Biographical history
Verdeil was an eminent Swiss physician and scientist who practised at Lausanne. He began to practise in 1770 (see MS.4921) and rose to become President of the Bureau de Santé for the city and Vice-President of the Collège de Médecine at Lausanne from 1797. In the latter he succeeded Samuel Auguste André David Tissot (1728-1797). In 1799 he became head of the Swiss Army Medical Services.

In the latter he succeeded Samuel Auguste André David Tissot (1728-1797). In 1799 he became head of the Swiss Army Medical Services.
Personal papers of François Verdeil, including correspondence and Clinical Case books, 1787-1820. In addition to the case books, the correspondence mainly relate to his treatment of patients, with some letters relating to the treatment of his wife. There are also some administrative papers concerning the establishment of a Collège de Médecine at Lausanne.
The papers are available subject to the usual conditions of access to Archives and Manuscripts material, after the completion of a Reader's Undertaking.
