The Principal's Secretary, who was responsible for student records and examinations, initially undertook the work of the registrar. In 1944, a new Registrar's Department was created to deal with the clerical work and official correspondence of the College.

Student records, 1887-[1985], notably Registers of Students, 1887-[1971], giving various details of name, age, parents, previous education, qualifications gained and date of leaving; Students' Record Sheets, 1907-1949, giving brief details of a student's family and career at College, including clubs and social activities; Registers of Students, listed according to their course of study, 1901-1937; lists of holders of external scholarships, 1930-1966, Officers of College societies, 1920-1971, non-Anglican students, 1897-1942, and the religious denominations of students, 1930-1953; Registers of schools attended by students at Royal Holloway College, 1929-1943; reports and statistics, notably Lecturers' termly reports on classes, 1909-1963, and departmental tables and graphs, 1923-1935, on student numbers, courses and teaching hours at Royal Holloway College. Examination and Prize records, 1887-[?1985], including Registers of results of University of London Examinations, 1887-[?1985]; Registers of results, mark sheets, examination papers and memoranda relating to the Royal Holloway College Entrance Scholarships, 1887-1969; mark sheets, reports, recommendations and examination papers for the Founder's Scholarship, the Driver Scholarship and Prize, and the Christie Scholarship and Prize, 1888-[?1985], including reports of the external examiner and visiting conductor on the candidates for the Driver Music Prize; regulations, memoranda and letters relating to prizes given at Royal Holloway College, 1906-[?1985]. Copies of College Publications, 1896-1973, including Royal Holloway College brochures, 1895 and 1964; illustrated prospectuses, 1937-1973; annual College Calendars, 1896-1940 and 1947-1973; Annual Reports, 1939-1946 and 1970-1972; secondary printed texts on the history of Bedford and Royal Holloway Colleges. Reports, letters and memoranda concerning University of London Visitations, 1908-1950.

Papers arranged in bound volumes or files according to subject.

Administrative and Committee papers are closed for 30 years from the last date on file. Papers relating to individuals are usually closed for 100 years from the subject's birth. Users are advised to consult the College Archivist for specific details.

Copies of open material may be supplied, subject to the condition of the original. Requests to publish original material should be directed to the College Archivist.
