The papers comprise inspection notes from school visits; notes for her preliminary and supplementary reports; copies of Board of Education Circulars; photocopies of the Women Inspectors' Reports; correspondence with her superiors and officials at the Board of Education; private correspondence, including with Sir John Gorst; correspondence with the National Union of Women Teachers (NUWT) and National Union of Teachers (NUT); published and unpublished articles; education pamphlets; and newspaper clippings of articles and editorials related to her dispute with the Board of Education and on general educational topics.

The Archive also holds Louis C Bernacchi's private diary on board the DISCOVERY, 14 Feb 1904-5 Nov 1904, and George Murray's journal on board the DISCOVERY from Cowes, 6 Aug 1901 to within sight of Cape Town, where he left the expedition. Papers generated by the Royal Geographical Society related to the expedition are also filed with this collection.

Papers of Charles Moore Watson, 1871-1920, comprising a field notebook, lists of instruments and observations, upper Nile, 1874.

Collection of private journals, notebooks, letters articles and addresses of Sir Clement Markham relating to his life in the Royal Navy and to the period when he was closely involved with the work of the Royal Geographical Society as Honorary Secretary and later as President. The private journals cover various dates from 1844-1880 and from then form a continuous series to 1908. There are also private diaries of his father and of his wife. The notebooks include 8 volumes referring to the history of his, and his wife's, family; notes on biblical studies, South America, Portugal, Madeira, Spain, India and Ceylon. The manuscripts of articles and addresses given by Markham cover a wide range of subjects. The collection totals approximately 100 items.
