Records of the Royal Choral Society. The archive is divided into seven sections: administrative records, including a series of individual concert files; financial records; membership records, which include attendance registers and audition files; concert records and programmes; publicity records including posters and newspaper cuttings; files of printed musical scores, arranged by piece, and including programmes for concerts featuring the work; miscellaneous records, which comprise information and programmes relating to other choirs, magazines of the society, or which include articles on the society or choral singing in general, and photographs of choir members, soloists and conductors.

Highlights of the collection include a comprehensive, although not complete, series of concert programmes from 1873-1985, including the programme for the last concert to be held in the Queen's Hall before its destruction during World War II. There are also manuscript copies of "Eryri" by Alun Hoddinott. This piece was composed for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969 and the collection has a copy both of the original score, for 16 soloists, chorus and orchestra, and the revised version for baritone solo, chorus and orchestra.

Papers of Doctor Norah Schuster, [1930]-1983, comprising copies of her published articles on the Royal Chest Hospital, its founder Doctor Isaac Buxton and the Western General Dispensary at Saint Marylebone; drafts and notes for her publications, including notes for an unpublished history of the Royal Chest Hospital; research papers relating to Doctor Isaac Buxton, and illustrations for the life of Doctor Isaac Buxton and the history of the Western General Dispensary.

Records of the Royal Caledonian Education Trust from its inception, including records of the Royal Caledonian Asylum and School LMA/4710/D, the Gaelic Chapel LMA/4710/E, the Society of Old Caledonians LMA/4710/F, including copies of the groups magazines. The records comprise: Civilian Committee minute book, 1941-7 (Ms 14387); attendance book, 1941-7 (Ms 14388); welfare papers, 1941-55 (Ms 14389); and scrapbook, 1941-6 (Ms 14390). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1972.

The Roy Waters Theatre Collection is a privately created collection of theatrical material amassed as a result of forty years of collecting by Roy Waters. The collection primarily comprises of theatrical ephemera, though it also includes the personal papers of Roy Waters, documenting both his career as teacher and later as a school inspector, and his collecting habits and cultural interests.

The nature of the material is diverse, with the printed ephemera including a sizeable collection of programmes from the 19th to the 21st century, collectable items such as cigarette cards, press cuttings collected for their relevance to named individuals and events and photographs reflecting a range of formats including postcards, cartes de visite and cabinet photographs. Toy theatre and juvenile drama are well represented with loose character and scene sheets, tinsel prints and twentieth century stage and script packs forming part of the collection. In addition, the prints series, although primarily consisting of portrait and scene prints of theatrical individuals, also includes a range of topographic and general entertainment prints. Artefacts and commemorative ornaments comprise a series, as do sound recordings relating to the specialisms of the collection in particular productions and well known individuals.

The theatrical ephemera, although initially collected with a broad interest in the theatre in mind, does reflect the specific areas of interest which developed as the collection grew; discreet collections of material relate to specific individuals or events, for instance Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde.

The collection also contains hundreds of individual autograph letters dating from the 18th to the 20th century representing the variety of professions involved in the performing arts, including letters from George Arliss, Sir James Barrie, Phineas Taylor Barnum, Charles Dickens and a sick note for J.S.Grimaldi [Joseph Samuel Grimaldi]. In addition, there are a small number of original art works relating to the theatre.

Abbreviated transcript of Roxburgh's 'Flora Indica', a dictionary of Indian plants and shrubs. Arranged in 23 classes: Monandria to Polygamia. With index by a later hand. Volume 1 of 'Flora Indica' as published at Serampore in 1820. It was edited by William Carey (1761-1834) and contained entries of additional plants by Nathaniel Wallich (1786-1854). There was a second edition of this Volume 1 in 1824 with more of Wallich's notes, but no further volumes were published until 1832. At that date Carey published the complete work in 3 volumes, but omitting the Wallich notes. This manuscript seems to be a shortened version of the work, with some of Wallich's notes, distinguished by the addition of the letter W. But the descriptions are here somewhat differently set out, and the native names of plants are omitted.

Our Att[orney] Gen[eral] has consented to present it. H.R. has procured the constitution of some of the parishes of London, and would feel himself much obliged to Sir John Sinclair if he could conveniently inform him, how those local taxes are levied in Edinburgh ...' .

Thanking him for a testimonial sent to accompany Routh's [unsuccessful] application for the professorship of mathematics at the [Royal Military] Academy, Woolwich. [The post was given to Matthew O'Brien, previously astronomy lecturer at Woolwich.]

Papers of the Roupell family relating to property in Charlton and Woolwich, including rentals, accounts and plans. Documents relating to a distillery in Paddington and to appointment as a gaoler at Newgate appear to be unconnected to the family. It is possible that they are linked with the legal practice of Robert G. Roupell, Q.C., or G. B. Roupell.

Manuscript journals, Aug 1946-Sep 1948, of Philip Rounds, including the period while he worked for the teak merchants McGregor & Co in Toungoo, Burma (Myanmar), containing detailed daily entries including religious reflections, his preparations and journey to Burma, work and life there, and trip home via Africa, also including notes of letters sent and finances. Also includes miscellaneous inserted ephemera, some undated, including invitations, advertisements for hotels, and press cuttings.

Four letters, 1913-1920, to George Charles Williamson, author of Lady Anne Clifford, Countess of Dorset, Pembroke and Montgomery, 1590-1676: her life, letters and work (T Wilson & Son, Kendal, 1922), mainly concerning Round's opinion on the relevance of a volume containing an Elizabethan peerage to the Clifford peerage claim.

The collection, 1853-1924, contains letters to John Horace Round from various correspondents, working papers and reviews by Round. The material concerns various historical subjects.
