Almost all papers relate to George Meering's experience in World War One. They comprise typewritten contemporary accounts of his war experience and as prisoner held by the Turkish, correspondence (including letter from General Edmund Allenby), newspaper articles, photographs of regiment and nurses, dinner invitation, medals and other memorabilia.

Records of the County Treasurer for the Middlesex Quarter Sessions, 1737-1900. No proper county accounts have survived for Middlesex before 1739, although the series MF which includes them up to 1900 does have record of transactions back to 1737; MF/L are accounts of the reclamation of subsistence paid to families of men serving in the Middlesex militia from outside the county (1779 - 1861); MF/T are records of annuities (or tontines) sold to raise a loan to build a new house of correction (1790-1888); MF/V are accounts concerned with the removal and subsistence of vagrants (1740-1864); MF/A covers the maintenance of lunatics and asylums (1828-1889); and MF/X are watch repairs accounts (1838).

Records of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators, 1929-1974, including Court minute books; minute books of the General Purposes Committee; minutes of the Instructors Committee Panel of Examiners; minutes and reports of the Grading Committee; minutes of the the Airline Pilot and Navigation Committee (renamed Technical Committee in Oct 1963) and minutes of the Aviation Training Committee.

Records of the Corporation of Trinity House, including: copies of charters, grants and patents; Court minutes; Board minutes and agendas; minutes of various committees; financial records including ledgers, journals, cash books, salaries; correspondence; administrative files; letters patent to collect tolls; papers relating to lighthouses including committee minutes and inspection books; notices to mariners; reports by Michael Faraday and other scientists regarding improvements to lighthouses; war diaries detailing damages to beacons and buoys; papers relating to pilotage including committee minutes, pilot's registers and examinations in pilotage; reports on collisions; papers relating to management of estates and charity work; lists of elder and younger brethren; photographs; and papers relating to the Royal Trinity House Volunteer Corps.

In the mid 19th century, the Corporation of Trinity House replaced minutes of committees with "agendas". These "agendas" are not agenda papers with a list of items for discussion. They are stripped down minutes which record those elder brethren attending the committee meeting, items coming to committee, the decisions taken and further action, if any, required. They do not record any of the committee's discussions.

The papers have suffered from fire in 1666 and 1714 and from bombing in 1940. Though the court minutes survive from 1660, many other series of records only survive from the nineteenth century. Because of the many ways in which the Corporation of Trinity House has touched on British maritime life, the records which survive are still very rich and extremely varied.

There is a thirty year closure rule on the Trinity House archive and researchers must ask the Corporation for permission to consult any records less than thirty years old.

Lighthouse plans have not been deposited, although LMA holds copy catalogues of the plans which are still held by the Corporation of Trinity House (CLC/526/MS30131A, available on the library shelves in the LMA Information Area). Records of the Inns of Court and City Yeomanry including orders, attestations books, circulars, minutes, muster rolls, correspondence and other papers. Where an item or series continues for some years, it may well bear more than one of the Regiment's titles. Some miscellaneous papers relating to the Regiment's history as a whole are placed near the end of the second sequence (Mss 17799-804). A few incidental items relating to earlier volunteer regiments are placed at the beginning of the first and second sequences. Notes relating to the early origins and history of the Regiment can be found in Ms 17804.

Records of the City of London Territorial and Auxiliary Forces Association comprising: minute books, 1908-68 (Ms 12606-14); papers relating to the establishment, constitution and membership of the association, 1907-54 (Ms 12615); annual reports, 1947-55 (Ms 12616), balance sheets, 1951-1954 (Ms 12617); and correspondence, orders and other papers, 1945-1967 (Ms 12618-26). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1968.

Records of the London Rifle Brigade, comprising registers of subscriptions, minutes, financial records, newsletters and other papers. The records were catalogued at various dates from 1955 by Guildhall Library staff.

Records of the 49th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, later the 24th (Post Office) Rifle Volunteers, comprising: regimental orders, 1870-1871 (Ms 09408), and muster roll books, 1870-1909 (Ms 09409).

The records comprise: account book, 1871-9 (Ms 09410A), and general fund ledger, 1883-5, and signed enrolments, 1885-8 (Ms 09410B). It is not known whether any other records survive of this Militia.

Records of the Royal Air Force Training Corps, Squadron No 1282 (City of London). The records comprise: Civilian Committee minute book, 1941-7 (Ms 14387); attendance book, 1941-7 (Ms 14388); welfare papers, 1941-55 (Ms 14389); and scrapbook, 1941-6 (Ms 14390). They were catalogued by Guildhall Library staff in 1972.

