Lodz Ghetto authoritiesRecords of James Lock and Company including series of day books (1781-1969, with gaps) and order books (1805-1998, with gaps). There were always two order books in use at any one time, one in the shop and one in the office, and as a result the dates overlap in many volumes. There is also a series of rough order books, called waste books (1798-1819), and special order books series for ladies' hats, for hunting wear and foreign and export orders. There are product statistics for 20th century. Very few product drawings, or fabric samples are included (for samples for special orders 1995-1998 see B/LK/422).
All these series contain similar elements of information, namely the customer's name and address, description of hat ordered and the total cost.
The collection also contains financial records, including ledgers, cash books, customer accounts and bad debts which summarise outstanding payments due from customers; staff salaries (1927-1954) (B/LK/619) and R Lincoln's executors account (B/LK/254).

The collection consists of records which demonstrate the administrative running of the Fund. These include minutes of all main committees, papers of the Pension Manager, annual reports and accounts, member ledgers, individual scheme reports, actuarial valuations of the Fund and schemes, and Fund publicity material.
Lloyd's Superannuation Fund Pension Management LtdSurvey reports and plans of ships surveyed by Lloyd's, [1833-1945], including the survey reports made between ca.1833 and 1900 at the British home ports and those made before 1900 at foreign ports where a Lloyd's surveyor was employed. These are arranged by port of survey. Plans begin to appear in c 1870 and may include midship sections, profile and boiler and engine arrangements. Later deposits include the survey reports and wreck reports of vessels lost between 1901 and ca.1945. These reports include the first survey reports, subsequent reports which covered important changes and alterations together with any plans, and a final report where the vessel was lost or declassified. Many of the vessels included in this section were lost during the Second World War. A further quantity of records, of vessels lost or declassified between c 1945 and c 1964 is in the process of being transferred from Lloyd's Register of Shipping. The information given in the reports includes the name of the vessel, when, where and by whom built; dimensions, tonnage, date and place of survey and date and place of registry. Details of the type and dimensions of the timbers, fastenings, masts, yards, sails, rigging, anchors, cables, fittings, etc are also given. For an iron or steel vessel, details are included on the specifications and names of the manufacturer of the frames and plating and for a steam vessel there are separate survey reports for the engines, boilers and machinery giving a description and specifications and the name of the manufacturer. Finally there are general remarks including comments on the quality of the material and workmanship and an opinion as to the class to which the vessel should be assigned.

The majority of the collection dates from 1771, with deeds 1585-1949, and includes minutes of the Committee, of the Council and of general meetings; letter books; subscription books; loss and casualty books; war casualty books; deeds and other papers relating to the offices on the corner of Lime Street and Leadenhall Street; and papers relating to the Lloyd's Medal for Saving Life at Sea, the Lloyd's Medal for Meritorious Service and the Lloyd's War Medal for Bravery at Sea.
Also in the collection are the Captain's Registers. These list certificates of competency awarded to men intending to be masters or mates of foreign going merchant ships; and form a directory of qualifed personnel, 1869-1947. The registers include destinations and casualies such as sinking or collisions. For detailed information about the registers please see the sub-fond entry Marine Records, CLC/B/148/B.
Also in the collection are papers relating to signal stations, including reports, legal agreements, histories and register of ships passing North Shields station. The signal stations were operated by Lloyds both in the UK and abroad. They gave notice of vessels in distress, noted the weather, and reported all passing vessels that gave their name to the station. This latter meant ships could be tracked and made Lloyds the recognised clearing house for global shipping intelligence.

Petition from the Watermen on the Thames to Oliver, Lord Protector, and the Privy Council. The petition is on behalf of the watermen and many hundreds of poor men complaining that the ballast officers are preventing watermen and many others who gain a living thereby from providing river ballast for ships. It further alleges that the ballast engines used by the ballast officers are harmful to the river. The document includes circa 700 names, roughly half of which are signatures and the other half are names and marks (of illiterate men). The petition is not dated but it can be dated between 1653 and 1658 as it is addressed to the Lord Protector.
