The training of Salvation Army Officers began in 1879, but was based in various locations and training homes, and known under varying names. It became established in Denmark Hill in 1929, and (as of 2013) is still at this location. It was known as the William Booth Memorial Training College, but as of 2000, is known as William Booth College.

This collection is the complete records of all Salvation Army training from 1879, with the first records here dated from 1883 until the present day. As training before 1929 was not centralised and under different names, it has been regarded for the purposes of this catalogue that these are still 'William Booth College' records under a different name.

Due to the original order and context of the collection not surviving, the records have been arranged in a logical structure and not one which relays the original functions/departments of the college.

The College records are only a part of the English Provincial Archive of the Society of the Sacred Heart, which contains a large collection of archival material relating to convents, colleges and training schools founded by the Society. There is a large collection of photographs relating to all of the above, as well as historical material relating to the Roehampton area, [1724-1995], mainly relating to buildings owned and including plans, deeds, and specifications relating to 'Roehampton House' (now Queen Mary's Hospital) and 'Parkstead' (now Manresa House); historical material relating to Wimbledon and Putney.

Papers of Margherita Rendal relating to two research projects, namely:'Graduate Administration in Local Education Authorities', 1965-1968, including material relating to project administration; correspondence and memoranda; interim and final reports; sample questionnaires; information about the survey program used to analyse the data; coding lists; sample punch cards. Also included is a file of correspondence and papers relating to The Committee on the Management and Staffing of Local Government (the Mallaby Committee), 1965. 'Survey for UNESCO of Courses and Research in Political Science, Law and Related Disciplines Concerned with the Role and Status of Women', 1979-1982, mainly comprising a series of individual folders for over seventy different countries or regions containing published and unpublished material relating to women's studies and the women's movement in each area; correspondence with local contacts in educational institutions and women's organisations; some answers to a questionnaire; and research summaries. Records of the United Synagogue's own Board of Jewish Religious Education, as well as the London Board of Jewish Religious Education and its predecessor the Jewish Religious Education Board, and other bodies such as the Union of Hebrew and Religious Classes, the Jewish Association for the Diffusion of Religious Knowledge, the Jewish Memorial Council, the Central Council for Jewish Religious Education and the Jewish Voluntary Schools Association. Also records of individual schools and institutions such as the Jews Free School, Jewish Infant Schools, Westminster Jews Free School, Ilford Jewish Primary School and Michael Sobell Sinai School. Records of the Jewish Memorial Council, 1899-2001. The archive mainly consists of files and volumes of minutes and working papers. The records of the Reverend Malcolm Weisman are noteworthy for the detail they provide on the survival of Judaism in small, often isolated, communities.

Records of the Westminster Jews Free School, 1846-1950. This is a short series of records and consists of minutes and financial accounts. The minutes date from 1846 and include the first minute book of the Jewish Girls Free School (1846-1853) which contains lists of pupils and letters.

Records of the Union of Liberal and Progressive Synagogues (ULPS), dealing mainly with the creation of the new version of the prayer book Service of the Heart which was published in 1995. Rabbi John Rayner edited the new edition with Rabbi Chaim Stern as co-editor. Rabbi Julia Neuberger chaired the anthology committee. As well as aiming to combine general Jewish tradition with Progressive Jewish thought the editors wished to respond to changes in Jewish outlook in the late twentieth century. The use of language, in particular gender sensitivity, was carefully examined.

Extensive family correspondence includes letters written home by Chambers when he was a student at UCL, and wartime letters from France and Belgium in 1916-1917. Also includes a small but valuable collection concerned with the study of Sir Thomas More.
