Thomas Herbert Bickerton (1858-1933), was a distinguished ophthamologist. He also wrote a Medical history of Liverpool from the earliest days to the year 1920 published by his son in 1936. Ophthalmic Surgeon, Liverpool Royal Infirmary, 1886-1919; President of the Liverpool Royal Infirmary, 1923; elected FRCS in 1926.

The papers reflect Bickerton's interest in colour blindness, and his studies of seamen and railwaymen in this respect. Also his work at Liverpool Medical Institution is well documented, with details of opthalmic surgery and case photographs surviving.

Arranged in sections as follows: Colour-blindness: clinical notes, extracts, etc, 1885-1901; operation book, 1885-1902; albums, photographs, correspondence and drafts of addresses and articles, 1884-1927.

The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.
