The collection documents the work of the Group Analytic Society, the Institute of Group Analysis and the Trust for Group Analysis, 1950-2003. It includes unsigned minutes and committee papers, details of scientific and training activities, financial and administrative papers, some correspondence and a series of taped interviews about the early history of group analysis.

Papers of the Society for the Study of Addiction to Alcohol and other Drugs, 1920s-1970s, comprising minutes, 1921-1969 and 1976; registers of attendance, 1904-1939; financial records, 1930s and 1960s; and uncatalogued meeting papers and correspondence, 1965-1968. Including minutes of the London Society for Study of Addiction, 1965-1967.

Responses to a questionnaire by Paul Plaut, designed as research for Die Psychologie der produktiven Persönlichkeit, from prominent scientists and artists in Germany and Austria on their views about science and creativity. There are some interesting responses from outside the German speaking countries (Miguel de Unamuno, John Galsworthy), but the bulk of the contributions represent the views of German-speaking academics and artists. Responses to the scientific questionnaire include Albert Einstein, Fritz Haber and Erwin Finlay Freundlich as well as lay figures such as Gustav Radbrüch and Wilhelm Hellpach. Communications from writers range from letters by Heinrich and Franziska Mann to a postcard from Elsa Laska-Schüler. Architects write about their work and new ideas (Erich Mendelsohn) and some of the painters give insights into their creative development, notably Wassily Kandinsky, Otto Dix and Max Pechstein.

Collection of miscellaneous medical material, 1744-1931, including 14 notebooks, comprising anatomical notes taken from a course of Dr John Hunter's lectures in 1774; a commentary, 1857, on Dr Alexander Munro's Osteology; notes by J Talfourd Jones on lectures on medical subjects, 1860-1863; notes on experiments in physiology by E H Starling, 1892; miscellaneous other notes, 1744-c1910 and undated. There are also printed reports of Manchester Public Infirmary and Lunatic Hospital, 1779-1780, 1786-1787, and of Manchester Lying-In Hospital, Salford, 1807-1812 (14 items, including some duplicates); miscellaneous photographs and negatives, 1889-1931 and undated, including some of tourist spots.

Sir Alexander Morison's papers, 1824-1846, consist of reports and notes of cases of insanity, in Morison's hand, 1824-1829, and an essay by Morison on 'the morbid appearances in insanity', in the hand of one of his daughters, 1846.

Papers of Albert Wilson, c1870, comprising a volume titled [H]uman [P]athology, Prof. Saunders, 2 containing manuscript notes by Wilson, taken at the Pathology lectures of Professor Sanders at Edinburgh University; and a loose sheet containing notes on Tubercular Phthisis. The sheet of paper is from the Edinburgh Medical-Missionary Society's Training Institution and Dispensary at No 39 Cowgate. Wilson was resident physician at the Cowgate Dispensary.

Correspondence, mainly to Martin Folkes on a large variety of subjects, including administrative matters for the Royal Society.

This collection includes notebooks from early in Stott's career, [1940-1959], and a collection of Stott's published papers, 1950s-1970s. The notebooks comprise a numbered series of 25 notebooks mainly containing notes on diverse topics from a wide range of authors, with a subject index compiled by Stott himself; a notebook entitled 'lecture notes' on statistical method and one on 'statistical formulae'.

Papers of William Blair-Bell, 1913-1931, comprising personal correspondence, correspondence and papers relating to the treatment of cancer, and letters relating to individual patients; casebooks, 1900-1903, 1908-1911; notebook containing physiological tracings obtained by Blair-Bell and G H Lansdown, 1893; notebook of test results kept for Blair-Bell, 1911 with case notes inserted; Blair-Bell's lecture notebooks, c1904, on topics including chemistry, insanity, anatomy, diseases of the eye, psychology, surgical pathology, zoology, physiology, intestinal obstruction, surgery, tumours: innocent and malignant, midwifery and gynaecology, infectious diseases, diseases of the gall bladder, a sketchbook of histology and loose notes on various medical conditions; notebooks entitled 'catalogue of old books belonging to W Blair Bell', divided into 'general' and 'medical', 1907 and thesis by Helen Standring, 'An investigation of the cause and treatment of uterine inertia', 1928.

This collection consists of Ginsberg's correspondence; research notes and correspondence relating to Ginsberg's books articles, reviews and papers, including 'The Material Culture and Social Institutions of the Simpler Peoples', 'Dialogues on Metaphysics', 'Sociology', and the preface to L T Hobhouses 'Morals in Evolution'; research notes and lectures on subjects including logic, religion, morals, ethics, social psychology, and the influence of environment and heredity on race and class; papers and correspondence concerning university administration and examinations, relating predominantly to the University of London; Correspondence with L T Hobhouse and papers relating to his life and works and the Hobhouse Memorial Fund; miscellaneous papers and publications on sociological subjects including mental illness and race relations; and collected articles on sociological subjects by other authors.

This collection consists of the personal and family correspondence of Sir Joshua Jebb, correspondence relating to prison matters, memoranda, accounts and papers relating to his work, printed material relating to prisons, family and personal papers and a family tree.
