The record covers memorials, metalwork, stonework, woodwork, textiles, paintings, library records, windows and tiling, clocks, musical instruments and lighting. It also includes a list of records (baptisms, marriages and burials) deposited at Lewisham Local History Library.

Records of the Bookshop Joint Action Committee, including correspondence between bookshops and to the Home Office; witness statements of attacks on the Bogle-L'Ouverture bookshop and notes written at the time of the incidents; letters of support from organisations and bookshops in Britain, America and the Caribbean; press cuttings and magazine articles about the events; letters, stickers and publicity materials sent to or left on shops by the National Front and the Ku Klux Klan (LMA/4462/J/01/009), and copies of photographs of damage done to the bookshops.

'Fourth Idea Bookshop' set up the 'Fascist Information Centre' to collect information about the attacks and to create a fund to assist the shops involved. A questionnaire was distributed to collate materials for a report and photocopies of documents are contained in the series. They aimed to compile a dossier of attacks and to start a security fund to assist with damage to bookshops.

Personal papers of Lionel and Pansy Jeffrey, political activists and race equality campaigners, including material from various organisations and committees including minutes, correspondence, brochures, newsletters, academic papers, draft speeches and reports.

The collection contains administrative papers of the New River Action Group, such as minutes, agendas and supporting papers, accounts and correspondence, as well as newsletters, photographs, promotional items, published books and articles, and maps and plans of the New River.

Records of rukus! Federation Limited, referred to by rukus! as the 'rukus! Black, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (BLGBT) cultural archive' consisting of collected diaries, letters, minutes and related papers, magazines, pamphlets, flyers, posters, journals, books, photographs and prints, audio-visual material, memorabilia and ephemera. Records relate to individuals including activists, DJs, club promoters, writers, artists and magazine publishers; community organisations; and subjects including sexual heath, black lesbians and women and night clubs.

The records cover mainly London-based individuals and activities where the largest proportion of the BLGBT community has been based in the United Kingdom, but also documents the community on national to international scale, for example with reference to initiatives in Nigeria in Africa and New York, United States of America.

The collection also includes the records of rukus! Federation Limited, dating from 2000-2010 (catalogue sub-section references LMA/4571/01 - LMA/4571/03) including foundation papers, minutes, campaign letters, event and project material including programmes, flyers, photographs, recordings and press coverage, and general publicity concerning the organisation. These records document rukus!' creation of the Black, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (BLGBT) cultural archive.

Included are records of 'Negro Twinz' Music Band and Black Review Publications Limited (both organisations based in Huddersfield, Yorkshire), and Ajamu Photographie Limited (Ajamu's photography business). Records include correspondence, recordings, photography event printed material and other papers.

• Topher Campbell, records dating from 1994-2010 (catalogue sub-section reference LMA/4571/05) concerning the films he produced under Gorgeous Films including 'The Homecoming: A Short Film About Ajamu' (1996), events relating to his theatre and film company The Red Room, his involvement in London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and other activities. Material includes flyers, audio-visual material, photographs and press articles.

Black, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (BLGBT) cultural archive' (LMA/4571/06) largely consist of collected material organised by rukus! and arranged by individual, organisation, subject or format. As well as collected items, this section includes further records of Ajamu documenting his involvement in wider community initiatives, and the records of the following individuals which were presented or donated by them to rukus!:

• Andrew Prince, records dating from 2002-2008 (series LMA/4571/06/01/14) consisting of flyers, magazine and newspaper articles mainly relating to Black Pride Festival organised by Outburst. • Dorothea Smartt, records dating from 1982-2008 (series LMA/4571/06/01/15) consisting of published books, poems, flyers, photographs and oral history workshop cassettes. These records (with the exception of two items under reference code LMA/4571/06/01/037, 039) were presented by Dorothea Smartt to rukus! Federation Limited as part of the rukus! archive project.

• Roy Thomas, records dating from 1983-1986 (series LMA/4571/06/01/17) consisting of his personal diaries with enclosed greeting cards from 'Carleton' (Ajamu), postcards, papers and photograph. Diary entries include personal daily thoughts and occurrences, his attendance at Huddersfield College, attending popular and gay events in northern England. These diaries were given to Ajamu by Roy Thomas and Ajamu presented them to rukus! Federation Limited as part of the rukus! archive project.

Records of Gerald Kremenstein, including committee and related records of the Harrow and Brent Lesbian and Gay Group collected by Gerald Kay as Committee member, and event material, the earliest items from 1971. These include flyers, tickets, badges and membership cards for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) London-based clubs, events and groups which Gerald Kay attended. Highlights include papers relating to the Jewish Gay and Lesbian Group (JGLG) and St Katharine's Group, and a visit to United States of America.

These records were catalogued under supervision of Richard Wiltshire, Senior Archivist by Zaida Tavares, volunteer as part of the Speakout London - Diversity City project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and based at London Metropolitan Archives.

