Biographical history
A social studies course was first introduced in 1941 at the then Chelsea Polytechnic to help train Red Cross and civil defence workers for social work after the war. This led to the creation in 1970 of the Department of Sociology and Psychology that aimed to cover work in social and behavioural sciences, including a postgraduate course in Social Work Studies and a two-year MSc course, which also led to the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work. The Department Sociology and Psychology was closed at the end of 1983.

A social studies course was first introduced in 1941 at the then Chelsea Polytechnic to help train Red Cross and civil defence workers for social work after the war. This led to the creation in 1970 of the Department of Sociology and Psychology that aimed to cover work in social and behavioural sciences, including a postgraduate course in Social Work Studies and a two-year MSc course, which also led to the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work. The Department Sociology and Psychology was closed at the end of 1983.

Information typically contained includes correspondence; details of work placements, including placement reports; references; assessments; coursework, including essays, dissertations, case studies; examination scripts. The records also contain a small quantity of administrative material including reports of examiners' meetings and student-related finance (Ref: 1987/CDS).
Organised chronologically and then alphabetically within years.
Subject to an eighty year closure period from date of leaving, but may be consulted by appropriate College staff at the discretion of the Director of Archive Services.
Copies, subject to the condition of the original, can be supplied to appropriate College staff. Requests to publish original material should be submitted to the Director of Archive Services, King's College London.
