Small group of papers reflecting the career of Ethel Martha Hatchard (née Smith), a woman teacher who combined teaching with family commitments, c1906-1950s. The papers comprise personalia relating to her education and career, including school reports, correspondence relating to courses attended, letters of appointment, documents relating to pension arrangements, examination papers, and a manuscript career outline. Also included are a notebook from North London Collegiate School for Girls, containing notes from needlework lessons, 1907, and examples of teaching materials for reading and arithmetic, c1950s.

The collection mainly consists of a set of Isabel Fry's personal diaries and notebooks dating from 1878-1958. These are supplemented by letters to her friend Eugénie Dubois, c1930-1958, and a few publications and photographs. The diaries reflect all aspects of her life and career including her teaching activities and educational ideas; her preoccupations with political and social affairs, including political reform and emancipation in the East and in Turkey and Persia; her friendships with liberal intellectuals; and her involvement with anti-militarist movements, slum clearance, socialism and feminism. Papers relating to the work of Amelia Fysh (nee Bullen), mainly at Beech Green Nursery School, Aylesbury, Bucks. Much of the material relates to her work on the relation of children's drawings to their development and includes originals and photocopies of the children's drawings, photographs of the children playing and working at the nursery school, and Amelia's research notes, papers and correspondence regarding her efforts to get the work published. The collection includes a copy of her publication 'Discovering Development with the 3-5s: a longitudinal study, 1964-1973', published c1997.

There are a number of personal files relating to Amelia's own education, her career in education provision, and her research into child development in other countries. These latter papers appear to have been created on an ad hoc basis during her travels abroad. There are also a number of publications regarding child development, pre-school education and education for children with learning and physical disabilities.

The Dave O'Reilly Experiential Learning Archive is a collection of materials relating to the history and development of experiential learning in the international community. Its contents include papers given by Ed Rosen, [1970]-1996, including material relating to the International Conferences on Experiential Learning (ICEL), 1987-1996, including texts of papers, abstracts, programmes and publicity material; papers relating to the organisation of the first ICEL, held in London in 1987, which Rosen was involved in organising, inlcuding minutes of the Steering Group and correspondence with participants; collected books, pamphlets and other printed material related to experiential learning.

Papers of Frederick James Gould, 1914-1937, mainly comprising pamphlets written by Gould, and also newscuttings and correspondence.

Papers of Harry Alfred Rée, comprising a small amount of very general correspondence, most dating from 1969-1974; letters to the press, 1964-1976; lectures, including to students at the University of York and to teachers' associations; addresses and scripts of broadcasts, 1950s-1970s; articles, reviews and other writings, 1940s-1970s. The collection also includes a substantial amount of material relating to Henry Morris and his contemporaries. Some of this is original material, 1920s-1960s, such as correspondence with Morris; writings, broadcasts and speeches by Morris; press cuttings and other biographical material; printed materials relating to the village colleges; photographs; audio- and video-tapes. The remainder comprises material generated by Rée as a result of his research on Morris, 1969-1980s, including correspondence with friends and colleagues of Morris and drafts of chapters for an edited volume of Morris's writings.

Records of the Careers Advisory Bureau (CAB), the Public Schools Employment Bureau (PSAB), and the Independent Schools Careers Organisation (ISCO), 1933-2003, including publications (1933-2003), minutes (1933-1980), annual reports (1981-1992), reports of meetings (1936-1939), legal matters (1947-1950), subscriptions and donations (1949-1955), memorandum and associated articles (1942-1973), funding appeals (1949-1951), a salaries book (1970-1972), programmes and index cards.

Papers of the Board of Education Inspectors' Association (later the Association of Her Majesty's Inspectors of Schools), 1871-1992, including annual reports, minutes and papers of the Executive Committee and Divisional Committees, reports and memoranda, 1920-1992; lists of Divisions, Districts and staff, issued by the Education Department, 1871-1946; collected personal papers of individual HMIs; material gathered for a post-war history of the Inspectorate.

The collection comprises information pertaining to the formation and activities of the London Association for the Teaching of English (L.A.T.E), specifically Annual General Meetings, Annual quarterly meetings, Conferences (where educational matters were discussed), Study Groups reports as well as transcripts, scripts and papers relating to the work of students. Some of the collection contains correspondence with other agencies, as well as the correspondence between members of the Association, in particular Miss Nancy Martin with other persons. There are some newspaper clippings.
