Records of the Middlesex Sessions of the Peace comprising extracts from minutes of the orders of court relating to County business. The extracts were first made in 1819 for the period 1716-1829. Only two entries were made between 1826 and 1829.

Bond discharging the parish of Clerkenwell to provide for the maintenance and upbringing of a child, 1596. Also letter explaining how documents in the parish chest of Saint James Church, Clerkenwell, were being given away ca.1898 to make room when church was being repaired.

This collection consists mainly of letters written to George Cruikshank and drafts of letters, memoranda and speeches by him, with a few rough drawings. Most of the papers relate to Cruikshank's activities as Lieutenant Colonel of the 48th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, and concern recruitment, muster rolls, discipline, drills, inspections, uniforms and arms.

*Official records, with papers of the Uxbridge Poor Law Union, Rural Sanitary Authority and Rural District Council, and of the Uxbridge Petty Sessions (members of the firm being clerks to these bodies) and also of the Harlington Tithe Commissioners, whose clerk was William Mercer, a solicitor with no apparent connection with the Woodbridge firm;

*Charity records, comprising account books, minutes, letter books, deeds and papers of the Lords in Trust of the Manor and borough of Uxbridge, later known as the Uxbridge United Charities;

• Administrative records of the firm including account books, salaries books and partnership agreements; and

• Practice papers, which themselves fall into several groups, namely, deeds of property of which the firm became mortgagee, Woodbridge family deeds and private papers, and clients' papers, by far the largest section. A large number of probates, letters of administration and unproved wills were preserved by the firm as a separate class. The rest of the clients' papers are preserved in separate personal or family groups (covering in many cases two or three generations); since many of the documents are title deeds, these bundles have been arranged according to the parish in which their property lay, although where a family owned property in more than one parish, the whole group has been listed under the parish in which the clients resided. An index of places is provided. Original bundling has been preserved although this has sometimes interfered with the logical arrangment. Where necessary for clarification, family trees have been included; although as accurate as possible these do not claim to be comprehensive.

The posters are full colour and are designed as postive and negative propaganda to aid recruitment and encourage donation to the war effort and were aimed at domestic civilian audiences. Highlights include posters referring to the sinking of the liner, the Lusitania, appeals to assist in the defence of Belgium, examples of alleged German atrocities, and representations of Britain, British families and the British way of life thought to be under threat.

Letters to McCarrison from his former assistants in Nilgiri District, Mula Singh and Krishnan, on the publication of the Festschrift, can be found in B.5. His interest in deficiency diseases was aroused by his observations of the distribution of goitre and cretinism in Gilgit, where he served from 1904, and the posters in Section A illustrate his observations and experiments on the effects of diet on metabolism. A list in B.1 includes some of the titles of the posters in section A, but also mentions others not found.

Ministry of Health 'Office guide to records of work carried out by Allan Chilcott Parsons 1919-1936' covering his visits, inspections, inquiries and interviews, mainly relating to cases of infectious diseases (particularly meningitis, diphtheria, encephalitis lethargica, scarlet fever and poliomyelitis) tropical diseases (such as malaria) and occupational diseases (such as Baker's Dermatitis) in England, appraisals of Sanitary Officers, and welfare of hop-pickers.

Minutes and connected papers of dental professional bodies: Incorporated Dental Society Head Council, 1942-1957; British Dental Association Representative Board, 1944-1951; Joint Advisory Dental Council, 1946-1947; and papers relating to Appeals under Regulation 18 of the National Health Service (Service Committee and Tribunal) Regulations, 1948 and 1956, 1948-1964. The papers cover the period just before, during and immediately after the introduction of the National Health Service and deal very largely with its impact on the dental profession. They consist of the minutes and circulated papers of the three bodies representing the profession, with which R G Torrens was associated (the three later amalgamated), with a little connected correspondence, and papers concerning appeals under Regulation 18 of the National Health Service (Service Committee and Tribunal) Regulations in which R G Torrens was involved (dealing with the legitimacy or otherwise of fees charged for treatment).
