Papers of Eleanor Hess, 1872-1990s, document the life of a German Jewish refugee to Great Britain, and, in part, the lives of family members. The papers include emigration and citizenship papers of her grandfather Emil, c1870s; certificates and First World War army records of Julius, her father and correspondence from Eleanor and her brother, Herbert, in Brazil, to their mother, c1950s. The collection includes 2 boxes of family photographs. In addition there is an unpublished memoir of Eleanor, which describes the life of a Jewish girl in Nazi Germany and the experience of emigration to a foreign land.

The Hetherington collection consists predominantly of a series of notes of interviews with political figures from Britain and overseas kept between November 1958 and July 1975. Rough notes were made after the interviews which were later sent for typing; where a lengthy delay intervened prior to typing this is indicated. Frequent accounts are given of meetings with Labour leaders from Hugh Gaitskell to James Callaghan and there were regular meetings with Jo Grimond, leader of the Liberal Party, in the early years. Regional development and the Scottish government are frequent themes throughout the British interviews and there are discussions of the spy scandals of the early 1960s and the industrial disputes of the early 1970s. Foreign affairs figure strongly including Rhodesia's declaration of UDI, the independence of African states, the Vietnam War and the pursuit of a settlement in the Middle East. Britain's negotiations towards entry into the EEC can be traced. The section 'Additional Papers' contains notes on an attempted merger of The Times and the Guardian in 1967.

Papers of 'The Hidden Jews of Berlin', 1999, comprise interview transcripts with German Jews. The televison programme included detailed accounts of life in hiding in Berlin during World War Two; experience of capture, interrogation by Jewish collaborators and Gestapo and betrayal by Jews; Mischlinge; Fabrikation; Siemens; Rosenstrasse protest; Grosse Hamburger Strasse; life in Berlin before the war.

The papers are not extensive and consist almost entirely of laboratory notebooks and working papers relating to his early work on molecular reactions and gas reactions, 1919-1938. Manuscript volume containing extracts [made in 1801] from the records of the Hudson's Bay Company dated between 1684 and 1719, relating to efforts to maintain the Company's monopoly, renew its charter and guarantee its priveledges against the French during the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714) and the Peace of Utrecht (Apr 1713). The presence of the Company's arms on the binding suggests the extracts were made by them.

The report concentrates on analysing the layout, organization and structures found on the airfields.
