Papers, 1903-1992, including articles, reports and press cuttings, on Sokoto relate to geological history, prehistory, palaeontology, archaeology, pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial history, the subjects including the social and economic history of the city of Sokoto, colonial administration, British fears over Mahdism, and local government and economic issues in Sokoto state in modern Nigeria.

Three volumes contain over 500 postcards, many in colour, relating to Nigeria, including images of people, cultural events, various places, and other aspects of Nigerian life [late 20th century].

Papers, c1910-1983, of Abraham Nahum Stencl, relating to his life and work and to modern Yiddish literature, and comprising papers relating to his life, 1934-1978, including letters received from his family, photographs, press cuttings relating to his life and work, and personal documents; manuscript and printed writings, 1930-1980, in verse and prose, including some autobiographical and works on literature; papers, 1918-1983, largely dating from the 1940s and after, relating to Loshn un Lebn and the Friends of Yiddish circle, other friends and acquaintances, Jewish organisations, and Stencl's involvement in literary events, comprising letters received and other papers, including works by other authors, of over 200 correspondents, some of them annotated by Stencl; ephemera, c1910-1982, accumulated by Stencl, including postcards, membership cards, receipts, tickets, greeting cards, circulars, advertisements, and flyers.

Papers, 1977-1988, relating to the Club de Dakar, comprising correspondence, research papers and publications. Includes lists of members; press cuttings; conference and discussion papers; minutes of meetings; reports; accounts and publications.

Records of Hornsey Parochial Charities, including Chair's minutes and agendas; Trustees minutes; reports; financial accounts; property registers; rent demands; charity schemes; conveyances; gifts and legacies; correspondence; valuations of investments, and other administrative papers.

The collection contains minutes of the NUTC and the LUTC from their foundation to the 1950's. Files date from the 1940's to 1984. It also contains a minute book of the Sunday Closing Special Campaign Committee (SCSCC) which transferred its work to the NUTC in 1903 (this Committee may have been appointed by the NUTC). The secretary of the NUTC (and LUTC) also served as one of the two general secretaries on the SCSCC. A minute book of the Free Churches Pledge Signing Campaign Committee (FCPSCC) appears in the collection. This committee was dissolved in 1911. Representatives of the NUTC and LUTC attended meetings which were held in Memorial Hall, Farringdon Street, and in 1911 the secretary of the NUTC and LUTC was also secretary of the FCPSCC.

A minute book of the Society of Cogers appears in the collection probably because an NUTC member, H. Weightman (later NUTC secretary and treasurer), was acting secretary of the society c.1919.

The recording of financial income and expenditure into ledgers was not always done. A number of blank ledgers deposited suggest the aim of entering such information, but it was never achieved. An almost complete set of audited, annual summary accounts from 1911 to 1975 provide the bulk of information on finance.

Notes (handwritten) relating to a housing loan scheme proposed by the Church Benefit Society, including draft of charges and sample correspondence. Includes prospectuses and advertising pamphlets from existing building societies, presumably gathered for research, including the Prudential Assurance Company Limited, the Temperance Permanent Building Society, the Bradford Second Equitable Benefit Building Society, the Abbey Road Building Society and the Hearts of Oak Benefit Society.

Records of the Association of Jewish Friendship Clubs, consisting of administrative and financial records (including minutes, enquiries and reports) for the association itself, and for specific areas and clubs. Also correspondence files for individual clubs, both overseas and in Britain.

A further deposit included an extensive run of office files regarding both the administration of the AJFC and relations with affiliated clubs; a large number of photographs of AJFC events such as a handicrafts exhibition, talent competitions, holidays, celebrations and meetings; copies of the "Friendship Club Magazine"; circular letters; club programmes; press cuttings; obituaries and club badges.

Records of the London Head Teachers Association, formerly the School Board for London Head Teachers Association, including Minute Books; Attendance Registers; Year Books/Diaries; Handbooks; Calendars; Publications; Reports; Programmes and Tickets and Personal Papers.

The records illustrate the varied activities of the LHTA and includes a good selection of Minute Books for Council and other committees. There is also a fine series of SBLHTA and LHTA Yearbooks and handbooks which include a full list of London Schools with names of head teachers.

