Manuscript volume containing transcripts of papers and tables mainly relating to the work of the Royal Mint in the second quarter of the eighteenth century, [1740-1748], notably a copy of the Mint Charter of 24 Apr 1662, with a translation into English, and of the indenture of 23 Aug 1732 appointing John Conduitt as Master of the Mint, with a schedule of salaries; copies of the papers of Sir Isaac Newton and John Conduitt relating to the Trial of the Pyx, [1717 and 1734]; copy papers, some official, relating to the Assay and Trial of the Pyx in 1734 and 1740; copy papers on various, including Portuguese money, the process of making money from imported ingotts, and copper coinage; tables of monies coined under Richard Arundell, Master of the Mint, between 1737 and 1743; tables of gold and silver minted annually from 1660-1740; orders of 1729, 1732 and 1738 allowing the Master of the Mint to import Irish copper; tables showing the weight and fineness of gold and silver coins minted from the time of King Edward I, with names of successive Masters of the Mint. Manuscript volume containing a treatise by Sir James William Morrison, First Clerk and Deputy Master of the Royal Mint, entitled 'Memoirs and observations on the melting and casting of silver for the coinage at his Majesty's Mint', 1807. The manuscript discusses previous techniques in melting, especially experiments made by his father James Morrison, Deputy Master of the Mint from 1787-1799, based on his papers, and his own experiments made with the help of Robert Mushet, Third Clerk to the Master of the Mint, and Robert Bingley, the Assay Master (1798-1836). There are some pencil notes in the margin.

Contemporary copy of a treatise, 1603, by Sir Richard Martin, Master of the Royal Mint, on matters relating to the Royal Mint and solutions to the problems of coinage at the beginning of the reign of King James I. With a dedicatory epistle to King James I. Martin's Indentures for the coining of new monies, which are largely quoted in this treatise, were renewed by James I on 21 May 1603.

Manuscript volume containing a copy of an indenture ratifying and confirming the appointment of Thomas Neale to the office of Master and Worker of the Mint, 23 Jul 1686, with a table of the fees and salaries of the officers of the Royal Mint in the Tower of London. Thomas Neale was appointed Master and Worker of the Mint by King Charles II in 1678, and continued in office under King James II and King William III until about Jan 1699. His name appears on several medals of William III.

Manuscript volume containing a treatise by John Sharp, Archbishop of York, on English coins and their history, 1697, containing chapters on silver and gold coins, Scots and Irish money, and a commentary on the treatment of coinage in William Nicolson's The English historical library (London, 1696-1699). Marginal notes state that Nicolson had requested Sharp's opinion on his book before its publication, and the whole of this manuscript appears to have been known to Nicolson before he began writing The English historical library. The references to pages in Nicholson's book given in Sharp's notes refer apparently to Nicholson's manuscript copy.

The correspondence, papers and diaries of Sir Charles Blagden. Blagden's papers are interesting on several levels, generally for his close contact with European men of learning, and his relationship with Sir Joseph Banks. Blagden's professional researches are represented by medical notes in the boxed sequence. These are grouped with papers on other subject interests, including linguistics, e.g. a draft Tahitian-English dictionary, compiled from conversations with Omai, whom Blagden inoculated after Omai's voyage to England with James Cook. Blagden's interest in antiquities and travel is documented by diary entries, as is his intercourse with fellow scientists, particularly those associated with the founding of the Royal Institution.

Papers on missions in Madagascar, 1864-1971 (some undated), largely dating from the mid-20th century, possibly collected by Margaret Burke and including some of her own papers, comprising various printed articles, typescripts, manuscript papers, and correspondence, on evangelistic and educational missionary work by the London Missionary Society and Friends Service Council (including its predecessor the Friends Foreign Mission Association) and on local customs, including undated photographs [1920s] of missionaries, indigenous inhabitants and local scenes.

The photographs in this collection cover areas of Peri's work between 1920 and 1966. They include images of his early constructivist work, bronze figurines, cement sculptures and pictures of the artist at work. The drawings and sketches are mainly of people in a variety of simple poses, but are all undated. The correspondence refers to possible commissions for the London County Council, 1958 and an exhibition of his work at St. Pancras Public Library, 1963.

