These relate to matters such as Health and Safety in the workplace, refreshment facilities, general health and well being of employees, work related issues such as equal opportunites and harassment, Post Office benevolent societies, staff awards and recreational clubs.

Records of the London County Council Public Health Department relating to the School Health Service, 1905-1964, including papers relating to partially-sighted children, medical examination of scholarship candidates, feeding of schoolchildren, sex education in residential schools, medical inspection of schoolchildren, medical and dental treatment of schoolchildren, statistics for annual reports, open air classes, treatment of stammerers and the Joint Working Party on Transfer to the London Boroughs.

Papers of individual hospitals, clinics and treatment centres which provided medical treatment for school children (please consult catalogue for full list). Papers relating to the cleansing of verminous schoolchildren including warm baths in schools, cutting of hair, use of paraffin for cleansing heads, procedures for cleansing, provision of mackintosh capes for cleansing verminous children, cleansing of children in open air schools, procedure for cleansing children when the parents are illiterate, synchronising of cleansing of homes and of children, vermicide experiments and papers of individual cleansing stations and shampoo stations.

Samples of case-papers of children dealt with under the Rheumatism Scheme; report 'The Ascertainment, Care, Education and Training of Educable Mentally Handicapped Children'; report on Social Workers and the Health Visiting Service; report on Psychological Services for Children in London; leaflets 'Health Hints to Parents' (1910) and 'The Health of Schoolchildren' (1912); leaflet of breathing exercises (1922) and samples of School Health Service forms.

A thick file of unpaginated duplicated material entitled 'Child Health and Environment: Bethnal Green', 1960s, apparently course material distributed in connection with a course in, presumably, child health, at St Bartholomew's Hospital (University House). The material is undated but from references within the text and given in the bibliography would appear to have been compiled in the late 1960s. The approach taken in the course would seem to emphasise the environmental aspect of child health and to take a social medicine perspective. Notes circulated in connection with a course on the above given at St Bartholomew's Hospital during the late 1960s.

Papers of Bernard Sandler, 1946-1989 including correspondence, reprints and unpublished material on infertility, sex education and allied subjects.

Letters to Mary Scharlieb, and testimonials about her, 1890-1912, [n.d.], and 3 letters from her, 1909-1923, on medical, philanthropic, political (women's suffrage) and personal matters. The testimonials are from Sir Frederick Treves, Sir James Paget, and Henry Acland, and correspondents include Millicent Garrett Fawcett, Dorothea Beale, Mary Kingsley, Sarah Grand, Michael Foster, Lord Roberts, and Philip Gibbs. The Herbert Scharlieb items consist mainly of testimonials when applying for the post of Assistant Anaesthetist at the Dental Hospital, 1901, including from J Rose Bradford, H Charlton Bastian, Rickman J Godlee, and Victor Horsley, but there is also a letter to him from his mother while in Madras, 1884, and one from Marcus Beck about the University College Athletic Fund, 1892.

The study was based on meetings and taped interviews with consultants, junior doctors and nursing staff, plus documentary evidence. The latter is not included in the records given to the Contemporary Medical Archives Centre, nor (with one exception) are the records of meetings, but the taped interviews have been deposited in full. The interviewees give pseudonyms rather than their actual names.

MS. 3352: Copy dated c1805 of a journal of a voyage from London to Cochin-China, 11 September 1792-15 June 1793. Note on verso of leaf 2 signed 'J.B.' (Sir John Barrow (1764-1848), Secretary to the Admiralty, and founder of the Royal Geographical Society) states 'This journal was written by Lord Macartney on board the Lion merely for his own amusement and to pass away a few heavy hours on a very long sea voyage'. Video cassette tapes accumulated by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, relating to the history of anaesthesia in the 20th century. The tapes, made between 1982-2000, with the original films dating from 1916 to 1998, include some compilations, and comprise some black and white and silent material but focus predominantly on the latter part of the period. The subjects cover various anaesthetic drugs, equipment and techniques, and related subjects including midwifery, dentistry, paediatrics, emergency medicine, resuscitation, artificial respiration and intensive care, and the locations include various hospitals, and military situations. A series of oral history interviews feature eminent anaesthetists talking about their work. Some of the videos were made for conferences or training purposes, and some relate to the Association of Anaesthetists itself, including a video of the opening ceremony of no 9 Bedford Square.
