Biographical history
The Central Joint Committee was formed after a Conference held by the Workers' Educational Association and Oxford University in1907 which produced a report Oxford and Working Class Education in the following year. The Joint Committee comprised 7 people nominated by the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and 7 by the WEA Executive Committee. It was dissolved in 1957.

The collection was transferred from the WEA headquarters in Bethnal Green to the custody of the TUC Library Collections at the University of North London in 1998.