Records of the British Anti-State Church Association, later known as the Society for the Liberation of Religion from State-Patronage and Control or the Liberation Society. Records include minutes of the Executive Committee and the Parliamentary Committee; reports and memoranda; annual reports; lists of members, officers and executive; correspondence relating to legacies; financial records; leases for offices; legal opinions; papers relating to burial grounds; copies of relevant Acts of Parliament; printed material such as publications, magazines, addresses, circulars and pamphlets; photographs; and press cuttings.

Minute books of the No 1 Cornhill Club, a professional association for insurers.

Illuminated vote of thanks from the Committee of the West Ham Park Preservation Fund to the Corporation of London, for a gift of £10,000 towards the purchase of West Ham Park.

Records of the London Labour Party, reflecting the activity of the central body of the Party, the executive committee, and its relation to the affiliated organisations. Records relating to individual parties are the central body's dealings with the parties rather than being the records of the individual parties themselves. There is much printed material, including a fine series of journals, especially the London Labour Chronicle (later, London News) from 1915-1964. The majority of the records are post World War II.

The collection contains minutes of the NUTC and the LUTC from their foundation to the 1950's. Files date from the 1940's to 1984. It also contains a minute book of the Sunday Closing Special Campaign Committee (SCSCC) which transferred its work to the NUTC in 1903 (this Committee may have been appointed by the NUTC). The secretary of the NUTC (and LUTC) also served as one of the two general secretaries on the SCSCC. A minute book of the Free Churches Pledge Signing Campaign Committee (FCPSCC) appears in the collection. This committee was dissolved in 1911. Representatives of the NUTC and LUTC attended meetings which were held in Memorial Hall, Farringdon Street, and in 1911 the secretary of the NUTC and LUTC was also secretary of the FCPSCC.

A minute book of the Society of Cogers appears in the collection probably because an NUTC member, H. Weightman (later NUTC secretary and treasurer), was acting secretary of the society c.1919.

The recording of financial income and expenditure into ledgers was not always done. A number of blank ledgers deposited suggest the aim of entering such information, but it was never achieved. An almost complete set of audited, annual summary accounts from 1911 to 1975 provide the bulk of information on finance.

Records of James Raisin, Labour Party agent, consisting mainly of Organisers' reports on Labour party meetings and events in both the London District from 1946-1969 and the Northern Home Counties Region from 1958-1969.

Records of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, 1760-2002. The archive is central to the history of the modern Jewish community in Britain. It covers virtually every facet of Jewish life in Britain in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - assimiliation, education, political emancipation, Shechita, anti-Semitism. The archive is particularly interesting on the conditions of Jewry outside the UK - there is a lot of information, for example, on the rise of fascism in mainland Europe in the 1930s and the Holocaust.

Records of the Business Equipment Trade Association (BETA) and related organisations. The collection includes a complete run of 27 volumes of council minutes, from July 1951 to December 1980. The minutes reflect the association's preoccupation with its role as a public relations body, and with issues affecting its membership, such as VAT or decimalisation. Issues discussed reflect the changing commercial climate, illustrating the increased use of microelectronic technology, although individual products are seldom mentioned unless they are the subject of a dispute. Considerable time is also given over to general internal and administrative matters, and to the continued examination of BETA's aims and activities. Two divisional minute books provide a taste of the activities of the association's sections. Council working papers and correspondence include duplicate minutes of council meetings, reports to council on executive committee meetings, press cuttings, and correspondence relating to association luncheons. A sample of the association's journal is also included.

Papers of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF), 1970-1979, comprising: Material created by the London GLF, 1970-[1976], notably Diaries, 1971-1974; accounts and financial reports, 1973-1974; notes and papers on GLF meetings, including the Steering Committee and the General Meeting, 1971-1972; copies of GLF newspapers and journals, including Come Together, 1971, Gay International News, 1970s and Gay News, 1972-1974; GLF newsletters, [1971-1974]; papers on various subjects, mainly relating to gaining gay rights through activism, 1971-[1975]; flyers and tickets for GLF events, [1971-1975], including Gay Pride, dances and discos, Christmas parties, and concerts. Papers of local Gay Liberation Front groups, 1970-1979, mainly comprising newsletters, leaflets, flyers and tickets for events, stickers, and articles on gay rights and legal reform, as well as some administrative materials such as accounts and reports on accommodation. Material created by the Gay Liberation Front Youth Group, 1974, namely a flier for a protest march against the age of consent for homosexual men. Material relating to the Festival of Light, [1971-1975], mainly concerning the disinformation campaign by the GLF. Miscellaneous GLF material, [1970-1979], including tickets for events, leaflets, details of campaigns, GLF publications, badges, photographs of GLF demonstrations and stickers.

The papers include the London Blues club's constitution, minutes, annual reports, financial records, newsletters, correspondence and material relating to the European Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs and the Federation of United Kingdom Clubs, 1978-2002.

Papers collated by Christine Murray, 1972-1980, relating to women's involvement in the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE) and women's organisations in the 1970s, notably correspondence with CHE, 1972-1976, relating to participation in CHE by women members and other women's groups in the UK and Switzerland; material relating to women's organisations in the UK and Australia, 1972-1980, notably lesbian groups.

