Papers on works by Asma'u's female relatives and descendants include copies of poems and writings by various authors (c1860-1934 and undated) and later papers relating to the subject, c1950-1990. Papers, 1903-1992, including articles, reports and press cuttings, on Sokoto relate to geological history, prehistory, palaeontology, archaeology, pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history, the subjects including the social and economic history of the city of Sokoto, colonial administration, British fears over Mahdism, and local government and economic issues in Sokoto state in modern Nigeria.

Three volumes contain over 500 postcards, many in colour, relating to Nigeria, including images of people, cultural events, various places, and other aspects of Nigerian life [late 20th century].

Issues of the Invalids Magazine Album. This fascinating set of 'scrap albums' are the survivors of a set that was seemingly created over a period of 10 years or more from the beginning of the 1900's to the start of the First World War. It is difficult to do these albums justice in describing them, as they are a treasure trove of charm and innocence. They not only contain articles handwritten by the contributors, but occasional newspaper cuttings and photographs of domestic scenes, landscapes, foreign holidays, and watercolour paintings of flowers, landscapes and 'designs'.

The earliest volumes contain simple stories in melodramatic style, and exhortations by the editors to send in contributions on time. As the contributors grow up we can see the paintings improve, the stories and articles become more considered and the photographs become art rather than snapshots. The later volumes contain articles about the war which had just been declared, photographs of recruitment and a list of some dozen members of the I.M.A. who were then 'in uniform'. As an editorial note put it "...the most terrible war of all times has swooped down down upon us...".

These questionnaires are all labelled 'part IV' and therefore possibly constitute a sample of the original research data collated.

Records of the Metropolitan Committee for War Savings, comprising a minute book of the Committee, 1917-1918. The book had first been used (reversed) to record details of the war savings situation (local committee, local activities, facilities available, etc.) in 60 districts, one by one, in alphabetical order, in the metropolitan area, some as far afield as Barking and Kingston. The last seven entries, at the end of the alphabet, are covered by the later minutes of the executive committee (pasted in), running across them from the other end of the book.

The meetings recorded in the minutes were held at the Mansion House and the Lord Mayor was normally in the chair. Attendance at the first two meetings was large and included a number of mayors and a sprinkling of senior council officers. Attendance at the executive committee meetings was usually nine or ten. It appears that this is the only main minute book of this body. It does not, however, contain the minutes of its various sub-committees and ancillary committees.

Notes by John Dixon on medical matters and on things of personal interest to him such as astrology and photography spanning his entire career, 1848-1903. MS.5191 comprises more formal material, namely certificates and indentures.

The collection centres on tropical medicine. MSS.3521-3522 consist of general notes on tropical medicine and on museums of tropical medicine; MS.3523 consists of an interleaved copy of Megaw's The first laws of health, considerably expanded.

Holograph manuscripts of publications by Joseph von Schneller, notes, and some material by other persons collected by von Schneller, 1837-1885.

Lecture notes, case notes and abstracts of printed works compiled by Lyon Falkener in various professional positions, 1861-1948: most importantly as locum tenens at Claybury Asylum and the Western Fever Hospital, Fulham, and as Assistant House Surgeon at the Metropolitan Hospital, London. A few personal items, largely testimonials and photographs supplement these, together with medical papers by Falkener. Falkener's later career as a general practitioner at Icart, Guernsey, is represented by a collection of his prescriptions.

Research notes and drafts relating to two major works by Fraser-Harris. MSS.8109-8112, 8114-8120 and 8122 relate to the history of antisepsis and the essay 'Antiseptics before Lister: a historico-medical survey', which was the Prize Essay in the History of Medicine, University of Glasgow, 1932/3. MSS.8236-8255 and 8968-8989 relate to The History and Lore of Cymric Medicine, a proposed Wellcome Historical Medical Museum study that was never published. Wellcome and Fraser-Harris died close to one another and the momentum of the project was lost.

Papers of Christine Murrell, mainly family, estate and personal, c 1849-1935, including wills of Dr Murrell's relatives, professional testimonials, papers about her book , Womanhood and Health. The bulk consists of family papers - as an only child and grandchild Dr Murrell had a perhaps unusual amount to do with family wills and estates, but there is a little material which reflects her distinguished medical career. Also the family and legal material includes some correspondence with, and reference to, medical colleagues.

The collection covers Lord Moran's life and career. It includes papers (committee minutes, correspondence, notes, printed material, ephemera, articles, parliamentary papers, etc.) re his position as Dean of St Mary's Hospital Medical School, 1920-1945; as President at the Royal College of Physicians, 1941-1950; his role in negotiations over the establishment and structure of the NHS, 1942-1960; as Chairman of the Awards Committee, 1948-1962. His other professional activities are covered in general correspondence files; a series of medical records, including material on Winston Churchill, 1944-1965; subject files relating to his role on various government, educational and medical bodies, including the commission to determine whether Rudolph Hess was mentally fit to stand trial in 1945. The collection includes drafts and papers re Anatomy of Courage (including photocopies of his World War I army notebooks), and Winston Churchill: Struggle for Survival. There is also a section of unpublished writings and speeches, 1921-1970. Papers consulted by Professor Lovell in Australia while writing his biography of Lord Moran, were returned in two batches, the first in April 1990, when he helped with the initial sorting and listing of the papers, and the second in April 1991. Some of these papers have been returned to the main body of the collection, however most have been kept in a separate section in the list (section L). The collection also contains personal and family material, photographs, press cuttings and ephemera, and a section comprising personal and professional papers of Lord Moran's wife Dorothy, Lady Moran (d.1983).

Papers of Sir Ernest Kennaway, 1899-1957. Most of the items in this collection appear to relate to the later years of Sir Ernest's career. The collection chiefly comprises notebooks on medical issues such as substance-related illnesses and occupational diseases (chiefly cancers) plus a little material on religious issues.

Papers of Reverend Thomas Brooke Clarke. They refer to Dr Clarke's appointment, to the renting of a house in Greenwich, the building of an asylum house, to glebe land of Pinner and produce of Harrow. There are also a series of letters from his son at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, 1812 to 1814, and some from George Fitzernest while at Magdalen College, Oxford.

The papers in this collection comprise official documentation issued by the authorities in New Spain (specifically, in Mexico). They include the appointment of José Gracida y Bernal (1760?-1815) as one of the Protomedicatos who were in charge of medical matters in New Spain (WMS/Amer.96); three certificates issued by Protomedicatos giving individuals licence to practice medicine (WMS/Amer.51, 64 and 97); a copy of a notice suspending quarantine procedures in the city of Mexico during the fever epidemic of 1813 (WMS/Amer.3); and a order authorising payment to F.X. de Balmis (1753-1819) for work on indigenous plants in the treatment of syphilis (WMS/Amer.62).

Collections of reprints, 1891-1945, on topics including basal metabolism, temperature, radiation, hygiene, thermal adjustment and barometric pressure. These reprints were collected by Sir Charles Martin, although very little of the reprints were written by him. Many of the files contain manuscript notes by Martin, usually on other articles. Some of the reprints have been annotated.
