This material was given to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre in November 1998 by Dr Tilli Tansey of the Twentieth Century Group, Academic Unit, Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine.

Papers relating to the Wellcome Witness Seminars, 1993-1997, including original audio tapes of the seminars (in most cases, master plus copy); photographs of witnesses and other participants; correspondence, both administrative and between the Twentieth Century Group and witnesses; and programmes and lists of participants.

All audio-visual materials (except for third and further copies of tapes), participant lists and programmes have been retained. Drafts with major or significant comments by contributors have also been kept. Routine administrative correspondence, duplicates and drafts with minor corrections have been weeded. Transcripts have only been retained for those seminars for which these were not eventually published in some form. Copyright assignment forms are held on file by the CMAC.

The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.

The proceedings of Ashes to Ashes: The History of Smoking and Health, edited by Stephen Lock, were published by Rodopi in 1998.
