A scrapbook contains two letters from Maurice to Miss Duncan, one dated 1868 and thanking her for a gift; printed obituaries of Maurice, including news cuttings; portraits of Maurice, including a photograph; a printed catalogue of his works; a printed leaflet on the Working Men's College, London, 1872; manuscript notes (not Maurice's) on sermons preached by him; a printed sermon on Maurice by Charles Kingsley, 1873, for an industrial school for girls in Charlotte Street, Portland Place, London (established by Maurice in 1867); manuscript extracts of letters from T[homas] Hughes (the author?) to Maurice. Other printed material comprises articles and sermons on Maurice's death in 1872, and items relating to a dinner held at Lincoln's Inn, 1972, for its centenary. A manuscript letter from Emily Hill to Mrs Shaen, 1872, describes Maurice's death and a manuscript letter from Charles Kingsley to Maurice's widow, 1872, thanks her for a Greek testament. Other memorabilia relate to Maurice, his family, and friends.

The records of the Pestalozzi Village Trust, 1948-1989, comprise typescript notes compiled by Millicent Coleman, who served on its governing Council. These consist mainly of Council minutes and supporting material, 1948-1989; Committee minutes including Finance and Management Committees, 1953-1985; Annual Reports and Accounts, 1961-1974; policy reports on the development and strategic direction of the Village, 1959-1973; correspondence with Millicent Coleman regarding Trust business and liaison with the National Children's Home, 1953-1985.

Papers of Reginald Hale-White chiefly relating to the Fellowship for Freedom in Medicine, including correspondence; address at the Tunbridge Wells meeting of the Fellowship for Freedom in Medicine, Apr 1953; typescript drafts of reports; press-releases and printed Bulletins of the Fellowship for Freedom in Medicine, 1948-1972 (some were added to the collection by Hale-White's widow after his death). Also comprises material about his other medical interests including correspondence and other papers about the Government proposal to ban the manufacture and import of heroin in the United Kingdom, and about Hale-White's participation in opposing the ban, 1955-1956; copies of letters from Hale-White to the Daily Telegraph and the British Medical Journal, 1958-1967 and typescripts of speeches and lectures given by Hale-White, some annotated by him in manuscript.

Correspondence relating to the Royal College of Physicians Fellows' and members' business and partnership interests, 1911-1949.

The papers relate exclusively to Bryce's service for the Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons. The material is principally correspondence but includes minutes, agendas and circulars and a sequence of printed membership booklets, 1934-1958. There are papers relating to the foundation of the Society in 1933, including the replies to the original invitations to join the Society (sent out by Bryce), to relations between the Society and the American Association of Thoracic Surgeons, and to overseas visits of the Society to Switzerland in 1934 and to Berlin and Bruges in 1937. Later material reflects the adjustments necessitated by the Second World War and the establishment of the National Health Service.

Papers relating to naval medical history, 1932, comprising a volume titled Grievances of Naval Surgeons containing precis of letters published in The Lancet from 1827-1902, compiled by 'Surgeon Captain, Royal Naval Hospital, Haslar, September 1932'; 2 letters from Christopher Lloyd of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, to Miss Jessie Dobson, concerning a historical enquiry (24 Oct 1960), and a visit to look at 'your Lancet volume'; and a volume containing issues which appeared in The Lancet in the 19th century, for instance, the exclusion of naval medical officers from the King's Levees, a new mode of punishment in the Navy, hospital ships, and the Gilbert Blane Medal.

Papers of the London Society of Thoracic Surgeons, 1952-1992, comprising a volume of minutes of Society, otherwise known as Charlie's Club, 1952-1981; a photocopy from the British Journal of Surgery, volume 38, 1950, containing the first acknowledged 'Charlie', a published record of a mistake made by the surgeon Mr John Rashleigh Belcher (FRCS) during a lobectomy operation; and menus and photographs from the annual dinners, including signatures of those in attendance.

Papers of the West London Medico-Chirurgical Society, 1886-1908, comprising a volume titled Minute Book Volume 1 containing minutes, 1886-1908; and a volume titled Minute Book Volume 3 containing minutes, 1889.

