Records of the Diocese of Western China, comprising registers of baptisms and marriages and baptism and marriage certificate books.

Records of Joshua Alexander, solicitor and property developer, recording the drawing up of building agreements and the granting of leases of the resulting houses. None of the agreements or leases survive but the pattern of development can be traced through the accounts of advances for building and the ground rents received for leases.

Building agreements and lease books: These books record cash advances made by Joshua Alexander and his business partner William Bradshaw under building agreements for the development of their various estates. When leases were granted of newly erected houses, ground rents received under them were likewise recorded. Apart from including names of lessees and addresses of property leased, the books are heavily annotated with references to court proceedings, assignments of interests and other actions necessary for administrating estates. Each book is indexed under names of tenants.

Rentals: These record the payment of ground rents by lessee of houses on the various estates described above. Each rental is arranged by estate and contains name and address of lessee or assignee, address of property rented, amount of ground rent due and summaries of totals..

Letter books: family and personal letters. Copies of letters from Lionel Alexander of personal and family nature, many concerning involvement with Jewish institutions, charities and general affairs, also copies of letters to press and articles.

Records of the Central British Fund for World Jewish Relief, predecessor organisations and associated organisations. The archive details the work of the Fund in shelters, hostels, internment camps, schools and foster homes.

Records include correspondence; reports; appeals; records relating to relief organisations including the Jewish Committee for Relief Abroad, the Pioneer Welfare Fund; the Medical Committee for Relief Abroad and the Jewish Board of Guardians; records relating to refugee organisations including the Central Committee for Refugees; the Central Office for Refugees; Jewish Refugees Committee and Children's Refugee Movements; records relating to the Agudas Israel World Organisation and the Israel Colonisation Organisation; administrative papers including Committee minutes and papers; and case files for Afghan, Argentine, Austrian, Belgian, British, Czech, Egyptian, Ethiopian, German, Hungarian, Iranian, Lebanese, Moroccan, Polish, Rumanian, Russian, South African, Syrian, American and Yugoslavian cases.

Correspondence of Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler, 1868-1901. A small number of records survive from around 1868 for the Chief Rabbinate of Nathan Adler and more from the late 1870s onwards - around the time Hermann Adler began to undertake many of his father's duties for him. Records of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, 1760-2002. The archive is central to the history of the modern Jewish community in Britain. It covers virtually every facet of Jewish life in Britain in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - assimiliation, education, political emancipation, Shechita, anti-Semitism. The archive is particularly interesting on the conditions of Jewry outside the UK - there is a lot of information, for example, on the rise of fascism in mainland Europe in the 1930s and the Holocaust.

Records of Samuel Fisher, local government officer. The collection reflects the range of his interests and involvement in public life. There are a large number of photographs and press cuttings as well as some family papers. The photographs show Fisher's activities as Mayor and as Chairman of the London Labour Mayors Association, and include pictures of visits to Geneva, Australia, Gibraltar, New York, Israel and Belfast.

Records relating to the Liberal Jewish Synagogue and the Jewish Religious Union, consisting of the working papers and sermons of Israel Mattuck, Lily Montagu, Claude Montefiore and Leslie Edgar. The records do not deal exclusively with their roles within the Liberal Jewish movement, but cover a range of their activities. Some more personal correspondence also exists within the collection. There are also some papers of the Jewish Religious Union, including history and press cuttings.

Records of the London Society for Jews and Christians, including minute books; correspondence; financial accounts; reports; bulletins; press cuttings; papers for publication; copies of talks; and programmes and advertisements for meetings and conferences.

Records of the United Synagogue's Head Office, including minutes, agendas, presented papers, printed annual reports and accounts, byelaws and standing orders, papers relating to property, letter books and correspondence, financial accounts, insurance papers, membership papers, records relating to staff, administrative records, photographs, press cuttings, orders of service, Aubrey Newman's files, and papers relating to Soviet Jewry. This material has been catalogued in 20 sub-fonds (ACC/2712/01 to ACC/2712/20).

Also included in this collection are records of the individual member synagogues; these comprise mainly membership records, but there are also administrative and financial records for some synagogues. Records of bodies connected with the United Synagogue to a greater or lesser extent are also included in this collection, such as the Office of the Chief Rabbi, London Beth Din and Beth Hamedrash, the Kashrut Commission and various Jewish friendly societies and charities. The United Synagogue's close links with Anglo-Jewish education are also represented in the collection, including records of individual schools such as the Jews' Free School.