The Constance Howard Resource and Research Centre in Textiles contains archives, Materials Collections and a library related to textiles and to the development of textile art. Collections include the archives of the Goldsmiths Textile course 1948-2009, 13, 000 slides of the work of graduates, alumni and staff of the course, teaching notes of the founding team, Constance Howard MBE, Barbara Dawson and Christine Risley. The Materials Collections include items from Constance Howard's personal collection of embroidery and costume; textile samples, a collection of techno-fabric samples from Nuno in Japan; and over 3,000 textiles donated or commissioned for the Centre. Archives include the records of textile artists and groups influenced by the Goldsmiths Textiles course, including the '62 Group' and the 'Fibre Art Group', [1962-2000], both groups of professional textile artists formed to raise the profile of textile art. These archives include slides, photographs, newsletters, correspondence, accounts, reviews and committee minutes. There are over 5,000 books and pamphlets in the specialised library which includes Constance Howard's book collection, and is strong in materials on textiles published in Eastern Europe in the later 20th century.

Papers of Albert Lancaster Lloyd, 1953-[1982], comprising materials relating to traditional folk music from around the world, especially Eastern Europe, notably newspaper cuttings, photographs, typescript notes, drafts of articles, diaries, notebooks, broadcast scripts and texts of lectures on subjects including:
English folk music, including erotic songs, ballads, carols, London songs, Morris dancers, North-East songs and poetry.
Romanian folk music, [1955-1973], including notes on subjects including costume, customs, instruments, proverbs, social life and topography, as well as a large number of photographs depicting native song and dance.
Hungarian folk music, [1946-1970s], including notes on subjects such as art, custom, dance, history and instruments.
Bulgarian folk music, [1954-1960s], including papers, correspondence and photographs on costume, dance, recorded music, and topography.
American folk music, [1949-1967], including materials on cowboys, blues and jazz, spirituals, work songs and vagrants.
Industrial song, [1950s-1970s], including miners, textile workers, political songs, and American work songs.
The collection also includes material on Chinese and Australian traditional music.

A substantial collection on cinema compiled by Deac Rossell, consisting of a collection of published books, pamphlets and ephemera and a collection of manuscripts. The print collection is wholly international in scope, containing predominantly post-1950 material, including many reference works, on the history of motion pictures. The collection has both diversity and depth. There are significant holdings on several topics, including animated films, documentary, studio histories, British cinema, Asian cinemas, Indian cinema, Arab cinema and black films and filmmaking of all types including African-American cinema and African national cinemas. Within these thematic groups, the few English-language histories or director studies are mostly present, sometimes backed up with substantial works in other languages; a feature of most of these themes are monographs on individual filmmakers from small publishers and/or unusual sources. There is also a group of film festival catalogues from the 1980s and 1990s, where there are often significant essays on national cinemas or current productions which have never been published in book form - such as the excellent writing on Hong Kong films and filmmakers from the elaborate catalogues published by the film festival in that city. Extensive filmographies can be found in the collection of directories and festival programmes from around the world. There are more than 850 books in total and around 1,000 pamphlets and programmes. There is a collection of posters included and also 10 manuscripts, including that of Deac Rossell’s work 'Living pictures: origins of the movies', 1996.

Microfilm of papers from the Nationalsozialistische DeutscheArbeiterpartei (NSDAP) Hauptarchiv, comprising material relating to the history of the NSDAP, in particular the years 1919-1933 (material back to 1890 was collected to encompass the political and ideological forerunners of Nazism, including material on other 'Voelkisch' movements and the Deutsche Demokratische Partei); material on Hitler including personal papers and correspondence of the family; reports from old party militants particularly relating to the attempted coup, 9 Nov 1923; the literary estates of some prominent old party members including Anton Drexler and Dietrich Eckhardt; papers on Nazi organisations and affiliated groups, particularly pre 1933; material on the organisation of the 'Reichsparteitage'; correspondence from Germans all over the world during the mid 1930s; private archive of Abt Schachleiter, a prominent Nazi and Catholic Church dignitary; files from the Munich police and the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior relating to the NSDAP but also other 'voelkisch' groups.

The Collection includes minute books; scrap books containing press cuttings, exhibition invitations and leaflets; prospectuses; and items relating to exhibitions and fashion shows.

The Women's Library continues to document the development of feminism in the UK, and examples of '3rd wave' activity can be found within our Zine Collection. The Zine Collection began with a donation of 50 zines by Ladyfest London in 2002. This Collection comprises self-published magazines reflecting contemporary feminism and the attitudes and concerns of young women in the UK today. It currently includes over 150 indexed zines on topics ranging from music, feminism, art, fashion, food, politics, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, popular culture, travelling, relationships, parenting and much more. The Women's Library aims to collect and preserve women's zines from the 1970s to the present day.
