South-Western Polytechnic, Chelsea Polytechnic, Chelsea College of Science and Technology, and Chelsea College Serial Publications, 1904-1983. This class of material comprises College magazine and journal periodicals, and provides a snapshot of the academic and social life of students and staff from the early phase of the Polytechnic until shortly before the merger with King's in 1985, and includes the South Western Polytechnic Journal, 1904-1906; The Magazine of the Chelsea Polytechnic, 1929-1939; Chelsea College of Science and Technology Gazette, 1962-1969; The Bell, the magazine of the Chelsea Pharmacy Association, 1953-1968; and New Leaf, the Humanities Society journal, 1973-1982.

Draft case studies used by B L Jacobs in his book East African administration, published in Entebbe, Uganda, by the Government Printer [1965]. The book was impounded and burnt by the Ugandan police. Subjects include copies of official correspondence on Banyaruanda refugees, 1961-1962; copies of official correspondence on strike of students at the Nakaura Engineering School, 1957-1958; documents on scheme for 300 scholarships, 1961-1962 and documents on the integration of the Department and Ministry of Education, Uganda, 1960-1962.

Papers of Sir Sydney Caine, [1955-1968], notably material on the early history of the London School of Economics, [1955-1958], including copies of articles by Lady Janet Beveridge concerning the administration of the LSE following World War One and the Directorship of William Henry Beveridge, 1st Baron Beveridge of Tuggal; papers relating to Caine's Directorship of the LSE, 1966-1969, mainly comprising material relating to student unrest; two volumes of a personal diary, 1942-1943; a photograph album of the West Indian Sugar Commission, 1929-1930.

Papers and notes by Professor Lakatos on the philosophy of mathematics and science, including notes on Feyerabend, Kuhn and Popper; correspondence with many academics and philosophers; papers relating to the International Colloquium on the Philosophy of Science organised by Lakatos in 1965; and biographical material, desk diaries, press cuttings, and papers relating to student politics and the LSE 'troubles'.

Correspondence, publications and press cuttings, 1959-1987, collected by Roger Virgoe, relating largely to the University of Khartoum and the political situation in the Sudan in the 1960s. Letters from colleagues and staff at the University describe the lead up to and events of the demonstrations in 1964. Publications include copies of the University of Khartoum Bulletin (1961-1964), reports on educational policy and reform (from 1959), and material relating to Sudanese history and antiquities (including a publication by A. J. Arkell).

Papers relating to student unrest at the University of Transkei (UNITRA), South Africa, 1984, triggered by the questioning of four students, and the detention of two others by security police; this led to the boycotting of classes and closures of the campus. Many students were arrested and detained, several members of the Students' Representative Council were suspended by the University and four members of staff were deported from Tramnskei. The papers include documents produced by the Principal and other members of the University administration and the Students' Representative Council, during the period of unrest; legal papers concerning court action brought by suspended students; submissions to the ensuing Commission of Enquiry; and news cuttings relating to student unrest, 1980-1984.

Papers of Baruch Hirson chiefly comprising thirty six boxes of research notes including manuscript notes, typescript drafts and photocopies, arranged by subject on topics including South African politics, trade unions, racism, imperialism, industry and economics. The collection also includes seminar papers by Hirson given at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies; photocopies of correspondence on Hirson's appointment as a Lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of the Witwatersrand, 1960; photocopy of memoranda written by Dennis Goldberg to the South African Commission of Inquiry into the Penal System from political prisoners in Pretoria Local prison, [1974]; photocopies of material on the Soweto riots, 1976, collected by Hirson while working on his book Year of Fire, year of Ash: the Soweto revolt; roots of a revolution (1979), including press cuttings, published and unpublished papers on the riots, and material produced by the Soweto Students' Representative Council and other groups including the African National Congress (ANC), Black Peoples Convention, Cape Town University Students' Representative Council, the Black Parents Association, the University of Natal Medical Students' Representative Council and the National Union of South African Students. The UCL College Archives are comprised of material charting the history of the university, from its establishment in 1826 to the present day. Most of the collection consists of material created in the day-to-day running of the institution and includes records such as foundation deeds and papers, committee minutes, administrative correspondence, department records and reports, early student society/association papers, staff and student files, building plans and maps, artwork and photographs.
