GB 0117 MS/131 [1663-1764] Sub-fonds 1 volume Waller , Richard , c 1650-1715 , Secretary of Royal Society

Born, c 1646; educated, Christ's College, Cambridge; BA, 1667; Fellow of the Royal Society, 1681; secretary of the Royal Society, 1687–1709 and 1710–1714; died, 1715.

Scrap book of drawings by Richard Waller attached is a report by Dr Christopher J Brooke entitled 'Avebury - Multispectral Photographic Examination of manuscript drawing in pencil by John Aubrey' made 23 February 1989 referring to MS/131/67.

There are two different sequences used in two fields in the database:

--RefNo: Number of the folio inside of the book (MS/131/82-A)

--Previous Numbers: Number of each drawing (because they had already been numbered).

These two sequences DO NOT run in parallel because of several reasons:

1) The sequence of the folios starts, obviously, from 1 (2,3,4 ...) but the drawings are numbered starting from 2. This causes the first imbalance between both sequences.

2) Sometimes there are three (or more) drawings contained in the same folio (58-A, 58-B and 58-C are placed in folio number 57), while in other cases several drawings belonging to the same numerical sequence are distributed across different folios (60-A is placed in the folio number 59, 60-B is placed in the folio number 60, etc.)

3) There are some empty folios (sometimes with the indication of "Missing" in the list you can find at the beginning of the book). I have omitted this information in the database because there is no point indicating that there are some drawings we cannot describe, but these empty folios have been respected in both sequences.
