Many of the letters are addressed to Thomas Joseph Pettigrew (1791-1865), surgeon and antiquary, and to H C White. The album was compiled by Harriott Cuff White (née Maxwell), wife of John Charles White (d. 1864), merchant, of London, between 1856 and her death in 1877.
