Records of the Elizabeth Newcomen School, Southwark, including minutes of the Governors of the Schools; admission registers; papers concerning Mrs Newcomen's will and a subsequent legal case between the Wardens of St. Saviour's and her godson, Thomas Lant; and the administration of the property which forms the endowment of the charity.

Records of the Pentonville Charity School, comprising minute book of Committee meetings; report and notes on the school and ticket for coal.

Records of the Bethnal Green Poor Lands Trust including deeds of title; appointments of new trustees; leases and counterpart leases; minutes of the trustees; orders of the Charity Commissioners; accounts; correspondence and case papers; records of pensioners and printed copies of the 1690 foundation deed.

Papers of Rotherhithe Charity School, comprising vouchers, subscription lists, and financial accounts of the Treasurer and Schoolmaster.

From these documents it would appear that subscriptions were collected and the schoolmaster's accounts submitted quarterly, and the treasurer's account made up from these and other documents half-yearly. Though some of the vouchers relate to the schoolmaster's accounts, others presumably belong to treasurer's accounts no longer extant; all have been placed in quarterly bundles, since conclusive evidence on the original arrangement is lacking.

Records of charity The Ranyard Mission and Ranyard Nurses, comprising Council minutes; Finance Committee minutes; Executive Committee minutes; registers of nurses; annual reports; correspondence; booklets, pamphlets and magazines; accounts of the Mission; speeches; photographs; badges; and papers relating to Special Funds.

Records of the Royal Standard Benefit Society, including Committee and Trustees meeting minutes; notices of forthcoming meetings; registers of members; example of a certificate of the freedom of the Society; and financial accounts.

Records of the Society for the Relief of Persons Confined for Small Debts, including minutes; extracts of proceedings; Acts of Parliament; papers concerning J C Neild; financial accounts including legacy books, income books, general expenditure books, annual accounts and auditor's reports; papers regarding the disposal of surplus funds; bequests; press cuttings; correspondence; and histories of the Society.

The minutes contain reports of visits of inspection as well as names and numbers of prisoners assisted. A number of the papers relate to the destruction of the book containing the minutes and accounts of the Society 4 Mar 1818 to 5 Apr 1826 by John Camden Neild, treasurer 1814-1827.

Records of the County of London Territorial Army and Air Force Association. The collection comprises minutes, accounts and transcripts of association meetings and general purpose committee meetings.

Records of Toynbee Hall university settlement, including Education Committee minutes; Residents Meetings minutes; correspondence; annual reports; financial reports; memorandum and articles of association; educational syllabuses and evening courses; papers of clubs and societies; visitors' books; press cuttings; magazines; pamphlets; plans; photographs and slides.

Records of the Time and Talents Association, also known as the Time and Talents Guild. This collection dates mainly from 1903 to the 1950's although it does include annual reports up to 1977. The records relate to the activities of the original London branch of Time and Talents. Reports from other branches can be found in issues of Time and Talents News (A/TT/140-151). The Review and the Time and Talents Newsletter were both suspended during the war and replaced by a printed newsletter from Nov. 1939 (A/TT/203-216).

Records include minutes of the Executive committee, Council, Association committee and Settlement management committee (known as war emergency committee 1939-1943); correspondence and papers relating to the Bermondsey settlement; minutes of the Matfield Court Committee; photographs of the Matfield Court Rest Home (also known as Bermondsey Rest Home); minutes and papers of the Thatched cottage committee; deeds relating to premises in Bermondsey and Dockhead; annual reports and accounts; publications, publicity material, scrapbooks and memorabilia.

Records of the Drax Charity of Little Stanmore, comprising minute book of the trustees of the charity and account books.

An Account of the General Nursery or Colledg of Infants set up by the Justices of the Peace for the County of Middlesex containing a list of rules and regulations, proposals for education and extracts from orders of Sessions concerning establishment, published 1686.

Also photocopy of the presentment of the Grand Jury for Middlesex approving the work of the General Nursery, with extracts from orders of Sessions concerning refusal of St. Clement's Danes parish to participate in scheme, and general remarks on benefits of such an establishment.

Circular from the "Society for Erecting and Maintaining A Building in the Metropolis For the Meeting of Religious, Charitable, and Scientific Institutions", including plans of the proposed building between Exeter Street and the Strand [later called Exeter Hall, 272 Strand], 1829 and copy of the Ninth Annual Report of the Society For Erecting and Maintaining A Building Called Exeter Hall For the Meeting of Religious, Charitable and Scientific Institutions, 1834.

Copy of the report of the London and Greenwich Railway, read at the first General Half Yearly Meeting of the Proprietors held at the London Tavern, Bishopsgate Street, on 9 February 1841.

Records of the Royal Choral Society. The archive is divided into seven sections: administrative records, including a series of individual concert files; financial records; membership records, which include attendance registers and audition files; concert records and programmes; publicity records including posters and newspaper cuttings; files of printed musical scores, arranged by piece, and including programmes for concerts featuring the work; miscellaneous records, which comprise information and programmes relating to other choirs, magazines of the society, or which include articles on the society or choral singing in general, and photographs of choir members, soloists and conductors.

Highlights of the collection include a comprehensive, although not complete, series of concert programmes from 1873-1985, including the programme for the last concert to be held in the Queen's Hall before its destruction during World War II. There are also manuscript copies of "Eryri" by Alun Hoddinott. This piece was composed for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969 and the collection has a copy both of the original score, for 16 soloists, chorus and orchestra, and the revised version for baritone solo, chorus and orchestra.

