Papers of George Redmond Hulbert, comprising his correspondence, 1807 to 1823, with the Navy Pay Office, Navy Prize Office, Treasury, Greenwich Hospital, Doctors' Commons and naval officers. There are also accounts and lists of prizes, including some printed papers, 1793 to 1798. The collection provides detailed information on the procedure followed in the collection and distribution of prize money.

Two volumes of manuscript notes bound together, containing lectures on the principles and practice of surgery by Astley Paston Cooper, and Benjamin Travers's lectures on diseases of the eye, taken by Hulbert as a pupil, 1807.

The collection contains photographs used to illustrate newspaper stories for the Hull Daily News about events in London. The photographs cover a range of subjects and have been organised thematically into 25 series, including: life in London during the Second World War and post-war reconstruction; transportation in London (including railways, roads, rivers and airports); churches; memorials and monuments; bridges; hotels; office buildings; foreign embassies; museums and art galleries; hospitals; sporting venues; markets; government buildings and theatres. There are also photographs showing particularly famous streets in London, photographs of palaces and royal residences in London, of the Tower of London, of Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column and photographs of the Palace of Westminster (including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Hall).

The archive consists of birth and marriage certificates (1876-1880); film, theatre and publishers' contracts for EM Hull's works (1919-1956); one photograph thought to be EM Hull in her wedding dress (one of the only known photographs of the author) (c.1900); one copy of Sir Walter Scott's Poetical Works (1865) that belonged to EM Hull's father James Henderson; an article by Cecil Hull 'Six Weeks in Southern Algeria' (1930); Edith Maud Hull's suitcase; the following eight books by Edith Maud Hull inscribed to her daughter Cecil Winstanley Hull:

These papers are largely concerned with Humphreys' involvement in the development and promotion of Latin American Studies in Britain. The collection is roughly divided into three series. The 'correspondence' section includes letters from a variety of people, including British historians such as Hugh Hale Bellot and historians of Latin America and the USA (1934 to 1982). Amongst the papers of committees and conferences promoting Latin American Studies in Great Britain in the second section are: papers of the University College London Advisory Committee and the University Grants Committee on Latin American Studies; correspondence relating to committees; interview papers and reports. The third section contains items created by Professor Humphreys including unpublished papers, and printed newspaper articles.

Recipe and account book with ownership inscription of Thomas Brigstocke Humphreys, Portmadoc, 1859. The book has later been used to accommodate newspaper cuttings (including several relating to members of the Humphreys and Brigstocke families, among them H. Humphreys of Aberystwyth, also a chemist, and various Humphreys in Llanelli) and ephemera. The latter relate to a wide variety of chemists' firms, chiefly in London; these include Corbyn and Co. (see MSS. 5435-5460).

The writer, Rosa Louise Hunt, describes her service with the Voluntary Aid Detachment from 25 Nov 1915 until 5 Mar 1916, in Malta, beginning with the news that she was being posted to a military hospital abroad, but breaking off abruptly while she was still in Malta.

The collection comprises one manuscript volume of notes on lectures delivered by John Hunter, Surgeon Extraordinary to King George III, at the operating theatre in Great Windmill Street, London, summarised under the general heading 'The true principles of surgery'. The subject of the lectures include comparison of plant and animal life, such as sensation and movement; treatment of inflamed organs; the effects of poisons; bone fractures; and the identification and cure of various diseases including those of the urinary tract and reproductive organs, 1777.

Notes of lectures on anatomy and surgery by William Hunter and William Cruikshank, taken by a student. The notes cover a course of 79 lectures given at Hunter's Great Windmill Street School, London, at some time after he had been joined by Cruikshank as assistant in 1771 (cf. MS. 5595). The latter's contribution to the course seems from these notes to have been considerable, suggesting that he was already well-established as co-lecturer. The student was probably John Power (fl. 1791-98), later a surgeon at Market Bosworth, Leics.

Manuscript notes taken from six lectures given by William Hunter entitled 'A course of lectures on the gravid uterus taken down in short hand, as delivered by Dr Hunter in 1772'. This volume was created by the student, 25 Mar-16 Apr 1776, using his original shorthand notes.
