The London and Lancashire Insurance Company Limited records comprise constitutional documents, minutes, annual reports and accounts, seal books, policy registers and other administrative papers.

They may be freely consulted with the exception of a few items less than 30 years old which may only be seen with the permission of the depositor, from whom permission must also be sought to publish any material.

The Provident Life Office collection comprises constitutional records, minutes, annual reports and other administrative items, as well as the life policy registers for 1806-1906.

Access to the archives is subject to a 45 year rule, with a 70 year rule for records containing personally sensitive information. In addition, all records are held off-site, and require at least 24 hours notice for access.

Papers of Wallace Brothers and Company Limited, East India Merchants, bankers and London agents, later known as Wallace Brothers and Company (Holdings) Limited. Most of the records emanate from the core business of the Wallace Brothers partnership and its successors; but some emanate from the business of associated or subsidiary companies which were based in London. The latter include the records of Wyer and Hawke, London agents of Bombay Company Limited, who operated from the London office of Wallace Brothers between 1912 and 1968.

The archive does not hold the papers of Wallace Brothers' associated or subsidiary companies based overseas. No lists of the papers of these companies are held, and their whereabouts and accessibility are unknown. However the archives transferred to Guildhall from Wallace Brothers' London office include a considerable amount of information about the activities of many of these companies, including numerous copy and original documents sent to London by the companies concerned.

Besides papers created or received in the course of business, the Wallace Brothers archives include some memoirs of partners, directors or members of staff, and notes of research into the history of Wallace Brothers and its associates and subsidiaries.

The business papers date from 1862 to 1989, and relate to all aspects of Wallace Brothers' operations, although few banking records are held, and only formal business records survive from the period ca. 1966-1989.

Access is subject to a 45-year closure period (70 years in the case of personnel records). Annual reports and other published documents are not subject to closure.

Staff records include minutes of Employees Representative Committee meetings. Premises records include early title deeds for brewery premises as well as for individual public houses and mortgage records. The miscellaneous series comprises an album of advertising cuttings.

Each company collection contains corporate records which can include minutes of meetings, memoranda and articles of association, registers of directors and members and corporate agreements. Meux's Brewery Company Limited has a large collection of premises records including early title deeds, mortgage agreements and schedules of properties. There are numerous items of interest including legal papers relating to a court case between Meux's Brewery and the Marquis of Aylesbury circa 1902 (LMA/4435/A/01/011) and a complete set of end of year accounts 1931-1984 for Claude-General Neon Lights (LMA/4435/F/009).

This collection contains records from several business types, breweries, gin distillers (J and W Nicholson and Company Limited), neon light manufacturers and sign makers illustrating the wide variety of functions carried out by Allied Breweries and it's companies.

Records of John Lovibond and Sons Limited, 1896-1973. This collection comprises corporate records including minutes of Directors' meetings and General meetings, registers of shareholders, articles of association and a register of mortgages and charges.

This collection contains outgoing correspondence, diaries, reports, and speeches made by Sir Peter Newsam as the Education Officer of the ILEA. The material makes special reference to the development of policies in the ILEA aimed at improving education provision for ethnic minorities, reponses to the Brixton riots, and the effects of falling school rolls and secondary school reorganisations in inner London.

The records also include policy files kept by Sir Ashley Bramall, Leader of the ILEA, on teachers' pay and the William Tyndale School Inquiry.

Records of the Aged Poor Society. The records cover an incomplete collection of minute books and annual reports for the Society and Saint Joseph's Alms House, Hammersmith. According to the Society's 'Historic Records' report (1957), no records prior to 1820 have survived.

Despite the gaps in the records, the minutes and reports provide detailed information on the establishment of the almshouses, the use of funds from will bequests, the admission and discharge of aged poor beneficiaries, and the membership and patronage of the Society.
