Papers relating to the London estate of the Marquess of Camden. The records consist almost exclusively of deeds and leases for property on the estate.

Papers of the Davis family, comprising deeds relating to 52 Marlborough Place, Saint Marylebone.

Papers of the Nokes family, mostly relating to property in the City of London, Newington and Shoreditch, but also copies of certificates (baptisms, marriages, deaths) and copies of wills and probates.

The collection comprises title deeds relating to land owned by the Benn-Walsh family, barons Ormathwaite, in Marylebone, Westminster, Stepney, Essex, Buckinghamshire and County Durham.

Papers of the Roupell family relating to property in Charlton and Woolwich, including rentals, accounts and plans. Documents relating to a distillery in Paddington and to appointment as a gaoler at Newgate appear to be unconnected to the family. It is possible that they are linked with the legal practice of Robert G. Roupell, Q.C., or G. B. Roupell.

Records of the Ward family comprising title deeds for property on Long Acre, Garden Lane and Hart Street, Covent Garden, and in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster.

Personal papers of Canon Samuel Augustus Barnett, social reformer. The papers comprise correspondence, sermons and lecture notes, and miscellanea. The bulk of the correspondence consists of weekly letters from the Canon to his brother, Francis G. Barnett and, after the latter's death, to his widow and her daughter and sons. For the years before 1883 there are no letters at all, and before 1889 there are fewer than for the later years of the correspondence. Normally the Canon wrote every Saturday, but there are frequent periods when there was no correspondence, when the Canon was in residence at Bristol during the summers of 1893-1906, and when the two families were holidaying together. There are also large groups of letters written by the Canon to his mother and family in the form of travel journals during his trips to Egypt in 1879-1880 and round the world in 1890-1891.

There are very few in-letters. The letters to F G Barnett are almost always four octavo pages in length. They were bundled in one or two year periods by Dame Henrietta when preparing her biography of her husband. On several letters there are editorial instructions, deletions and emendations by Dame Henrietta. These were made in pencil and were, at some subsequent period, erased. Within each bundle Dame Henrietta also numbered the letters. Her numbering has not been indicated in the list, nor has it been followed, as several of the letters were in fact misplaced.

There is a series of bound sermon notebooks and miscellaneous lecture notes amongst these papers. Although the sermon notes are basically complete for the St. Jude's period, 1875-1888, the lecture notes are only a fraction of the Canon's output.

Some miscellaneous documents and in-letters were kept by the Canon for their intrinsic importance, e.g. formal documents relating to his benefice at St. Jude's, and these have survived. There are, in addition, miscellaneous photographs, mostly of the Canon, but also of his wife and of his family.

These papers will be of interest to historians for the information they give on Canon Barnett's life, and for the frequent and lengthy discussions of the political, social and intellectual life of the day. They are enhanced in value by the fact that Dame Henrietta was avowedly unable to do them more than scant justice in her life of the Canon (see Canon Barnett: his life, work and friends vol I, p.377), and that the records of Toynbee Hall have been decimated by war damage and destruction.

Papers of the Steedman family and related families the Faulconers and Crisps, including bills, apprenticeship indenture, certificates, marriage settlement, pedigrees, sacrament certificates and a history of the firm of John Steedman and Company, Walworth.

Personal papers of Willoughby Hyett Dickinson, Lord Dickinson of Painwick. These papers reflect Dickinson's interests as a London County Councillor, an MP and a peer, and also his involvement in the London Liberal Federation, of which he was Chairman 1896-1918, the World Alliance for promoting International Friendship through the Churches and the League of Nations Union.

Papers of the Marks family, including apprenticeship indenture as a coach smith and birth, baptism and marriage certificates.

Records of the Rivington family, booksellers, 1759-1840, including marriage settlements, agreements, leases, wills, probates and deeds.

Album of photographs, sketches and newspaper cuttings relating to Capt. JB Wyndham Drake's family, friends, and regiment.

The collection comprises diaries of William Hugh Burgess, a fifteen-year old boy from a family of Huguenot descent, who lived in Marylebone in the late eighteenth-century. They are rare examples of historical diaries written by a child.

