Verdict and judgement in an appeal in a Nazi war crimes euthanasia trial against Eugen Schmidt and Helen Schürg, OLG Frankfurt am Main, Ss 92/47, 1947. This copy trial document shows the verdict, sentence and trial judgement in a 'Euthanasia Case' appeal against Dr Walter Eugen Schmidt and Helen Schürg, OLG Frankfurt am Main 12.8.1947 Ss 92/47. They were originally found guilty of multiple murder and accessories to multiple murder respectively at the Eichberg nursing home, Hessen, between 1941 and 1945, along with several other defendants at a trial at the LG Frankfurt am Main, 21 Dec 1946-, No. 4 Kls 15/46. The appeal court upheld the verdicts and in the case of Schmidt raised the sentence from life imprisonment to death.

Papers of the Actresses' Franchise League including annual reports 1909-1914; annual statements of accounts; leaflets including lists of officers and league's objects and list of members and programme.

The archive consists of diaries, photographs of work with Scottish Women's Hospitals, Bowerman's passport with portrait photograph, and personal correspondence (1909-1948), mainly with her mother during (1910-1911) and during her time with the Scottish Women's Hospitals unit in Romania and Russia (1916-1917) during the First World War.

The archive consists of personal papers mainly relating to training and work as a medical social worker (hospital almoner) 1920s-1950s, and correspondence relating to historical family documents and her aunt Rose Squire. It includes correspondence, a London School of Economics Social Work exam paper (1927), lecture notes on the subject of health and hospital social work, and two photographs of Rose Squire.

The archive consists of diaries, correspondence, photographs and memorabilia relating to Holme's activities as a suffragette; her work with the Women's Volunteer Reserve and the Scottish Women's Hospital Unit during the First World War; her visits to and relief work in Serbia / Yugoslavia; and her personal life and friendships. Many items across the collection relate to her girlfriend Evelina Haverfield.

Papers concerning Jewish war orphans, 1947-1949, consists of case papers relating to the fate of Dutch Jewish foster children whose parents died during the Holocaust. Eleven cases are represented here, out of a total of 1363.

The archives comprise of the administrative records of the College and its predecessor bodies from 1841. The archive also includes personal and asylum records donated by former prominent Members and Fellows of the College, and some printed material in the form of booklets containing histories of mental hospitals, reports of Commissioners in Lunacy, reports on London County Asylums and Parliamentary Papers on Mental Health. Specifically, the records include:

Foundation Papers: Papers of the Association of Medical Officers of Asylums and Hospitals for the Insane (the first predecessor body of the College); Circulars received by Dr Jones of Chester announcing the preliminary meeting of the Association, with minutes of the preliminary, first and second meetings, 1841 and 1842. Announcements of Association meetings in the 1850s and 1860s; report of the Special Committee to consider the Government's Bills for the Amendment of the Laws relating to the Care and Treatment of the Insane, 1859.

Minutes and related papers: on the foundation of the Association of Medical Officers of Asylums and Hospitals for the Insane, 1841 and minutes of meetings, 1841-54, excluding 1845, 1846, 1848, 1849 and 1853 when there were no meetings. Annual meeting minutes have been abstracted onto a Meetings Database. The database can be accessed from the College Library online catalogue. There are no manuscript minutes after 1854 as the Journal of Mental Science was started in that year and the minutes printed in the journal became the official record. Financial information contained in the minutes was also considered the official record and there are no separate financial papers.

Administrative papers, correspondence and circulars: of The Medico-Psychological Association 1870s-[1920], including a few papers on nursing and other examinations, asylum officers superannuation, insanity as grounds for divorce, letters of congratulation, meeting programmes and abstracts, dinner invitations, and menus.

Council minutes, 1887-November 1971: with a few supporting papers, e.g. agenda. An acting sub-committee (also referred to as the managing committee) was appointed at the 1856 annual meeting and there are references to council meetings in the 1860s but no minutes before 1887 have been found. There are some omissions after 1887, especially in the early years but it is not clear if this was because there was no meeting or because no minutes were taken. Council minutes 1887-1971 have been abstracted onto the Meetings Database.

