Records of the County Treasurer for the Middlesex Quarter Sessions, 1737-1900. No proper county accounts have survived for Middlesex before 1739, although the series MF which includes them up to 1900 does have record of transactions back to 1737; MF/L are accounts of the reclamation of subsistence paid to families of men serving in the Middlesex militia from outside the county (1779 - 1861); MF/T are records of annuities (or tontines) sold to raise a loan to build a new house of correction (1790-1888); MF/V are accounts concerned with the removal and subsistence of vagrants (1740-1864); MF/A covers the maintenance of lunatics and asylums (1828-1889); and MF/X are watch repairs accounts (1838).

Records of the Metropolitan Committee for War Savings, comprising a minute book of the Committee, 1917-1918. The book had first been used (reversed) to record details of the war savings situation (local committee, local activities, facilities available, etc.) in 60 districts, one by one, in alphabetical order, in the metropolitan area, some as far afield as Barking and Kingston. The last seven entries, at the end of the alphabet, are covered by the later minutes of the executive committee (pasted in), running across them from the other end of the book.

The meetings recorded in the minutes were held at the Mansion House and the Lord Mayor was normally in the chair. Attendance at the first two meetings was large and included a number of mayors and a sprinkling of senior council officers. Attendance at the executive committee meetings was usually nine or ten. It appears that this is the only main minute book of this body. It does not, however, contain the minutes of its various sub-committees and ancillary committees.

Letter from John Thornton Leslie-Melville of Old Broad Street, [London] to J D Powles, 10 Dec 1824. Stating that he does not wish to injure the market, but at the same time wishes Powles to sell 100 more of his (Melville's) Colombian mine shares at the first favorable opportunity, as his broker says that 50 shares had been sold that morning at £19 10s.

Ten original letterbooks, 1862-1889, of David McLean, containing copies of his family and official business correspondence during his career with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank. They provide an insight into the work and dealings of a British banker involved in trading with the Far East. The business correspondence is concerned with the condition of stocks and shares of various companies. The family letters are about personal financial matters.

Documents relate to property, financial dealings, marriages, bequests, bills and share dealing.

Records of the London Shipping Exchange, including financial accounts such as cash books, ledgers, and registers of shares; letter books; members' registers; and papers concerning the liquidation of the Exchange.

Records of the London Regional Savings Committee. Minute books form the major part of the collection, minutes of the LRSC dating from 1965-1977. Also present are minutes of the various sub-committees that were set up, the earliest dating from 1946. Also papers relating to the London Regional Schools Advisory Committee and photographs of various savings campaigns.

The collection comprises London International Financial Futures Exchange publications.

Account book of the clerk of the Coal Exchange. The book includes receipts include money for shares, with names of subscribers; market dues paid by non-proprietors; interest on capital; rents of parts of the premises; and rents of offices in the Exchange, with names of tenants.

Payments include the purchase of the site; building and maintenance work; wages and salaries; cleaning, lighting, watching, and winding the clock; rates, taxes and insurance; half-yearly dinners; newspapers; dividends, with recipients' names.

From 1781 there are receipts and payments towards a 'New Room', funded by subscription.

Bromley, solicitor of 1 South Square, Gray's Inn, 1832-1836, relating to claims and counterclaims to compensation for the negroes on the estate of Adam Smith of Bossue, Manchester, Jamaica, whose will was proved on 4 Sep 1815. A printed form, dated 1836, of the Commissioners of Compensation, gives details of the settlement: William Shand, acting trustee under will of Adam Smith, claimant to compensation for 39 slaves, admitted counterclaim of William and Thomas Smith, executors and devisees in trust under will of Adam Smith (N.B. Copies of a number of letters to and from a William Shand in Jamaica are among the papers of Drew's Tontine.)

Letter from Charles Headach of Basingstoke, Hampshire to Messrs Hodding, Hodding and Co, Salisbury, 19 Oct 1840. Giving their agent permission to receive the interest due on the late Bishop of Salisbury's bonds of the Basingstoke Canal Company; giving details of the bonds and the method of authorizing payment; also mentioning a bond of Mr Hodding's. [Thomas Burgess, Bishop of Salisbury, died in 1837.]
