This collection deals with a law suit brought by the Osram company, against a former employee, Ernst Schaefer, before the Reichsverwaltungsgericht, Berlin, 1941. The gist of the ruling is that in light of a new law affecting Jewish World War One veterans (29 December 1938) the firm was justified in terminating a previous agreement in which Schaefer was to receive a pension and other benefits.

Covering letters addressed to the Wiener Library, a copy of the court's finding and Ernst Schaefer's comments. Included are four copies of the above documentation.

Copies of correspondence to and from Julius Kühl, 1935-1982, chiefly relating to the plight of Jews in Nazi occupied Europe. Many organisations and individuals are represented notably the The Hilfsverein für jüdische Flüchtlinge im Shanghai (Aid organisation for Jewish refugees in Shanghai)(HIJEFS) although several other Jewish refugee organisations are also represented, namely Agudas Jisroel, Schweizerischer Israelitischer Gemeindebund and Va'ad Hahatsala. The majority deal with the fate of Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe. In particular they document attempts to rescue individuals, families and larger groups by channelling funds and securing visas for that purpose. The provision of food parcels to concentration camp inmates is also reported. In addition the tensions which sometimes arose between the different refugee organisations are reflected here.

The diaries and personal papers of George Francis Jack Bergmann, dated 1919-1981, notably comprise a set of typescript transcripts of diaries which document in detail Bergmann's experiences in the Foreign Legion and in prison. They also provide a full report on the infamous trial of French officers and guards at Hadjerat M'Guil. In addition there are newsletters, bulletins and correspondence, 1919-1981, which reflect Bergmann's interest in, and membership of, a Jewish student organisation, 'Kartellverband jüdischer Studenten'.

Fritz Goldschmidt's diaries and eyewitness testimony collection comprises diaries, 1933-1939 (617/1) and a typescript personal account entitled 'Mein Leben in Deutschland vor und nach dem 30 Januar 1933', undated (617/2).

Papers of Myer Jack Landa, 1900-1945, including papers relating to Jewish organisations including the Jewish Association of Arts and Sciences, the Jewish Fund for Soviet Russia, the Refugee Industries Committee and the Israel Delivered from Bondage Society; correspondence, 3 Sep 1943-27 Feb 1945 and newspaper and journal articles, chiefly reviews of books with a Jewish theme, some of them by Landa, 1900-1943.

Copies of the papers of Lisbeth Sokal-Wieselberg, 1948-1978, documenting the fate of her parents, Viennese Jews, who perished in the Holocaust, and her attempts to claim compensation, including declarations of death of Max and Nanette Schein from the district court in Vienna, Feb 1948 and letter from the regional government with enclosures of the courts' decisions on compensation, 1960-1978.

Chiefly comprising birth and death certificates, permits and travel documents. Including Martha Cohen's identity card with the conspicuous letter 'J' on the cover denoting Jew and which bears the additional information that she was 'evacuated' from Berlin on 16 Dec 1942; order from the Amtsgericht, Berlin, that Martha Cohen must adopt the forename 'Sara' to identify her as a Jew, 11 Jan 1939; order stamped by the Gestapo that Martha Cohen must leave Germany, 1 Oct 1942 and an inventory of the possessions of Sally Baer, prior to his transportation to Theresienstadt.

Mrs Ben Courts personal papers, 1938-1946, comprise correspondence mostly from friends and family members in Germany to Mrs Ben Courts 1938-1946, (629/1), much of this material is immediately pre war and relates to requests by unidentifiable individuals for sponsorship to settle in England; Central Office for Refugees Domestic Bureau printed material including terms and conditions and registration information, 1939 (629/2) and biographical notes on Mrs Ben Courts by her son Hugh Courts, [1938-1946] (629/3).
