The Ebers Papyrus was named after its owner, Georg Moritz Ebers (1837-1898) and comprises an ancient Egyptian text on medicine. A translation from ancient Egyptian into German was published by Dr. Heinrich Joachim in 1890. These papers comprise a translation of Joachim's work into English by Dr. Arthur F. Hopkirk.

MSS.2272-2277 comprise Hopkirk's manuscript translation of Joachim's text; a bibliography, contents, index and notes are inserted into MS.2277. MSS.2278-2279 are a typescript copy of Hopkirk's translation.
The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

Please note that material may be unsuitable for copying on conservation grounds, and that photographs cannot be photocopied in any circumstances. The material described here is an unpublished translation into English of Papyros Ebers: das älteste Buch über Heilkunde by Heinrich Joachim (Berlin: Georg Reimer, 1890). Another English translation of Joachim's text was published in 1930 by C.P. Bryan: The Papyrus Ebers / translated from the German version by Cyril P. Bryan ... with an introduction by Professor J. Elliot Smith (London : G. Bles, [1930]).
