Records of the Working Women's College, later known as the Frances Martin College for Women. The records listed here cover the history of the college from its foundation in 1874 until 1957, a period of 88 years. Minutes of council and AGMs from 1874 onwards, kept in the hand of Miss Frances Martin until 1920 almost without a break, annual prospectuses and an almost complete series of annual reports exist. These, together with college magazines and scrapbooks give a very full picture of the life and activities of the college since its foundation, and reveal the remarkable enthusiasm and dedicated service of all those who have been connected with it which have carried it forward successfully over the years through good times and bad.

Papers of Professor Albrecht Fröhlich, 1916-2001, reflecting his mathematical research, publications and correspondence with colleagues. Papers are divided into six sections comprising biographical papers; research papers; publications; papers relating to visits, conferences and lectures; correspondence and theses and examinations.

Biographical papers include obituaries, memoirs and papers relating to memorials including a service in the Chapel of Robinson College Cambridge, 10 Feb 2002; autobiographical papers including copy of Fröhlich's entry for Personal Records of Fellows of the Royal Society; papers relating to Fröhlich's career, honours and awards including his Ph.D. thesis 'On some topics in the theory of representation of groups and in class field theory', and correspondence and papers relating to his university appointments and some of his principal honours, including election to the Fellowship of the Royal Society.

Research papers chiefly comprise mathematical workings, notes and drafts: notably relating to work on the decomposition of primes [1950] and work on Galois module theory and Gauss sums.

Publications comprise published material by Fröhlich, 1950-2000, drafts and unpublished drafts, including work with Charles Terence Clegg Wall on Brauer groups, 'Galois modules and the functional equation', and draft of a longer text entitled 'mathematical theory of ostensive and consequently of empirical predicates'.

Visits, conferences and lectures include papers relating to Fröhlich's conference attendance and overseas visits 1956-1998, documentation of his participation in mathematics meetings held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut, Oberwolfach, Germany and papers relating to Visiting Professorships, including invitations, programmes, and texts or abstracts of lectures.

Correspondence,1950-2000, on subjects including progress of Fröhlich's research, discussions of problems with mathematical workings and drafts of papers. Notable correspondents include Fröhlich's Ph.D. supervisor Hans Arnold Heilbronn, colleagues Jean-Pierre Serre, Olga Taussky-Todd, Stephen Virgil Ullom and Charles Terence Clegg Wall, and former research students Colin J. Bushnell, Martin J. Taylor and Stephen Mark Johnson Wilson.

The papers of Professor Anthony Guest consisting of minutes and correspondence, notably relating to a working party on Religious Studies at King's College London, set up to consider the future of the discipline, and of which Professor Guest was chairman, 1976-1977.

The papers range over Hackett's career and interests, the subjects including his official posts as Commandant, Royal Military College of Science, Shrivenham, 1958-1961, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, 1963-1964, and Commander in Chief, British Army of the Rhine, 1965-1966; King's College London and other academic institutions; his lecture 'The profession of arms' and other conferences, lectures and speeches, including Kermit Roosevelt lecture tour, 1967; publications including I was a stranger (1977) and Third World War (1978); UK and overseas military associations and institutions, including the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars and Queen's Royal Hussars, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Royal United Services Institution, Institute of Strategic Studies; annual memorial visits to Arnhem. Another accession (1 box) comprises typescript essays with related papers, photographs and plans concerning the Battle of Arnhem collected by Lt Col Theodore A Boeree, including extracts from the diary of Miss Riek van der Vlist, [1944], kept at Hotel Schoonard, the temporary British hospital during the Battle of Arnhem; a file of press cuttings on various military matters, 1968-1970; press article by Gen Hackett on Arnhem, 1974; two letters between Hackett and Dr Hedwig Delekat of Mainz, Germany, Jul-Aug 1968, concerning the fact that Hackett had no connection with Gen Halket, who served under Wellington. Sir Henry Head's papers, 1891-1909, consist of his casebooks of patients with Herpes Zoster, with sketches and photographs, chiefly from Head's work at the London Hospital, 1891-1909, and his casebooks of patients with various diseases, with sketches and charts, from his work at the City of London Hospital for Diseases of the Heart and Lungs, Victoria Park, 1894.

Papers of Elsie Maria Mansbridge [1937-1940] contain notebooks and textbooks from Mansbridge's studies at Queen Elizabeth College; specifically two leather bound note books printed with 'King's College of H.&S.S.' containing physiology notes, graphs and diagrams taken by Hedin [1936-1940]; one leather bound notebook labelled 'household arts and laundry, volumetric analysis, first year degree' [1937]; one large purple bound notebook labelled 'E.Hedin 2nd year degree gravimetric analysis' [1938]; one large green notebook engraved 'sectional book' and labelled 'Hedin Physics KCHSS Group B' containing notes and diagrams. The collection also contains first, second and fourth year exam papers, 1937-1940 and books concerning household studies and chemistry, many of which were written by members of staff from King's College London.
