Biografie
John Baker Holroyd was born in 1735. In 1781 he was created Baron Sheffield of Dunamare, Co. Meath in the Peerage of Ireland and in 1802 created Baron Sheffield of Sheffield, Co. York in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. He was President of the Board of Agriculture, a Lord of Trade and one of His Majesty's most honourable Privy Council. He was known in the literary world as a writer on political economy. He died in 1821.

East Sussex Record Office, Lewes, contains documents, 1770-1863 (Ref: SP), and a rent book, 1854-1868 (Ref: A 5762) relating to the Sheffield Park Estate; correspondence and papers, [1760-1821]; and letters received by Holroyd, 1774-1820 (Ref: AMS 5440). The West Yorkshire Archives Service, Leeds, holds material relating to the Temple Hirst Estate, 1402-20th century (Ref: TM). Doncaster Archives Department has rentals, leases and correspondence relating to the Temple Hirst Estate, 1849-1882 (Ref: DX Box/62020). The National Army Museum holds Holroyd's papers as a troop commander, 1761-1821.