The collection contains minutes of the NUTC and the LUTC from their foundation to the 1950's. Files date from the 1940's to 1984. It also contains a minute book of the Sunday Closing Special Campaign Committee (SCSCC) which transferred its work to the NUTC in 1903 (this Committee may have been appointed by the NUTC). The secretary of the NUTC (and LUTC) also served as one of the two general secretaries on the SCSCC. A minute book of the Free Churches Pledge Signing Campaign Committee (FCPSCC) appears in the collection. This committee was dissolved in 1911. Representatives of the NUTC and LUTC attended meetings which were held in Memorial Hall, Farringdon Street, and in 1911 the secretary of the NUTC and LUTC was also secretary of the FCPSCC.

A minute book of the Society of Cogers appears in the collection probably because an NUTC member, H. Weightman (later NUTC secretary and treasurer), was acting secretary of the society c.1919.

The recording of financial income and expenditure into ledgers was not always done. A number of blank ledgers deposited suggest the aim of entering such information, but it was never achieved. An almost complete set of audited, annual summary accounts from 1911 to 1975 provide the bulk of information on finance.

Minute books, peal books, annual reports and newsletters of the Middlesex County Association; leaflets and minutes of the Middlesex Association of Change Ringers and minutes, attendance books, financial accounts and administrative papers of the South and West District, including some papers of Percy Venn; and minutes and financial accounts of the North and East District.

Issues of Spot-on, the magazine of the Hillingdon Branch of the National Association of Local Government Officers (NALGO).

Records of the Surrey Tabernacle Benefit Society, including Management Committee minutes; subscriptions and benefits books; sick pay books; audited accounts; register of deaths; correspondence; and death benefit nominations.

Notes (handwritten) relating to a housing loan scheme proposed by the Church Benefit Society, including draft of charges and sample correspondence. Includes prospectuses and advertising pamphlets from existing building societies, presumably gathered for research, including the Prudential Assurance Company Limited, the Temperance Permanent Building Society, the Bradford Second Equitable Benefit Building Society, the Abbey Road Building Society and the Hearts of Oak Benefit Society.

Minute book of the London Magistrates' Clerks' Association, comprising minutes of annual general and committee meetings, with enclosures.

Year books of the West London Rifles (4th Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps), giving details of parades, drills, and camps. Also copy of the will of Mrs Harriet Urquhart, wife of William Urquhart of 111 Riversdale Road, Highbury.

Records of the Tailors Benevolent Institution. Despite a few gaps in the minute books, the most regrettable being the absence of the first minute book, the records give a clear picture of the development of a trade benevolent enterprise. The gaps are in part compensated for by the survival of accounts and cash books from the foundation of the institution and by a diary for 1837 belonging probably to the first secretary. The records are in good condition.

Minute book of the War Refugees Committee, a charity aiding First World War refugees.

Records of the Business Equipment Trade Association (BETA) and related organisations. The collection includes a complete run of 27 volumes of council minutes, from July 1951 to December 1980. The minutes reflect the association's preoccupation with its role as a public relations body, and with issues affecting its membership, such as VAT or decimalisation. Issues discussed reflect the changing commercial climate, illustrating the increased use of microelectronic technology, although individual products are seldom mentioned unless they are the subject of a dispute. Considerable time is also given over to general internal and administrative matters, and to the continued examination of BETA's aims and activities. Two divisional minute books provide a taste of the activities of the association's sections. Council working papers and correspondence include duplicate minutes of council meetings, reports to council on executive committee meetings, press cuttings, and correspondence relating to association luncheons. A sample of the association's journal is also included.

Records of the Central British Fund for World Jewish Relief, predecessor organisations and associated organisations. The archive details the work of the Fund in shelters, hostels, internment camps, schools and foster homes.

Records include correspondence; reports; appeals; records relating to relief organisations including the Jewish Committee for Relief Abroad, the Pioneer Welfare Fund; the Medical Committee for Relief Abroad and the Jewish Board of Guardians; records relating to refugee organisations including the Central Committee for Refugees; the Central Office for Refugees; Jewish Refugees Committee and Children's Refugee Movements; records relating to the Agudas Israel World Organisation and the Israel Colonisation Organisation; administrative papers including Committee minutes and papers; and case files for Afghan, Argentine, Austrian, Belgian, British, Czech, Egyptian, Ethiopian, German, Hungarian, Iranian, Lebanese, Moroccan, Polish, Rumanian, Russian, South African, Syrian, American and Yugoslavian cases.

The records illustrate the varied activities of the LHTA and includes a good selection of Minute Books for Council and other committees. There is also a fine series of SBLHTA and LHTA Yearbooks and handbooks which include a full list of London Schools with names of head teachers.

Records of other activities are also included, for example, menus and programmes for social functions and guides to the Annual Exhibition at Westminster Central Hall. There is a small amount of material relating to Miss Louisa La Teller Swann, LHTA president 1928-9.

Correspondence of Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler, 1868-1901. A small number of records survive from around 1868 for the Chief Rabbinate of Nathan Adler and more from the late 1870s onwards - around the time Hermann Adler began to undertake many of his father's duties for him. The records consist of bundles of letters to the Chief Rabbi from communal organisations and individuals in Britain and overseas.
