Sem títuloPapers, 1901-1932, collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising deeds and legal documents relating to 37 (formerly 10) Courtfield Garden, Castle Hill, Ealing; including leases, assignments, mortgages and transfers of mortgages.
Sem títuloRecords of the Tailors Benevolent Institution. Despite a few gaps in the minute books, the most regrettable being the absence of the first minute book, the records give a clear picture of the development of a trade benevolent enterprise. The gaps are in part compensated for by the survival of accounts and cash books from the foundation of the institution and by a diary for 1837 belonging probably to the first secretary. The records are in good condition.
Sem títuloRecords of the Bow Common Estate Company, 1901-1928, including memorandum and articles of association; sales catalogues; sales books; sales completion statements; bundle of papers and correspondence regarding Company's appeal against assessment for Corporation Profits Tax; statement of facts, history of Company and argument for its status as a holding rather than a trading company and therefore not liable for tax; legal advice relating to the tax status of the company and file of papers of Clerk W.W.T. Worth, including draft title deeds to properties, mortgages and rents, and details of sales.
Sem títuloRecords of the Polytechnic Harriers, cross country running and athletics club. The collection comprises records relating to the administration of the club as well as scrapbooks, photographs and publications. These highlight the club's achievements and also reveal the tireless work of individuals that was necessary to run such a successful club and especially annual events such as the "Poly Marathon" and "The Kinniard Trophy". In addition to this they provide an interesting insight into how athletics has developed over the last one hundred years.

Sem títuloRecords of Archbishop Tenison's Grammar School (formerly known as Archbishop Tenison's Secondary School for Boys). Most important are the Trustees' and Governors' meetings minutes 1847-1953 (ref: Acc/2692/17-19). An unusual survival has been a number of evacuation records, which do not exist for many schools in London (ref: Acc/2692/142-148). Illustrations of the school and its life are present in a volume of plans of the school site at Kennington Oval dated 1927 (by A.H.R. Tenison, Architect, ref: Acc/2692/154), and in the large collection of photographs (ref: Acc/2692/155-205). Concerning the sale of the library in 1861 is a Catalogue from Sotheby's which records the prices fetched at auction for individual books (ref: Acc/2692/209). A history of the school, not entirely accurate, was written in 1928 and a transcript survives (ref: Acc/2692/240).
Records include: Schemes and Parliamentary Acts, Deeds, Minutes, Finance, Correspondence, Examiners' reports, Headmasters' reports, Papers and letters relating to School and Library, Building work, Record of boys, school work and functions, Evacuation records, Plans, Photographs, Printed material, Letters and papers relating to Revd C.F. Milner.
Sem títuloRecords of the Business Equipment Trade Association (BETA) and related organisations. The collection includes a complete run of 27 volumes of council minutes, from July 1951 to December 1980. The minutes reflect the association's preoccupation with its role as a public relations body, and with issues affecting its membership, such as VAT or decimalisation. Issues discussed reflect the changing commercial climate, illustrating the increased use of microelectronic technology, although individual products are seldom mentioned unless they are the subject of a dispute. Considerable time is also given over to general internal and administrative matters, and to the continued examination of BETA's aims and activities. Two divisional minute books provide a taste of the activities of the association's sections. Council working papers and correspondence include duplicate minutes of council meetings, reports to council on executive committee meetings, press cuttings, and correspondence relating to association luncheons. A sample of the association's journal is also included.

Sem títuloThe surviving records of the Isleworth Brewery Company Limited consist mainly of an interesting series of account books and ledgers, covering the period 1796-1949, reports and annual balance sheets, 1886-1914, and a number of bundles of title deeds relating to the licensed houses acquired by the firm. One splendid item, worthy of greater comment, is the general ledger, 1796-1810. This volume in its worn vellum laced binding, records the sale of ale, porter, hock and other liquors to innkeepers in Isleworth, Hounslow, Ealing, Heston, Brentford and other places in south west Middlesex and Northern Surrey. In addition to this are recorded direct sales to such eminent persons as the Duke of Northumberland, the Duke of Marlborough, the Earl of Jersey and many members of Regency society living at Twickenham. At the other end of the scale the dairy maids at Osterley regularly purchased large quantities of ale as did anonymous haymakers working in the fields of aristocratic landowners just mentioned! As well as these more formal business transactions the ledger includes accounts of family and household expenses. Of the 20th century accounting records, a wages book, 1914-1949 is of considerable interest. Detailed lists are given of the workers employed by the brewery at Isleworth, including coopers, engineers, maltsters, draymen, stablemen and office cleaners, together with the wages paid to each individual over a long run of years.
The bulk of the records relating to Sich and Company are deeds of title relating to licensed premises in Chiswick, Kew, Hammersmith, Chelsea and Brentford. Unfortunately for this company, unlike the Isleworth Brewery, no accounting records have survived to indicate the extent of its business. On the other hand, a considerable amount of correspondence between the company and its solicitors exists for the period 1830-1880. This deals with such matters as purchasing, leasing and selling of property, and the solving of disputes arising between the company, as landlord, and its tenants. A more personal note is introduced by a small bundle of letters and legal papers concerning the separation of John Sich's daughter from her erring husband in 1850. Only a few title deeds and the wages book mentioned above go beyond the take-over date by Messrs. Watney, Combe, Reid and Company.
The only other coherent group of brewing records held here are those of Fuller, Smith and Turner of Chiswick. The nature of the records of the two companies concerned is such that they in great measure complement one another, enabling a relatively comprehensive picture to be created of the small beginnings of part of what is today an enormous commercial structure.
Sem títuloThis is a collection of forty one letters from Lady Mary Clarke and one letter from her daughter Anne to their legal adviser Samuel Joynes, and four draft letters from Joynes to Lady Clarke.

Sem títuloRecords of John Barton relating to the trust of Thomas Woodrouffe Smith. Apart from property in Essex, Surrey, Norfolk and the City of London, T. W. Smith was the owner and lord of the Manor of Teddington, and the bulk of the material in this deposit relates to that manor, including a series of court rolls. Throughout the Middle Ages the manor was the property of Westminster Abbey, being granted to Henry VIII in exchange for other lands in 1536, who then made it part of the Honour of Hampton Court. In 1603 it was granted to John Hill {1246/019} and its subsequent ownership can be seen from the deeds in this deposit {1246/019-082}. Between 1802 and 1863 John Barton's trustees sold the manor and demesne lands off in parcels, which heralded the beginning of Teddington's urbanisation. This and a previous deposit of manor court books {see ACC/0363} came from the solicitors who had acted for the trustees in the 1860's.
Sem títuloThis deposit is a solicitors' collection of papers relating to the Shadwell family, who held estates in Greenford and Northolt, and also land in Essex. Sem títuloMany of the deeds relate to these purchases of the main estate. Others relate to additional purchases, each with their supporting title deeds of earlier date referring to previous owners. There is a series of numbers pencilled on the majority of these later deeds, and this order has been strictly maintained in this list. The following groups of deeds were tied in bundles: D1/16-29, D1/34-50, D1/52-55, D1/56-65. There are admissions and surrenders relating to property in the manor of Battersea and Wandsworth.
