728 and 1739 to 1741. There are some commissions and an abstract of orders received, 1739 to 1743.

Papers of Capt Tynte Ford Hammill, covering the bombardment of Alexandria and the landing at Port Said, for which there are some orders received and a report of proceedings; for the Nile Expedition there is a record of telegrams sent and received, orders received and printed reports on the navigation of the river. There is also a volume of press cuttings on the courts martial following the stranding of the Howe in 1892 at which Hammill gave evidence.

World Jewish Congress Central files on microfilm, 1919-1976, comprising Sub-series 1: Organisational History and Activities, 1919-1970, includes correspondence, minutes and publications and reports related to the organisational and political activities of the WJC and its forerunner, the Committee of Jewish Delegations. Reports on the history and activities of the WJC from before its inception through to the 1960s are also included in this sub-series. Significant subjects covered include anti-Semitism, relief for refugees, and relations with the League of Nations. More material dealing with WJC activities in Europe during the 1930s can be found in Sub-series 2 under the Stephen S. Wise/Lillie Shultz and Nahum Goldmann papers, and under Pre-WJC Conferences and the First Plenary Assembly (1936) in Sub-series 3.

Sub-series 2. Executive Correspondence and Project Files, 1920, 1931-1975, includes records and reports from the files of WJC presidents (Stephen S. Wise, Nahum Goldmann); chairmen of the Executive Committee (Nahum Goldmann, Israel Goldstein); followed by the administrative/executive directors of the New York office (Abraham S. Hyman, Monty Jacobs, Yehuda Ebstein, Greta Beigel). The sub-series contains general correspondence arranged chronologically, individual and departmental correspondence, country files, subject files, speeches, and publications.

Sub-series 3: Plenary Assemblies, pre-1936 conferences, and special conferences, 1932-1975, contains minutes, proceedings, reports, and other materials dealing with three pre-WJC conferences together with extensive files for the first six WJC Plenary Assemblies (1936-1975). Also included are materials pertaining to the War Emergency Conference (1944) and the Inter-American Jewish Conference (1941).

Sub-series 4: Committees, 1940-1976, consists of 33 boxes in its original format. This sub-series contains materials pertaining to committee meetings (Office, Administrative, Executive). The Executive Committee files include material from the South American, European, and Israeli Branches of the Executive. The records of the Living Wills Working Group and Living Wills Project at King's College London consist of correspondence and completed survey questionnaires, 1985-1992. These include correspondence concerning the Living Wills Working Party set up by the Centre and the charity, Age Concern, 1985-1989; correspondence and completed questionnaires of a survey of patients, doctors and nurses to assess the needs of HIV sufferers as part of the Living Wills Project run by the Centre in association with the Terrence Higgins Trust, 1991-1992.

The collection consists of working papers relating to Buchanan's professional career as a forensic psychiatrist in the UK, [1984]-2001, chiefly research papers relating to the Special Hospitals Service Authority and psychiatric reports relating to Maudsley Hospital patients.
Section 1 comprises papers arising from the daily administrative operations of Maudsley Hospital London. Section 2 contains research notes, questionnaires and criminal record 'multiple enquiry forms' produced from the Home Office Offenders Index. This material relates to an unpublished study conducted by Buchanan from 1992-1995 of discharged special hospital patients convicted of violent re-offences. The findings, intended to inform the decision making of those entrusted with the care of special hospital patients, were funded by the Special Hospitals Service Authority. There are also confidential psychiatric reports (see ref 3/1 to 3/6), produced by forensic psychiatrists at Maudsley Hospital, London. The reports evaluate an individual's competency to stand trial, defences based on mental diseases or defects (for instance the "insanity" defence), and sentencing recommendations. Section 4 contains questionnaires relating to a project funded by the John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation focused on developing the Maudsley Assessment of Delusions Schedule to provide a more accurate and effective way of assessing patient's delusions. Section 5 consists of papers relating a psychiatric case assessed by Buchanan in his capacity as a member of the Serious Untoward Incident Panel of the Hounslow and Spelthorne Community and Mental Health NHS Trust. The collection also includes photocopies of articles from medical publications and on-line resources compiled by Buchanan which relate to the ethical connotations of patient confidentiality in connection with medical trials and research (see ref 6/1).