Mental Nursing Papers

The Nursing Certificates: The Certificate of Proficiency in Mental Nursing was founded at the Medico-Psychological Association Annual Meeting in 1890 and until 1921 was the only recognised qualification in mental nursing. A separate certificate in Mental Deficiency Nursing was instituted in 1919 and a short-lived Occupational Therapy Certificate was introduced in 1939. After negotiations with the General Nursing Council, the examinations for these certificates were discontinued, the last being held in 1951.

Video cassette tapes accumulated by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland, relating to the history of anaesthesia in the 20th century. The tapes, made between 1982-2000, with the original films dating from 1916 to 1998, include some compilations, and comprise some black and white and silent material but focus predominantly on the latter part of the period. The subjects cover various anaesthetic drugs, equipment and techniques, and related subjects including midwifery, dentistry, paediatrics, emergency medicine, resuscitation, artificial respiration and intensive care, and the locations include various hospitals, and military situations. A series of oral history interviews feature eminent anaesthetists talking about their work. Some of the videos were made for conferences or training purposes, and some relate to the Association of Anaesthetists itself, including a video of the opening ceremony of no 9 Bedford Square.

Photographic material accumulated by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland (AAGBI), relating both to the history of the AAGBI and to the wider history of anaesthesia and associated subjects from 1774 to 1997, largely comprising prints and slides, both colour and black and white, some undated, including some copies. Society of Apothecaries of London: Prizemen in Botany and in Materia Medica and Pharmaceutical Chemistry collection, 1830-1894, comprises records relating to the two prizes offered to male medical students by the Society of Apothecaries and include various registers detailing entrants and prizewinners, press notices, the Clerk Robert Brotherson Upton's letter to the Royal College of Physicians regarding Willam Wyon's design for the Galen Medal and his letter to Joseph Hooker at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew requesting his assistance in editing a press notice and Hooker's reply, 1862, prizewinners' bookplates (blank) and copies of examination papers, 1893 and 1894.

Society of Apothecaries of London: Galen Medal collection, 1925 to date, comprises papers relating to the Galen Medal awarded by the Society of Apothecaries. The papers include those concerning the history of the award, correspondence with the Royal Mint, reports of the Medal Committee, correspondence regarding nominations, correspondence with recipients who include Walter Ernest Dixon, Alexander Fleming, Howard Florey and Ernst Chain, autograph book of recipients, 1985 to date, and records of presentation dinners, 1990s.

The collection covers the work of the NNAH from its founding c 2000 up to its closure in 2007. It includes the institutional archives of the National Network for Arts in Health (NNAH) and the Baron Archive of Health Care Arts (c 1980-2000). The resources collected by both organisations include files on art, drama and music projects in the health service supported by Art in Hospitals and the NNAH, together with a library of 150 books, 4,500 reports and pamphlets and other research materials assembled as a resource for education and research.

Personal papers of medical and other staff at Great Ormond Street hospital, comprising GOS/11/1 Dr Charles West, including cases seen at the Waterloo Dispensary prior to his Great Ormond Street career, circa 1841-1859; his notebook on Gynaecology, and maternal conditions liable to affect childbirth, from circa 1841, photographs, press cuttings, correspondence, and printed circulars and reports relating to Dr West's dispute with the Committee of Management about aspects of the Hospital's administration, 1877-1878. GOS/11/1/11 includes letters and photographs of Dr West and his family, largely donated by Dr Peter West. And the manuscript text of R Clavering's notes on Dr West and the establishment of the Hospital, 1956.

GOS/11/6/1 is the presentation book to Sir Arthur Lucas on his retirement as Chairman of the Board of Governors, 1921, signed by Governors and senior clinical staff; GOS/11/7 /1 is correspondence and a copy Trust Deed for the Alexander Simpson-Smith Memorial Lectureship, 1947, including correspondence with Margaret Simpson-Smith about the Lectureship, 1957.