The Loudoun Medical Papers, relating to John Campbell, 1762-1763, comprising 3 large volumes of correspondence and other manuscripts relating to the medical hospital during the British expedition to Portugal in 1762-1763 where Lieutenant-General John Campbell was second in command of the English Army; letters from John Hunter; and a written catalogue of the letters compiled by George Ernest Gask (FRCS) in 1935-1936.

Royal Society account books, 1660-2004, falling into two chronological groups; the first series contains the early accounts for the Royal Society, 1660-1768. Much of this material deals with the financial state of the Society during the term of office of James West, and represents the administrative work of the two Library Keepers/Clerks, Francis Hauksbee and Emanuel Mendes da Costa. The second group consists of cash-books and ledgers of the 19th and 20th centuries, 1867-1976. These deal with the Society's general finances, as well as its administration of the Government Grant and various Trust Funds. A third section contains copies of the Royal Society's Annual Accounts - both signed and unsigned.

A small collection of papers of Sir Arthur George Tansley, mainly related to the formation of organisations, in the period 1918-1921, that aimed to promote pure and applied scientific research. The bulk of the collection consists of papers relating to Tansley's involvement in the Scientific Research Association. The Scientific Research Association's papers include rules, promotional leaflets and circulars, financial material and a relatively large amount of correspondence. A smaller amount of material survives for the National Union of Scientific Workers including rule booklets, membership lists, reports from meetings, agenda and promotional leaflets and circulars. Only a few items are preserved in this collection for the Federation of Technical and Scientific Associations and the Cambridge Research Group. The published articles and reports at AT/5 mainly concern issues related to the funding, support and the general state of scientific research. As a whole the collection reveals many problems faced by those who wished to organise research work after the first world war, such as the problem of rival organisations created to promote research whose aims overlapped, and disagreements over how and whether research could be organised. For example a letter from the Royal Society to the Scientific Research Association commented that 'lines of development' were 'discovered not by councils or committees but by the instinct of individuals, and the less this is trammelled by organization the better' (AT/2/6/1/42). The article 'Research and Organisation' at AT/2/3/15 was written in an attempt to answer such criticisms by arguing that research could be organised. Other issues also surface in the correspondence of the Scientific Research Association. For example one letter opposed support for any scheme founded on government funding as 'government endowment will, in the long run, corrupt Science...' (AT/2/6/2/17). There were also disagreements as to whether emphasis should be laid upon 'the promotion of scientific research' or 'the economic interest' of research workers which seems to have contributed to a division between the National Union of Scientific Workers and the Scientific Research Association (AT/2/4/3).

The correspondence, papers and diaries of Sir Charles Blagden. Blagden's papers are interesting on several levels, generally for his close contact with European men of learning, and his relationship with Sir Joseph Banks. Blagden's professional researches are represented by medical notes in the boxed sequence. These are grouped with papers on other subject interests, including linguistics, e.g. a draft Tahitian-English dictionary, compiled from conversations with Omai, whom Blagden inoculated after Omai's voyage to England with James Cook. Blagden's interest in antiquities and travel is documented by diary entries, as is his intercourse with fellow scientists, particularly those associated with the founding of the Royal Institution.

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists reports running annually from 1930 to the present; numbers 1-3, 6-10, 17-19, 21 are missing, but one memorandum has survived from No.3. For each year, the Report lists the Honorary Fellows and Officers and reports on the following: honorary appointments and adminstration; the structure of the College; Council Membership; New Fellows and Members; the annual general meeting; awards; overseas activities; obituaries; gifts; RCOG publications; financial activites. It also includes reports of Council and from the standing committees, representative committees, reference committees and other committees of note, and a full financial report from the College Treasurer.

Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists' minute books, 1929-1987, containing the minutes of various committees and working parties of the College, as well as joint committees and working parties of the College with outside bodies. Each volume contains the minutes, frequently signed by the chairman, of two or more committees of roughly the same period.
