This collection consists of 186 letters sent to or written by Samuel and Henrietta Barnett. The correspondence is from public figures, including authors, poets, artists and other social reformers.

Records relating to J Lyons and Company Limited, food manufacturers and caterers, comprising copy of publication "The Lyons lithographs" by Richard Russell, 2000.

Records of J Lyons and Company Limited and Lyons Tetley Limited, food manufacturers and caterers, W H and F J Horniman and Company Limited and Joseph Tetley and Company, tea merchants, 1849-1978.

This collection contains records relating to all three companies (Horniman, Lyons and Tetley) when they were trading as separate businesses and when they were united under various incarnations of the one "Lyons" name. (They include references to other companies such as Symbol biscuits which Lyons took over in 1944)

However, despite the fact that some corporate records such as minutes have been retained by the Tetley Group Limited the majority of this collection is in fact composed of records relating to the Lyons company (which is necessarily linked with the former due to the fact it was a major competitor for years before taking it over in 1973).

Marketing and publicity aspects are the most heavily represented. As such this is a visually appealing collection and of particular note are the photograph albums and volumes of artwork, product labels and advertisments which are a testiment to the impact tea drinking has had on British society and its way of life.

There are numerous items of interest including an album of Taylor Walker advertising cuttings from 1950s (LMA/4433/C/04/001) and photographs from the official opening of the Alperton Bottling plant in 1951 (LMA/4433/E/01/010).

Records of Taylor Walker and Co Ltd, brewers, 1759-1972. This collection contains corporate, staff, premises and miscellaneous records. Corporate records include minutes of directors' meetings, articles of association and copartnership, registers of seals and supply agreements. Staff records include minutes of Employees Representative Committee meetings. Premises records include early title deeds for brewery premises as well as for individual public houses and mortgage records. The miscellaneous series comprises an album of advertising cuttings.

Records of Claude-General Neon Lights, neon light manufacturers, 1921-1985. This collection contains corporate and accounts records including minutes of Directors' meetings, register of Directors and Members, articles of association, annual returns and end of year accounts.

Records of Oldham Sign Service, sign makers, 1930-1988. This collection contains corporate and accounts records including minutes of Directors' meetings, documents relating to Annual General Meetings, articles of association, trading agreements, asset transfer documents and some general correspondence.

Records of the Exploring Living Memory project, organised by the London History Workshop Centre. This collection contains files relating to the administration and organisation of the Exploring Living Memory workshops, conferences and exhibitions together with copies of images and sample sections of text used in the displays of participating groups and individuals. There are a variety of images depicting individuals, family groups and war time experiences together with images of London both past and present.

These records will primarily be of interest to those concerned with the foundation and development of breweries or with the history of family businesses. Records include ledgers detailing Whitbread exports and ship stocks from the 1920s through to the 1970s along with advertising from the launch of various Whitbread products abroad most notably that of Mackeson Stout and Whitbread Premium Draught Beer.

Records of Stowells and Sons, wine and spirits merchants, comprising a range of company records from 1845 to 1976 including records covering corporate and financial business, sales and production, staff, property and advertising, as well as records from companies acquired by Stowells from the 1930s onwards including Ellis, Wilson and Bacon Limited, Findlater, Mackie and Company Limited, E. Robins and Sons Limited and Apain and Albury Limited.

Records of R White and Sons Limited, soft drinks manufacturers, including a ledger covering profits and sales figures for R White & Sons from 1845 through to 1951 along with obituaries, details on property and wages, and a corporate and financial history of the Company. Records relating to the International Bookfair of Radical Black and Third World Books, including original programmes, stationery, correspondence and notes from members of The Alliance and from artists and those who attended the conferences. Also listings of families and individuals who provided accommodation for artists and rotas for the staffing of the Fairs.

The programmes are an excellent resource for information about the social and political issues that were of concern to Black people living in London in the 1980s and 1990s. They show the international links and connections between individuals of different artistic disciplines.

The development of the organisation and it's influence on diverse groups in the community are well documented in the correspondence and minutes; LMA/4462/M/01 and 02.

The photographs are both formal and informal. They show the Fair in action and special guests and artists performing or speaking at the different events. One album was put together by a participant as a gift to the Huntleys.

The press cuttings give valuable information on how the Fairs were being received by the Black community and others in London and internationally. There is an exclusive interview with Sonia Sanchez and an article by Margaret Busby which gives an historical overview of the Fair.