The trial of the de-naturalisation of Feodor Fedorenko (aka Feoder Dimitrievich Fedorendo aka Feoder Fedorenko aka Vladimir Serduik), former Ukranian prison guard at Treblinka, initially took place at Waterbury, Connecticut, USA. It was adjourned, to be reconvened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The case was brought on the accusation that Fedorenko had illegally obtained naturalisation as a US citizen because he had lied at the time of entry into the US, by withholding the fact he was a guard at the death camp, Treblinka. However, the judge in this case, refused to believe the testimony of the witnesses for the prosecution, claiming that they had conspired and that their testimony was coached. The case was later successfully appealed, and Fedorenko became the first Nazi war criminal to be deported to the Soviet Union. In a court in Southern Ukraine, June 1986, he was found guilty in of treason; voluntarily going over to the side of the Fascist aggressors; taking part in punitive actions against the peaceful population; and mass executions of citizens of many countries. He was sentenced to death in Kiev in 1986.

List of prisoners in Lehrstrasse Prison involved in the 20 July 1944 bomb plot against Adolf Hitler, including arrival and release date, the latter annotated with destination. Those who were transported to the Plötzensee Prison were probably executed.

Family papers of Hilde Sanderson, 1926-1980, comprising papers relating to restitution claims for relatives of the sisters Rosa and Hedwig Seelig including correspondence between family members, witnesses and lawyers; affidavits of witnesses; inventories of possessions stolen and records of the court's decision, 1926-1980 and family correspondence, 1939-1962, mostly addressed to Hilde Sanderson (née Tachauer) including letters from her aunts Rosa and Hedwig Seelig, Frankfurt 1939.

Names that occur in the papers include: Stanley Tash (Sally Tachauer), Hilde Sanderson (née Tachauer) and Gisela (Ella) Feuchtwanger (previously Plaut, née Tachauer), Hedwig, Rosa and Alfred Seelig, Ilse Seelig, (later Warner) - a cousin of Regina Tachauer (née Tachauer), Stanly Tash's mother. Isak Tachauer was the father.

Copies of correspondence and papers regarding the persecution of Karl and Katharina Schreiner, Trier, Rheinland Pfalz, 22 Mar 1934-11 Apr 1949, including statements of denunciation by various individuals, and the views of the Nazi party, Trier, the mayor of Trier and the state prosecutor at the Sondergericht, Koblenz. The Schreiners' offences consisted of refusal to give the Nazi salute; refusal to contribute to Nazi organisations and causes; opposition to their children joining the Hitler Youth; and refusal to hang Nazi flag on harvest festival, 1934.

Five items dating from 1471-1476 and 1547 from the Veere Magistracy concerning the payment of monies. Manuscripts 4-7 are concerned with the parties John van Zantgaten and John Belt; manuscript 8 concerns a Scottish Conservator, John Moffat, and the Councillors of Veere.

Gift with warranty for a consideration in money by John Dyott and Richard Smyth (Smith) of the city of Lichefeld (Lichfield) to Walter Gryffyth (Griffith) of Whychenor (Wychnor), Staffordshire, of the farm of their manor of Little Kelke (Kelk, East Riding) near Burton Annas (Burton Agnes, East Riding) which they had by conditional gift of Sir George Gryffyth (Griffith), the donee's father. Printed warrant, completed in manuscript and dated 28 May 1751, directed to the constable of Thornham Magna (Great Thornham), Suffolk, to produce Ann Lincoln, single woman, before E. Frere, Justice of the Peace to answer charges brought against her by Thomas Mottram of 'keeling false and short yarn'. Conduct record of John Warrow, a labourer born in Africa, convict no. 2039, from a court martial in Trinidad in 1834 to his transportation to Sydney in 1838, together with a physical description of the man. This colonial conduct record describes alleged offences against the disciplinary regime of penal settlements.

Manuscript volume, 1701-1704, containing the legal opinions of Sir Edward Northey, Attorney General, on cases submitted by the Treasury Board between 2 Oct 1701 and 29 Sep 1704 on matters including Customs and Excise, maritime law including the Navigation Act, prizes taken by Her Majesty's ships of war, the colonies, the Post Office, and the armed forces.

Transcript, probably made in the late 17th century, of the allegations made by Thomas Grey, 2nd Earl of Stamford, against his wife for adultery before the Court of Arches, under 35 articles. Thomas Exton is given as the Dean of Arches. One page is blank except for: 'this side was skipt by the transcribers oversight'.
