Armed Forces Oral Histories: US Army Senior Officer Oral Histories is a themed microfiche collection of 96 interviews of senior US Army personnel, 1971-1986. The interviews cover the entire career of the interviewee. As biographical interviews, they emphasise the significant events in which the subject took part and the personalities with whom the subject came into contact. Many of the interviewees had long careers that spanned World War Two, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. A themed microfiche collection relating to material produced by the Historical Detachments of the US Army during the Korean War, 1950-1953. The scope and content of the interviews and studies therein was influenced by the nature of the conflict and by the types of units employed in combat. Despite the involvement of United Nations forces and the US Marine Corps, all units interviewed by the Historical Detachments were from the US Army. The two primary components of this collection are 'After-Action Reports' and 'Studies'. 'After-Action Reports' include accounts of combat-related activities of specific units during a campaign, engagement, or operation. They focus on the role or scope of action of particular units for a given period of time at a specific location, and consist of a narrative account of the action, combat interviews, and supplementary materials, including manuscript and printed maps, charts, and photographs. 'Studies' were prepared by the Historical Detachments to provide insight into unit strengths or deficiencies or problems in fundamental strategic and tactical matters, including the use of new weapons, techniques for supply and support, and fighting behaviour. Manuscript notebook belonging to Carl Menger, [1890], containing names and university addresses of professors of political economy and other related disciplines across the world, as well as the names of principal economic journals. The volume also contains some loose correspondence.

Letters received by Dr Anne Summers (formerly of Wellcome Unit Oxford) in 1987, in response to a broadcast on Woman's Hour (BBC Radio), and an article published in Nursing Times; material in connection with the conference 'Memories of Health and Caring', Morley College, London, April 1987.

The letters contain accounts of individuals' experiences of health care they and their families received prior to the inception of the National Health Service (and some accounts by health care professionals), ranging from brief anecdotes to several pages of reminiscences.

The conference papers include list of attendees, financial arrangements, copies of newspaper articles and correspondence.

The collection centres on tropical medicine. MSS.3521-3522 consist of general notes on tropical medicine and on museums of tropical medicine; MS.3523 consists of an interleaved copy of Megaw's The first laws of health, considerably expanded.

1. Fragment of a leaf containing part of a legal tract entitled Judicium Essoniorum relating to the procedure at assizes, dating from the 13th century. The text has variants and is in places abbreviated from that printed in G.E. Woodbine Four thirteenth century law tracts (New Haven, 1910). The text corresponds to the pp 119-20 of Woodbine's edition, where the composition of the work is attributed to Ralf de Hengham and the date of the composition put at 1267-1275.
2. and 3. Two consecutive leaves containing extracts from Part II of Gratian's Decretum, comprising Causa XXVI, quest. VII 16, to Causa XXVII, quest. I 19, on penance and the marriage of those who had sworn chastity. There is a glossary in a different hand and ink, with each section preceded by a symbol corresponding to one in the text. The leaves are possibly Italian and 14th century.
3. Leaf, foliated 109, in a late 14th century hand, containing part of Lib. XLII, 8, 1-10, of the Digestum Novum, relating to restitution to deceived creditors. With a glossary and marginal and interlineal annotations in several 13th-14th century hands. The fragment is probably English.
4. Fragment from the head of a bifolium, containing part of a commentary on Aristotle's De Anima Book III, heavily glossed and annotated in several 13th century hands. The fragment is probably English and early 13th century.

1. Fragment of a leaf containing part of an abridgement of Seneca's De Beneficiis. Contains a complete paragraph beginning 'Iam vero transeamus' and ending 'deinde benficium' (corresponding to Book II, 18-19, p.36, line 26, to p.39, line 12 of the Teubner 1900 edition). The manuscript was written in the mid-12th century, and there are corrections and additional punctuation in a 12th-13th century hand.
2. Fragment of a leaf containing part of St Jerome's Epistola ad Paulum, headed LIII (53), from halfway through paragraph 7 'mundum ad poenitentiam' to the end, and the first few words of the Prologue to the Pentateuch (ending 'Latratibus patens'). The manuscript was probably written in France during the second half of the 13th century.
3. Fragment of a leaf containing Book III, 6 and 7, of the Clementinae, on testaments and burials. With gloss and annotations in a 14th century hand. The manuscript was probably written in Germany in the 14th century, and is also inscribed in a 16th century hand 'Francoise de Pont femme a Monsieur Jehan George Pipon faict avec Madame Monet Perrot sa femme'.
4. Fragment of a leaf containing part of the sanctorale from a Missal of Roman use, from the epistle of the Assumption of the Virgin (15 Aug) to the introit for the feast of St Agapitus (18 Aug), only the mass for St Laurence (17 Aug) being complete. The manuscript was probably written in Italy during the 14th century.

Correspondence and papers of Samuel Jones Loyd and the Loyd Family. The correspondence touches on a wide range of social and political history from the 1830s to the 1880s. There are a few items relating chiefly to the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 and the financial crash of 1797. There is also material on Loyd's religious life; political career; cultural activities; plantations in Ceylon and a detailed description of the island of Mauritius. The family correspondence is particularly illuminating on the life of a nineteenth century upper class family.

Records of the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society, relating not only to the everyday administration of the Society (Acc/2899/01 and Acc/2899/02), but also to social and educational activities. Acc/2899/03 contains a large quantity of information relating to the latter. In the main the records date from the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1970's, although there is a sizeable amount of earlier material, and a small amount for later years

Manuscript volume containing a verse play, a prose history, and several songs concerning the Escalade of Geneva undertaken by Duke Charles Emmanuel of Savoy on the 12 Dec 1602.
The play is entitled 'L'Escalade de Genève, Tragi Comèdie Representée pour la prémière fois' 12 Dec 1603. The history is called 'Histoire De la Miraculeuse Délivrance envoyée de Dieu à la Ville de Genève' 12 Dec 1602. The songs, or 'Chansons de L'Escalade', are in French (Savoyard dialect - 4 songs) and English (1 song entitled 'On the Twelfth of December with wicked intent'. The airs of the songs are often given, e.g. 'Sur l'air de la Vendange'. The index to the first lines of the songs is dated 22 Oct 1765.

Papers relating to the Allied Military Mission to Greek guerrillas (andartes) in German occupied Greece include: military instructions; financial papers; correspondence; Maj Ronald R Prentice's accounts book and account of Lingen's return to Grevena after the war. Papers relating to the political and military liaison mission to Italian partisans in Vittorio Veneto, including the Nino Nannetti Garibaldini Division, led by Col Francesco Pesce 'Milo', (Operation GELA BLUE), 1944-1945 and papers relating to establishing Allied Military Government in North East Italy following German withdrawal, 1945-1946, including correspondence, radio messages, notes, instructions, and papers relating to the Nino Nannetti Garibaldini Division. The collection also includes papers relating to Lingen's military training; Lingen's official and personal documents; photographs, chiefly from Allied Military Mission to Greece and Italy; maps of Palestine, Greece and Italy and testimonials and notes for Lingen's curriculum vitae.
