In the mid 19th century, the Corporation of Trinity House replaced minutes of committees with "agendas". These "agendas" are not agenda papers with a list of items for discussion. They are stripped down minutes which record those elder brethren attending the committee meeting, items coming to committee, the decisions taken and further action, if any, required. They do not record any of the committee's discussions.

The papers have suffered from fire in 1666 and 1714 and from bombing in 1940. Though the court minutes survive from 1660, many other series of records only survive from the nineteenth century. Because of the many ways in which the Corporation of Trinity House has touched on British maritime life, the records which survive are still very rich and extremely varied.

There is a thirty year closure rule on the Trinity House archive and researchers must ask the Corporation for permission to consult any records less than thirty years old.

Lighthouse plans have not been deposited, although LMA holds copy catalogues of the plans which are still held by the Corporation of Trinity House (CLC/526/MS30131A, available on the library shelves in the LMA Information Area). Records of the Inns of Court and City Yeomanry including orders, attestations books, circulars, minutes, muster rolls, correspondence and other papers. Where an item or series continues for some years, it may well bear more than one of the Regiment's titles. Some miscellaneous papers relating to the Regiment's history as a whole are placed near the end of the second sequence (Mss 17799-804). A few incidental items relating to earlier volunteer regiments are placed at the beginning of the first and second sequences. Notes relating to the early origins and history of the Regiment can be found in Ms 17804.

Records of the 49th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, later the 24th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, comprising: regimental orders, 1870-1871 (Ms 09408), and muster roll books, 1870-1909 (Ms 09409).

The records comprise: account book, 1871-9 (Ms 09410A), and general fund ledger, 1883-5, and signed enrolments, 1885-8 (Ms 09410B). It is not known whether any other records survive of this Militia.

Records of the Royal Air Force Training Corps, Squadron No 1282 (City of London). The records comprise: Civilian Committee minute book, 1941-7 (Ms 14387); attendance book, 1941-7 (Ms 14388); welfare papers, 1941-55 (Ms 14389); and scrapbook, 1941-6 (Ms 14390). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1972.

(g) General Aircraft Ltd., (Feltham), a sub-unit of "D" Company, 1st Middlesex Home Guard. (Later became 9th MX. (HG) Bn.)

(b) Profession, and/or place of employment. (c) National Registration Identity Number. (d) Details of previous service in the forces, (Rank, Branch etc.) (e) Next of Kin. (f) Whether owner of a Car/Cycle, or any motor vehicle. (g) Telephone Number (Home or business). (h) Age, (or date of birth). (i) Promotion in Home Guard. (j) Transfers (Regular Forces; Inter-unit; etc.) (k) Discharges (through death, or other causes). (l) Religion. (m) Resignations, (pressure of work, etc.) Other information includes, results of proficiency tests reports upon non-commissioned officers; strength states; returns of small arms; personal history sheets; lists of category, men, etc.

Collection of letters, including:

• Letter from John Meryett at Hampton to Mr Ware, Scotland Yard, Westminster, 1746, regarding the King's River.

• Letter from the Marquess of Tichfield [Lord Lieutenant of Middlesex] to the Rt. Hon. William Windham [Secretary at War], 1796, concerning the identity of Whitfield Harvey, an ensign in the Westminster Regiment. Col Cawthorne suspects that the present holder of the commission is an imposter.

• Sworn statement by Thomas Meyer, made before R Ford at Bow Street, 1802, stating that from the examination of John Devlin, in custody at Liverpool, and the description of a hat in his possession, he believes the hat to be that worn by John Cole Steele when he was murdered, and that John Devlin is connected with the crime.

• Letter from W Budd to the magistrates of the Police Office, Bow Street, enclosing handbills [missing] giving a description of a former dragoon suspected of the murder of Mr George Sergeant.

• Letter from the Duke of Portland [Lord Lieutenant of Middlesex] to Viscount Melbourne, 1831, informing him that no accurate estimate of the numbers who "may be likely to join their colours" for militia exercise can be given from the numbers of those enrolled in the County of Middlesex, except in the case of country parishes.

Appointment of James Whiskin to be one of the Deputy Lieutenants of the Tower Hamlets and Liberties thereof, by Arthur, Duke of Wellington, Lord Lieutenant of the same and Constable of the Tower.

The records in this collection relate to the Imperial Yeomanry School from 1904 to 3 March 1931 and to the subsequent Imperial Benevolent Fund for 4 August 1931-12 December 1934. They comprise administrative and financial records, including admission registers and log books. From the names in the admission registers it can be seen that boys had not been admitted by 4 September 1925. The addresses in the register show that although the school was in Middlesex, entrance was not limited to those who lived in Middlesex.

Documents relating to merchant shipping; including release of 'Adina' at termination of voyage, 1867; release of 'Fontabelle' at termination of voyage, 1867; agreement and account of crew for 'Shalimar', including nature and place of voyages, provisions, special conditions of crew, certificates by consuls, with standard regulations and instructions, 1874; log book of 'Shalimar', 1873-1878; agreement and account of voyages and crew of 'S.S. Newburn, including nature of voyage, special conditions for crew, certificates from consuls, 1884; account of voyages and crew of 'Wood Park', 1884.

Records of several generations of the Whitehouse family of Islington. The bulk of the collection comprises a range of family correspondence, including letters from family living or travelling abroad in Pennsylvania and New York, USA; Calcutta, India; Wellington, New Zealand; and France. There are also letters from members of the family serving during the Boer War and the First World War; and letters detailing everyday civilian life in London during the Second World War. Other papers include school reports of Henry Whitehouse junior; papers relating to prizes for artwork; Dramatic Society papers; papers relating to Henry Whitehouse junior acting as Special Constable in Islington; papers relating to property in Hornsey and Islington; financial records and family trees.

This collection of Gimbert family papers dates from 1838 to 1992, covering four generations, and consists mainly of personal records of family members. It includes an apprenticeship deed from 1838 (see ACC/3094/002), some army records, some nineteenth and early twentieth century family photographs and the genealogical notes kept by various family members through the years.

Records of the Corps of River Fencibles of the City of London comprise: a book of subscriptions, 1808 (Ms 6386A); copy muster roll, 1803-7 (Ms 6434); and account of subscriptions to a fund,1809-10 (Ms 6434A). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1951. It is not known whether any other records of this Corps have survived.