In what became part of his daily routine from January 1788 until October 1790, William wrote about himself and his everyday life, simply recording what he did and what he saw.

Records of the West family. This collection comprises papers, 1811-1911, many dating from the 1840s to the 1870s, including material relating to cotton presses, engines, pumps, etc, 1816-1891; printed reports of West's Patent Press Company Ltd, 1873-1911; papers, 1824-1870, largely relating to domestic and manufacturing premises in St Pancras, including notices of railway companies relating to intended lines; correspondence and various other family papers (accounts, bills, diaries, notes, drawings, probate papers, etc), 1811-1878, including material relating to voyages and time spent in India (including Bombay) by family members, also including material relating to the estate of Robert Stephen Kitson, and material relating to attendance of family members at King's College School, King's College London, and London University; letters patent and specification for improvements in working railway signals, 1863; bundle of letters from Mr W Notter (box-office keeper in Covent Garden), 1825-1839, 1853-1855.

Records of the Worshipful Company of Feltmakers, 1667-2005. The records include registers of freedom admissions and apprentice bindings from 1676. There are no membership records for the years 1709-1725. Records of the Worshipful Company of Grocers, 1345-2000. The records of the Company include registers of freedom admissions from 1346 and of apprentice bindings from 1457. There are also items relating to schools administered by the Company, including: Witney Free Grammar School, Oxfordshire; Hackney Downs Grammar School; Oundle School, Northamptonshire; and Walwyn's Free School, Colwall, Herefordshire. In addition, the Library holds the Company's "Black Book" (Ms 11570) which dates from 1345 and contains details of the foundation of the Fraternity of Pepperers and its ordinances. The original of the 1345 and later ordinances and its grants of arms of 1532 and 1562 have been lost.

Witney Free Grammar School (former references: MS 11631 - 11632). The records, in 14 production units dating between 1670 and 1939, comprise constitutional documents and accounts only. They were deposited with records of the Grocers' Company in 1965 and 1996 and catalogued by Guildhall Library archivists.

Hackney Downs Grammar School (former references: MS11633 - 11635A, MS11821, MS11906 - 11907, MS11912, MS11914, MS39816). The records, in 19 production units dating between 1873 and 1907, comprise minutes, accounts and reports only. They were deposited by the Grocers' Company at various dates since 1965, and catalogued by members of Guildhall Library staff.

Records of London and North Eastern Railway Company, 1926-1944. This series consists of 45 deeds, leases and licences to sublet company land, particularly for the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley, Blandford Square, Circus Road, Loudoun Road, Marlborough Hill, Wellington Road in St. Marylebone and Alexandra Road and Broadhurst Gardens in Hampstead. Records of the Royal Association for Deaf People. The collection contains a wealth of information relating to the development of work with Deaf people over the 19th and 20th centuries in London and south-east England, including relief of the necessitous poor in the 19th century, the establishment of Deaf church communities from the 1880s and the early promotion of Sign Language as a recognised form of communication in the 1850s by Reverend Samuel Smith.

Also papers relating to the Library including meeting minutes and reports, agreements, correspondence and centenary celebrations; and papers relating to Northwold Road Synagogue include a congregation scrapbook, congregation attendance register and marriage certificates.

Records of J W Falkner and Sons Limited, 1893-1982. This collection consists of administrative material including office files and correspondence (1902-1963); financial records including ledgers, cash books and accounts (1893-1964); and plans and files relating to the various commissions the company undertook (1893-1968).

Records of James McMillan and Company, iron and steel merchants, consisting of ledgers, 1873-1926, cash books from 1899, and a short series of letter books and order books.

Records donated by the London Gas Museum, comprising some 400 Ordnance Survey sheets of various scales and editions, 1893-1989. Many have been amended to show property owned or leased by the Gas Light and Coke Company, the Brentford Gas Company or the North Thames Gas Board. These properties tend to be gas works or showrooms. The plans cover only parts of the area north of the River Thames. There are no sheets for areas south of the Thames. A later deposit consisted of staff magazines and photographs for both the North Thames Gas Board and the South Eastern Gas Board.

