The Architectural Association Archives comprise of the administrative and educational records of the Architectural Association Inc. (1847-), encompassing material related to the AA's governance, legal and financial operations, property holdings and educational activities. To date, less than one quarter of all the AA's archival records have been formally catalogued, with the focus of phase one of the cataloguing having been upon basic administrative records, including Council and committee minute books and agendas, constitutional records, Registers of Directors, property leases and vital company documents. Phase two of the cataloguing process is ongoing and is focused upon the educational records of the AA school, its staff and its students.

The collection includes correspondence, deeds and miscellaneous records of Battersea Bridge, along with a number of records from other London bridges. There is also a small amount of material concerned with railways, canals, turnpikes and so on.

Please note that the original order of these items had been considerably disturbed, and whilst efforts have been made to ensure that all items included in the catalogue are still present it has not been possible to do so definitively. Some items may not have been filed with their correct reference number, and additional items may be included but are not on the catalogue.

Papers of Harry Alfred Rée, comprising a small amount of very general correspondence, most dating from 1969-1974; letters to the press, 1964-1976; lectures, including to students at the University of York and to teachers' associations; addresses and scripts of broadcasts, 1950s-1970s; articles, reviews and other writings, 1940s-1970s. The collection also includes a substantial amount of material relating to Henry Morris and his contemporaries. Some of this is original material, 1920s-1960s, such as correspondence with Morris; writings, broadcasts and speeches by Morris; press cuttings and other biographical material; printed materials relating to the village colleges; photographs; audio- and video-tapes. The remainder comprises material generated by Rée as a result of his research on Morris, 1969-1980s, including correspondence with friends and colleagues of Morris and drafts of chapters for an edited volume of Morris's writings.

Papers relating to Lord Merlyn-Rees' political career, 1949-2002, concerning his role as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. Among the papers are: transcripts of Merlyn Rees' taped diary, 1972-1976. These are a very useful insight into Rees' contemporary views on politics and events in Northern Ireland. Included are accounts of: the Ulster Workers' Strike; the collapse of the power sharing executive; the Constitutional Convention; meetings with politicians; parliamentary proceedings; and, security matters such as internment and special category status for paramilitary prisoners. Report entitled The Resistance and 'Save the Children' in Brussels describing the work of Maurice Heiber, notably his setting up of an organisation to save Jewish children. Accounts ledger from the Reverend Stephen Freeman's School, Ponders End. The ledger covers the period 1806 to 1848. It is not titled and contains records and accounts of tuition fees, boarding fees, costs of clothes and shoes, charges for dancing lessons, payments of medicines and payment of pocket monies for each individual pupil. The volume also gives details of name and address of the parents. There are a number of loose pages of traders' invoices and letters and notes dating back to 1799.