The documents relate to varied subjects including Parliamentary elections and proceedings; taxation including tax assessments, tax agents and accounts; military commissions; the Tower of London; excise; military orders; passwords issued by royalty; bankruptcies; militia; licences; warrants; petitions; and patents.

Papers of Charles Cox and Son, marine agents, comprising eight volumes of letters from Royal Navy and Royal Marine personnel concerning pay and other financial matters.

Papers of the Rycaut, Shorediche and Churchward families, including histories of the families; family letters; despatches and notices; press cuttings; historical notes on Ickenham church; papers and photographs relating to Ickenham manor house; and papers of Paul Rycaut Stanbury Churchward relating to his military service in South Africa and India.

Records deposited with the Clerk of the Peace for the Middlesex Quarter Sessions, comprising a parochial list of the poll for the County of Middlesex at the General Election 1802; printed in 1803 with minor handwritten additions, including the signature of Edward Knight, former owner.

Records of the Daubeney family of Isleworth, including official papers and correspondence relating to the military career of Sir Charles Henry Barnston Daubeney; pedigrees and genealogical notes; and notes and illustrations concerning family history, heraldry and property.

Personnel records for the Middlesex Home Guard, including nominal rolls, registers of cadets, registers of names, lists of active members, history sheets, discharges and transfers.

(f) H.M. prison (Feltham) Home Guard Unit, a sub-unit of "B" Company. 1st Middlesex Home Guard. (Transferred to "B" Company on 2 December 1942).

(g) General Aircraft Ltd., (Feltham), a sub-unit of "D" Company, 1st Middlesex Home Guard. (Later became 9th MX. (HG) Bn.)

(h) 2nd Home Guard.

These records contain a wealth of information, not merely number, rank, and name, but personal details, hitherto unrecorded. Information includes:- (a) Full name and address. (b) Profession, and/or place of employment. (c) National Registration Identity Number. (d) Details of previous service in the forces, (Rank, Branch etc.) (e) Next of Kin. (f) Whether owner of a Car/Cycle, or any motor vehicle. (g) Telephone Number (Home or business). (h) Age, (or date of birth). (i) Promotion in Home Guard. (j) Transfers (Regular Forces; Inter-unit; etc.) (k) Discharges (through death, or other causes). (l) Religion. (m) Resignations, (pressure of work, etc.) Other information includes, results of proficiency tests reports upon non-commissioned officers; strength states; returns of small arms; personal history sheets; lists of category, men, etc.

• Letter from John Meryett at Hampton to Mr Ware, Scotland Yard, Westminster, 1746, regarding the King's River.

• Letter from the Marquess of Tichfield [Lord Lieutenant of Middlesex] to the Rt. Hon. William Windham [Secretary at War], 1796, concerning the identity of Whitfield Harvey, an ensign in the Westminster Regiment. Col Cawthorne suspects that the present holder of the commission is an imposter.

• Sworn statement by Thomas Meyer, made before R Ford at Bow Street, 1802, stating that from the examination of John Devlin, in custody at Liverpool, and the description of a hat in his possession, he believes the hat to be that worn by John Cole Steele when he was murdered, and that John Devlin is connected with the crime.

• Letter from W Budd to the magistrates of the Police Office, Bow Street, enclosing handbills [missing] giving a description of a former dragoon suspected of the murder of Mr George Sergeant.

• Letter from the Duke of Portland [Lord Lieutenant of Middlesex] to Viscount Melbourne, 1831, informing him that no accurate estimate of the numbers who "may be likely to join their colours" for militia exercise can be given from the numbers of those enrolled in the County of Middlesex, except in the case of country parishes.

Appointment of James Whiskin to be one of the Deputy Lieutenants of the Tower Hamlets and Liberties thereof, by Arthur, Duke of Wellington, Lord Lieutenant of the same and Constable of the Tower.

The records in this collection relate to the Imperial Yeomanry School from 1904 to 3 March 1931 and to the subsequent Imperial Benevolent Fund for 4 August 1931-12 December 1934. They comprise administrative and financial records, including admission registers and log books. From the names in the admission registers it can be seen that boys had not been admitted by 4 September 1925. The addresses in the register show that although the school was in Middlesex, entrance was not limited to those who lived in Middlesex.