Administrative Records include minutes of the General Committee 1828 to 1965, Donors and Subscribers half yearly meetings 1844 to 1861, Monthly meetings 1883 to 1902, the Management Committee 1959 to 1984, House Committee 1839 to 1973, and Building committees 1853 to 1866 and 1953 to 1955.

Finance Records consist of Annual Statements 1963 to 1981, Accounts both income and expenditure 1831 to 1983, Registers of Donors and Subscribers 1835 to 1981, Annual returns 1975, 1979, 1980, and a rent book for Balls Pond Road 1905 to 1930.

Printed Material contains publications such as rules of the Almshouses 1855, 1926 and 1955, The Almshouse Gazette 1965 to 1990, and typescript notes about the history of the MBSA, plans of the Almshouse 1956 to 1980's and some ephemeral items which include a Warden's Diary from 1945 and a schedule of deeds and documents handed to trustees on 17th December 1878.

Records of Percy Jones (Twinlock) Limited, ledger manufacturers, 1905-1993. Records include minutes dating from 1912 to 1957, articles of association, and correspondence dating from 1910 to 1960, personnel records which concern Twinlock personnel during the Second World War; financial records including balance sheets from 1909 and a cash book dating from 1905 along with sales records and figures 1918 to 1965, salaries and pensions information 1940's to 1964; papers relating to associated organisations including the Shannon Company and factory 1906 to 1967.

Also publications including the "Twinlock News" from 1916 to 1963, as well as a history of the company, and a set of product catalogues 1913 to 1960's; a good selection of products dating from 1910 to 1970's showing the development of the Twinlock products and the work that went into their design and creation; photographs showing members of the Company, the Twinlock works in Beckenham and South Africa, and workers social events and activities; and a series of artefacts from the Twinlock Factory includes the Time-Bell from the Little Sutton Street premises and a 'Timothy Twinlock' Uniform which was the costume worn by the Company logo, a page boy holding a pile of books. The costume dates from the 1950's and includes the page boy's cap.

Records of Howards and Sons Ltd, manufacturers of pharmaceutical chemicals, 1902-1956. Comprising documents in English, French, German and Dutch, the collection reflects the company's active involvement in the world quinine market, especially in the years immediately following World War I (1918-1920), as well as its membership of the Association of Quinine Manufacturers in Allied Countries and the Quinine Manufacturers' Association at that time.

Records of the Uxbridge Choral Society. The collection consists of minutes, general and concert administration, finance, printed material including programmes and posters and some photographs of rehearsals.

Records of J G Abraham and Company, property developers, 1880-1978. The records deposited include only a small proportion of the total bulk of records, but enough to represent the geographical location of the estates and the types of housing provided. The records consist of three deed books, a property register, ledgers and several plans. The plans particularly relate to developments in Leyton and Canning Town.

Records of Falk Stadelmann and Company Limited, manufacturers of heating and lighting equipment, 1887-1980. The records include minute books, resolutions/declarations, reports/accounts, registers, letter books, ledgers, catalogues and brochures, journals and newsletters, historical notes, memorandum and articles of association/related papers, a signature book, and annual returns.

Personal papers of Hartley Booth, MP. The majority of the archive is concerned with Hartley Booth's parliamentary career. LMA/4021/01 relates to Booth's parliamentary responsibilities, in particular European affairs. In addition there are files containing correspondence and background material which relate to Private Members' Bills promoted by Booth. LMA/4021/01 also contains subject files on national issues that emanated from constituents' cases.

LMA/4021/02 contains constituents' correspondence and case files as well as subject files relating to local issues. LMA/4021/03 contains Conservative Party material and subject files which relate to the period when Booth was a prospective parliamentary candidate. These files relate to both local and national issues.

As the collection consists of parliamentary and constituency material, there is a closure period of 30 years. There is no closure period on the published material in LMA/4021/04.
