Record of the Peckham Building Investment Company comprising deed of settlement, 4 May 1846, for John Tricker Conquest of Finsbury Square and Henry England of New Cross, to form joint stock company 'The Peckham Building Investment Company'. The deed records the name and business of company, names of subscribers, and of directors and officers, duration of company and mode of dissolution; with signatures and addresses of shareholders, and note of number of shares held by each.

Although the period covered is 1891-1969, the high commmencing folio in volume one (foliating through successive volumes was common stationers' practice in the nineteenth century) suggests that there may have been an earlier volume which has not survived. Details range from the size of coffin in the first volume to comprehensive coverage of names, addresses, ages, where died, where service held, where buried or cremated, grave nos, cost etc. in the third. The first consists of records dealing with the administration of the company, and includes day books and clerks' time books; the second section deals with the financial records of the firm.

The third, and largest, section is concerned with clients' administration. Records in this section include lists of clients' papers held or returned by the firm, and registers recording probate, insurance, property transactions and periodical payments made to a third party on behalf of the client.

The archives consist almost entirely of business and partnership correspondence of A.G. Wentworth Gray between 1856 and 1906. They therefore include some private and family material. The firm dealt in a wide variety of goods and cargoes. The records contain references to, inter alia: beef, pork, cocoa, flour, sugar, limes, molasses, rice and timber.