Records of other activities are also included, for example, menus and programmes for social functions and guides to the Annual Exhibition at Westminster Central Hall. There is a small amount of material relating to Miss Louisa La Teller Swann, LHTA president 1928-9.

Correspondence of Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler, 1868-1901. A small number of records survive from around 1868 for the Chief Rabbinate of Nathan Adler and more from the late 1870s onwards - around the time Hermann Adler began to undertake many of his father's duties for him. The records consist of bundles of letters to the Chief Rabbi from communal organisations and individuals in Britain and overseas.

Records of the Federation of Synagogues, 1887 - 1988. The records include a comprehensive set of minutes of the Federation; a less comprehensive but nonetheless interesting collection of minute books from the individual congregations; and minutes of other institutions connected with the Federation. There are also financial accounts, reports, property files (including synagogue plans), notice books and correspondence files which give a fuller picture of life of the Federation; and records of the East London Mikvah Committee; Federation Burial Society and London Talmud Torah Council.

Records of the London Teachers Association, including General Committee minutes; annual reports; Officers Meeting minutes and Finance and General Purposes Committee meeting minutes.

Records of the Middlesex Secondary Teachers Association, comprising Executive Committee meeting minutes and Annual General Meeting minutes.

Records of the Teachers Provident Society, Chiswick Branch, comprising minutes of meetings and records of members dues and benefit payments.

Records of the National Union of Teachers, comprising London Members Committee minutes and Extra-Metropolitan Committee and Middlesex Sub-Committee minutes.

Records of the School Mistresses and Governesses Benevolent Institution. This collection contains records relating to the administration of the Institution which provide a comprehensive resource for researching the history of the Institution: its functions, buildings and achievements. For example, the records include a complete set of minutes for the Board of Management for 1843-1979, and a richly evocative set of secretary's letter books for 1846-1849.

The collection also contains records of the individuals that benefited from the accommodation, annuities and temporary assistance offered by the Institution. These records are of use to family historians or for those researching the social history of governesses, women teachers at independent schools, charities, and the care of aged women. They include, for instance, a set of candidate lists which record the personal circumstances of retired or needy governesses applying for annuities for 1924-1938.

Although based in London and Kent, the Institution assisted British governesses throughout the UK and Europe. There are a few instances where governesses stationed further afield were also assisted.

Records of the African Caribbean and Minorities 2000 Cooperative. This material consists of a draft letter introducing the idea for a cooperative and a list of invited persons.

Records of the Tower Hill Improvement Trust, including minutes, accounts, correspondence, plans and photographs. The archive includes records of other organisations (Choral Foundation Appeal, St Katharine's Community Project, Port of London Authority) which may have become part of the Trust's archive because the Secretary or another official of the Trust also had an active role in other organisations.

Brent Black Music History and NARM (Naming and Role Models) Heritage Lottery Funded projects published booklets and DVD recordings (the latter are available by prior appointment). Also African Histories Revisited's published 'Race/Racism Primer' (2014).

The collection comprises administrative records, including: minutes, agenda and reports for meetings of the Society's General Committee (1884-1915), trustees (1915-1990), House/Western Lodge Committee (1920-1961), Executive and Finance Committee (1915-1925) and Western Asylum Sub-Committee (1843-1848); annual reports and accounts; trust deeds for the Society's funds and property; staff agreements and contracts; secretaries' letter books and correspondence files; 19th century papers and correspondence relating to the administration of the society, premises, bequests and staff; subject files on the administration of the Society, events, finance, fundraising, premises, staff and the history of the Society; and visitor books.

Records relating to residents at Western Lodge and the Society's other Asylums, including: censuses of admission; admission papers; admission and resident registers; reports on residents; index cards; rules and regulations; and menu books.

Financial records for the Society, including: balance sheets and accounts; a ledger used to compile the accounts; notes on the accounts; ledgers; audit books; cash books; donation books; board and lodging receipt books; returns of monies received and paid by the Superintendent; and a set of accounts paid by the Finance Committee in the 1820s and 1830s.

Property records including deeds, tenancy agreements and inventories of Western Lodge.

Records of the Swiss Benevolent Society including statutes and regulations, annual reports, minutes, membership records, registers and case files of grant recipients, financial records including legacies, property records relating to the Society's offices and Hendon Cemetery grave plots, printed material and publications. The collection also contains records of related Swiss charity organisations.
