Lecture notes, miscellaneous correspondence and "memoirs" (short stories, often with an autobiographical element) covering his career, 1909-1976. The collection comprises 7 series: 1: file on career, 1920s-1976; 2: 'memoirs' - short stories, composed at various times during Hartridge's life which he intended to publish on his retirement, 1909-1976. His daughter selected those stories which had an autobiographical element in them; 3: Notes, 1947-1953; 4: Corrrespondence, 1928-1951; 5: Lectures, 1920s-1950s; 6: Publications, 1949-1950; 7: Photograph and painting, 1920s-1970s.

Medical, cookery, and household receipts and prescriptions. There are many blank leaves, and a large number of the receipts are inserted loose. Among the latter are 17 holograph receipts, dated between 1830 and 1832 by Jules Sichel [1802-1868], the ophthalmologist. These were all prescribed for Lady Julia.

Correspondence and papers of Thomas Bickerton, 1884-1927, mainly concerning professional matters. The papers reflect Bickerton's interest in colour blindness, and his studies of seamen and railwaymen in this respect. Also his work at Liverpool Medical Institution is well documented, with details of opthalmic surgery and case photographs surviving.

The collection comprises correspondence, writings and administrative material relating to the Jenner family, particularly Dr. Edward Jenner (pioneer of smallpox vaccination) and the associated Black and Davies families, 1680-1877.

The material on Edward Jenner includes papers relating to organisations set up in the aftermath of his vaccination discoveries: the National Vaccine Establishment, the Royal Jennerian Society and the London Vaccine Institution.

Reports of Thomas Lauder Brunton's lectures on therapeutics and notes from a lecture on chloroform with three fragments of lectures on eye affections, on the effects of alcohol, and the effect of drugs on the brain given at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, 1892-[1895].

Papers of James Ware including notes for lectures on the eye and its disorders, notes on anatomy and mathematics, and a partnership indenture, 1760s-1780s.

Papers of John Thomas Woolhouse, early 18th century, comprising two manuscript volumes written in French and Latin, probably containing transcripts of lectures given by Woolhouse. The title on the spine reads Traite des Malad. de l'Oeil.

Manuscript volume containing notes on Robert Whytt's clinical lectures, delivered at Edinburgh University, [1760], taken by an unidentified student. Also includes some 'Directions given by the Physician General at the Havannah to the surgeons of the Army relating to the management of the sick'.

Records of Moorfields Eye Hospital, 1860-1993, including minutes of the Committee of Management and Board of Governors, Building Committee, Building and Planning Committee, Drug Committee, Ethical Committee, Finance Committee, House Committee, Medical Committee, Medical Establishment Committee, Planning Committtee, Staff Committee and Trustees Committee; papers relating to amalgamation with the Central London Opthalmic Hospital; annual reports; statistics; staff records; issues of magazine 'The Hospital' and issues of the Hospital Yearbook.

Records of the Insurance Committee for the County of London, 1912-1948, and the Inner London Executive Council, 1948-1974. The records consist of bound, printed minutes which include agenda, reports and appendices for both the Insurance Committee for the County of London, the Inner London Executive council and its constituent committees and joint committees. Most of the series of minutes are complete.

General Optical Council administrative records, 1959-2000: minutes of the meetings of the Council and its various committees including related memos and correspondence, Annual Reports of the Council and Committees, Notices of Motion, Registers of Opticians and Lists of Corporate Bodies.

Notes relating to Robert Hull, c 1820-1847, including notes of lectures by James Blundell (1790-1877), taken by Hull, and notes on operations by Hull at the Norwich Eye Infirmary.

Papers of Robert Henry Elliot, [1864-1936], reflect his specialisation in the field of ophthalmology and comprise original drawings, slides and catalogues. The collection notably includes hand drawn and coloured illustrations of diseases of the cornea and each is labelled with a diagnosis; slides, comprising 300 black and white photographs of patients with eye disorders and catalogues, including Catalogue of stereoscopic pictures, Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Madras, Elliot School of Ophthalmology (Government Press, Madras, 1932). Papers also include photographs of the original layout of display cases within the Elliot collection museum.

Papers of William Cullen, comprising notes of his lectures, taken by an unidentified student, 1771, entitled 'Methodus medendi febrium', including lectures on arthritis and gout, malaria and measles.

Papers of Charles Taylor comprising manuscript notebook of Charles Taylor, dresser at Guy's and clinical assistant to Dr Richard Bright, on various ophthalmological subjects. Also contains letter in the front of the volume from [C Ormond] to [T B] Layton, 11 Sep 1931; testimonials from C Aston Key, 25 May 1839; G A Barlow, 23 Nov 1840; B G Babington, 22 Nov 1840; and Richard Bright, 20 Nov 1840; certificates including Guy's Hospital Medical School certificate of attendance at lectures on lectures on principles, practice and operations of surgery 1 Oct 1836 (damaged); attendance at practice of surgery as a dresser to Mr Key, Oct 1838; and attendance at lectures on the theory and practice of medicine, 17 Dec 1838 (mounted on card).