Papers of C J Hunt, Treasurer of the (2nd) Social Credit Party, 1919-1980, including papers relating to the party, the Company of Free Men, the Social Credit Association, and the Social Credit Political League.

Papers of PROGRESS Campaign for Research into Human Reproduction, c1985-c1994, comprise minutes, subject files and correspondence relating to PROGRESS' campaign against the Powell Bill and for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill.

Papers of the Society of Labour Lawyers, mainly dating 1949-1979, including: Annual reports and accounts. Minutes of Annual General Meetings and Executive Committee meetings. Rules of the Society. Newsletters and circulars. Membership records. Papers regarding conferences and other Society events. Subject files on topics such as racial discrimination, illegitimacy, homosexuality and abortion. Subject files relating to reform of the justice system, such as: improving access to the law (provision of legal aid and advice); criminal procedure; and, ending capital punishment. The subject files include correspondence, memoranda, sub-committee papers and evidence to government inquiries and Royal Commissions. Correspondence with members of the Society, MPs and others, including Gerald Gardiner (Lord Chancellor, 1964-70) and Samuel Silkin (Attorney General, 1974-79). Correspondence of the Society's Honorary Secretaries, Jean Graham Hall and Conrad Ascher.

Records of the Ealing North Divisional/Constituency Labour Party, including attendance books, annual reports, accounts and subject files on election campaigns. Though these files are mainly concerned with finance, many also include campaign material. Also ward/branch material. Each ward or branch had its own committee. Of particular interest are the early minute books of Northolt Labour Party.

Records relating to Clapham Labour Party. The collection includes minutes of Clapham Labour Party's executive committee and general management committee as well as information on borough and LCC elections. The correspondence referring to Dr MacGregor Reid (President of the Clapham Labour Party in 1926, d 1946), his alleged attack on other Labour and Socialist Parties and ensuing enquiry is especially engaging. However, the records also mention the Battersea Division and contain correspondence of the London Labour Party and national Labour Party. Of particular note are the official Labour Party posters reflecting policy on topics such as farming, coal strikes and the family and its publications about issues such as refugees, Soviet wartime policy and Palestinians in Israel.

Records of the Ramblers Association. This collection consists of administrative and publicity material relating to the national and local activities of the association, including minutes, financial material, details of the routes of well-known walks, press cuttings and press releases. It also contains subject files produced by the main Ramblers Association offices on the various campaigns and sites of interest with which the association has been involved. Separate deposits were also received of material generated from the offices of the Director of the association, the Assistant Director of the Access section and the Countryside Secretary of the Southern Area.

Papers of the London Branch of the Anti Apartheid Movement. The records are wide ranging and include minutes, reports, memoranda and correspondence, as well as publications and more ephemeral material documenting the many events and demonstrations organised by the movement. Although the collection relates specifically to the local and regional groups for the London area, the papers are equally concerned with the wider business of the movement, at both the national and international levels. Records of the Annual General Meetings, the National Committee and the Executive Committee are held as well as material from the London Committee and papers of local anti apartheid groups. The papers of David Kenvyn, chairperson of the London Committee and secretary of Redbridge Apartheid Group, reflect the regional and local activities of the movement, while papers from related organisations illustrate the extent to which the movement worked in partnership with other bodies.

Records of the Victorian Society. The collection principally contains case files compiled by the Society's Buildings Sub-Committee and relating to individual buildings for which listed building consent or statutory listing was sought. Remaining items comprise lists of members and a small selection of early printed items about the Society and its activities.

The case-files provide contextual information regarding the discussions and decisions of the Victorian Society over individual buildings. They contain useful information for researching conservation and planning issues surrounding these buildings. Their primary value however is in recording the workings of the Society itself and the personalities and opinions of its members. With the records of English Heritage (also held at London Metropolitan Archives), local planning authorities, and other voluntary bodies (such as the Georgian Group, Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, and the Twentieth Century Society), this collection could help compile a comprehensive study into building conservation in England and Wales in the second half of the 20th century generally.

The case-file series is incomplete (some files have been destroyed while others have been retained by the Society) and other principal records of the Society, such as minutes of the Council and of the Buildings Sub-Committee and issues of The Victorian magazine have not been deposited. The membership lists contain personal information about members and access to these files is restricted.

Although based in London, the Society acted in the interest of buildings throughout Great Britain. There are a few instances where buildings overseas where also drawn to the Society's attention. The Society was not solely concerned with the exterior of buildings. It attributed importance to interior decoration and furnishings, and to commemorative monuments and street furniture erected broadly within the Victorian and Edwardian periods.

The collection is rich in information about the Society. As well as recording the Society's cause celbres it also includes a large number of smaller Buildings and structures. It covers the Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge at one end of the scale and street lamps in Cambridge and fonts in churches at the other.

Records of Greater Access to Publishing, including minutes of meetings, funding applications, conference planning notes, and packs. Also press cutting from The Bookseller about the organisation and letterhead.
