Records of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy (also known as The Charity for the Relief of Poor Widows and Children of Clergymen), including letters patent; minutes; agendas; administrative papers; letter books; papers of associatied charities; schemes and proposals; publicity; cases for legal counsel; financial accounts; subscriptions, donations and bequests; papers relating to the management of estates; and reference books.

These archives of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy were deposited in the London County Record Office on condition that all records for the past 100 years which contain reference to beneficiaries shall be regarded as confidential. Searchers who wish to consult such categories of record should first obtain the consent of the Registrar to the Corporation (Corporation House, 6 Woburn Square, London, W.C.1). Other categories of record and all records more than 100 years old are available for searchers without any special restrictions.

Minute book of the Association for Employment of the Destitute and Truant Poor. The minute book, A/EDT/1, appears to be the first of a series from the remainder of which it has been divorced. From the papers, A/EDT/3-5, addressed to or written by E.C. Bellamy, the Secretary of the Association, it seems that his resignation was accepted in January 1869, but that he did not return the volume (and possibly others) to the Association as requested.

Records of the Foundling Hospital. The collection consists of over 800 linear feet of shelving, an estimated 8 tons of paper, and over 1000 plans. The completeness of the collection is particularly noteworthy. The officers of the Hospital from the very beginning were extremely meticulous in record keeping and detailed documents survive which record the lives of the children, the way in which the Hospital operated, the methods of nursing, the prescriptions of the apothecary, the reports of the inspectors, the extraordinary accounts of women's lives, and the involvement of leading figures of the day in actively supporting the charity.

Records of the Elizabeth Newcomen School, Southwark, including minutes of the Governors of the Schools; admission registers; papers concerning Mrs Newcomen's will and a subsequent legal case between the Wardens of St. Saviour's and her godson, Thomas Lant; and the administration of the property which forms the endowment of the charity.

Records of the Pentonville Charity School, comprising minute book of Committee meetings; report and notes on the school and ticket for coal.

Records of the Bethnal Green Poor Lands Trust including deeds of title; appointments of new trustees; leases and counterpart leases; minutes of the trustees; orders of the Charity Commissioners; accounts; correspondence and case papers; records of pensioners and printed copies of the 1690 foundation deed.

Records of the London Council for the Promotion of Public Morality, later known as the Public Morality Council. Scarcely any of the early records survive, the earliest useful series being the annual reports, 1901-1913 and 1932-1954. Minutes of the council and its sub-committees cover 1940-1965.

Records include constitution of the Council; Council and committees minutes and papers; membership lists for the council and committees; annual reports; papers relating to annual public meetings and Hyde Park meetings; paper relating to conferences and talks; general correspondence; financial accounts; records relating to links with other societies, both national and international; PMC publications and related magazines, films and other publications.

Papers of Rotherhithe Charity School, comprising vouchers, subscription lists, and financial accounts of the Treasurer and Schoolmaster.

From these documents it would appear that subscriptions were collected and the schoolmaster's accounts submitted quarterly, and the treasurer's account made up from these and other documents half-yearly. Though some of the vouchers relate to the schoolmaster's accounts, others presumably belong to treasurer's accounts no longer extant; all have been placed in quarterly bundles, since conclusive evidence on the original arrangement is lacking.

Records of charity The Ranyard Mission and Ranyard Nurses, comprising Council minutes; Finance Committee minutes; Executive Committee minutes; registers of nurses; annual reports; correspondence; booklets, pamphlets and magazines; accounts of the Mission; speeches; photographs; badges; and papers relating to Special Funds.

Records of the Society for the Relief of Persons Confined for Small Debts, including minutes; extracts of proceedings; Acts of Parliament; papers concerning J C Neild; financial accounts including legacy books, income books, general expenditure books, annual accounts and auditor's reports; papers regarding the disposal of surplus funds; bequests; press cuttings; correspondence; and histories of the Society.

The minutes contain reports of visits of inspection as well as names and numbers of prisoners assisted. A number of the papers relate to the destruction of the book containing the minutes and accounts of the Society 4 Mar 1818 to 5 Apr 1826 by John Camden Neild, treasurer 1814-1827.

Records of the Society for Checking the Abuses of Public Advertising (SCAPA), including Executive Committee minute books; financial accounts; lists of members; correspondence, including letters relating to subscriptions, byelaws, cases and litter; petitions; annual reports; publications by SCAPA and others; newspaper cuttings and posters.

Records of the Surrey Dispensary, Southwark, including rules and regulations; minutes of the Governing Committee; minutes of the Court and Committees; House Visitor's books; subscription books; registers of patients admitted; registers of patients visited at home; annual reports; leases; correspondence files; financial accounts and insurance policies.

Records of the Spitalfields Great Synagogue, 1714-1922. The collection consists of deeds which trace the ownership and tenancies of the former synagogue from 1714 to the early twentieth century.

Records of Saint Mary, Newington Church of England School including minutes of the committee of management; Foundation managers' declaration book; annual reports and statements of account; financial records; letter books; reports of visits to the school; correspondence relating mainly to school inspections, school maintenance, nominations for school gifts, appointments of staff, and finance; correspondence relating to school property; admission registers; log books; plans of the school; drawings and photographs.
