Records of the Clitherow family, including account books of merchant James Clitherow, 1642-1682, (ref ACC/1360/435-440) giving details of his investment in voyages to the East Indies and elsewhere, his loans to relatives and others, and the deposits of money which he held on their account, as well as his purchase of Boston Manor, New Brentford, in 1670 and other lands.

Papers relating to properties acquired by Christopher Clitherow, including the 1696 exchange of the manors of Nether and Upper Bilsington in Kent with Thomas Rider for Pinners Hall and other property in Austin Friars in the City of London (see ACC/1360/017-019 and ACC/1360/153/1-2); the 1720 sale of the Langham estate (see ACC/1360/444) and a 1723 detailed description and valuation of Boston Manor and other property (ACC/1360/444). Also included are Christopher Clitherow's personal financial accounts.

Papers of James Clitherow {III} relating to the bequest of Martha Heddin of property in Twickenham, Isleworth and Heston. A substantial proportion of the Clitherow papers relate to his activities on behalf of others, together with those of his son Colonel James Clitherow, and also of a few trusts administered by his father, James {II}, grandfather, Christopher, brother Christopher, and nephew, General John Clitherow. For James Clitherow's accounts of the complex Kemeys trust see ACC/1360/666 and ACC/1360/628.

Papers of Colonel James Clitherow {IV} including title deeds of Sir Thomas Ingram's Almshouses in Isleworth (ref ACC/1360/656/1-18), of which Colonel Clitherow was treasurer, being largely responsible for raising a subscription for their repair in 1816. They also include extensive correspondence, accounts, vouchers, and other papers relating to the Royal Westminster Regiment of the Middlesex Militia 1796-1826 (ref ACC/1360/736-778) of which James Clitherow {IV} was Colonel.

Papers of the Reverend William James Stracey-Clitherow. His account books, diary, correspondence and papers relate mainly to affairs in Norfolk, where he was Vicar of Buxton and Rector of Skeyton and Oxnead from 1855 to 1888, as well as managing both his own and his brother's property in Norfolk.

Amongst the Clitherow papers are the letters and telegrams sent by Thomas Gurney to his mother and stepfather while he was serving overseas in the South African War 1901-1902 (ACC/1360/555/1-173) and in the 1st World War 1917-1919 (ACC/1360/556/1-37).

Correspondence and papers of John Bourchier Stracey-Clitherow relating to the management of the Boston Manor estate, including road widening and building schemes, sale of land, and the development of Clitherow Avenue (ACC/1360/523-527).

Papers, 1821-1847, collected by the solicitors in the course of their work, comprising lease for parcel of ground (measurements and abuttals given) at north west corner of White Conduit Fields, Islington and declaration of trust for the same premises at White Conduit Fields as well as a parcel of land and two messuages on north side of Speldhurst Street, Sandhills, Saint Pancras, both premises owned by George Dawe and Mary Margaret Dawe, of Saint Petersburg; and administration with will annexed of Samuel Serle, late of Brentford, commander in maritime service, East India Company.

Papers of the Manor of Hampton Court, including extracts from court rolls; leases; and legal documents relating to property ownership. Also extracts from court rolls for the Manor of Isleworth Syon.

Title deeds of the Cooke family relating to premises owned by them in Charing Cross, Westminster, including bargain and sales; leases; mortgages and probates.

Papers relating to property owned by the Bacon family, including copy of Act of Parliament to partition real estate devised by will of John Bacon of Friern Barnet containing an inventory of lands in question; notes of judgements in cases of debt brought against member of the Bacon family and accounts of debts and insolvency of Bacon family; legal opinion of liability of estates to creditors; agreement and conveyance for land in Muswell Hill.

Diaries of Charles Frederick de Coetlogon, covering the years 1817, 1818, 1822, 1823, 1826, 1827, 1828, 1831, 1832, 1833-34 in part, and 1835. They are pocket sized and contain miscellaneous printed information. Each double page is divided into journal and account sections, and de Coetlogon meticulously records his personal accounts in the latter. His income is drawn from annuities and he constantly rebukes himself for living beyond his means. The accounts present a detailed picture of the price of food (fish sauce @ 2/-), domestic items (pins @ 3d.), servant's wages (£14. 14s. per annum), entertainment (opera ticket @ 8s. 6d.), and incidental expenses (hair cutting @ 1s. 6d.).

Records of the Smith-Bosanquet family of Broxbournebury, comprising court roll for the Manor of Chelsea, 1337-1341; court roll for the Manor of Hackney, 1531; indentures relating to property in the parish of Saint Giles in the Fields, Holborn, 1658; and receipt relating to a fine for messuages in the parish of Saint Giles in the Fields, Holborn, 1658.

Hampton Court Gas Company records, 1850-1892, including the deed of settlement, contracts and specifications, bills and receipts, lists of share-holders and share certificates, title deeds to property, correspondence and the seal of the company.

Collection of research into the local history of Friern Barnet and environs, carried out by C.O. Banks. The papers include copies of court rolls, research notes, lectures, statistics, extracts from parish records, copies and extracts of wills, legal proceedings, notes on important buildings and people, newspaper cuttings, licences, geneaological notes, sales particulars, estate agents plans, reports, photographs, articles, books and pamphlets on the local history, and maps of Friern Barnet and surrounding areas.

Records of the Bridges family relating to premises in Edmonton, Enfield, Pinner, Harrow, Hillingdon, Isleworth, Tottenham, Hackney, Twickenham, Clapton, Hampstead, Islington, Holborn, Copyright to this collection rests with the City of London., Clerkenwell, Shoreditch, Chelsea, Bloomsbury, Stepney, City of Westminster, and Saint Clement Danes. The documents include releases, leases, extracts from court rolls, marriage certificates and settlements, legal case papers including Chancery court, probates, letters of administration, leases, abstracts of title, and conveyances. Also appointments by Justices of the Peace of John George Bridges and John William Bridges, both of 54, Torrington Square, as Special Constables, 1848.

Records of the Child and Jersey families relating to their estates. Papers relating to the Manor of Osterley, Heston include wills, deeds, papers relating to the Jersey title to the manor, steward's accounts, fee books, quit rents, bailiffs bills, rent rolls, enclosure awards, plans, correspondence, sales particulars, court books, minute books, surrenders, licences to demise and warrants. Also papers relating to the Manor of Hayes with Norwood and Southall, including admissions, surrenders and enfranchisements, quit rents, and court papers; and "Isleworth Syon's Peace", volume of agreements dating to 1656.

Records of Woodbridge and Sons, solicitors, 1281-1960, including:

*Official records, with papers of the Uxbridge Poor Law Union, Rural Sanitary Authority and Rural District Council, and of the Uxbridge Petty Sessions (members of the firm being clerks to these bodies) and also of the Harlington Tithe Commissioners, whose clerk was William Mercer, a solicitor with no apparent connection with the Woodbridge firm;

*Charity records, comprising account books, minutes, letter books, deeds and papers of the Lords in Trust of the Manor and borough of Uxbridge, later known as the Uxbridge United Charities;

• Administrative records of the firm including account books, salaries books and partnership agreements; and

• Practice papers, which themselves fall into several groups, namely, deeds of property of which the firm became mortgagee, Woodbridge family deeds and private papers, and clients' papers, by far the largest section. A large number of probates, letters of administration and unproved wills were preserved by the firm as a separate class. The rest of the clients' papers are preserved in separate personal or family groups (covering in many cases two or three generations); since many of the documents are title deeds, these bundles have been arranged according to the parish in which their property lay, although where a family owned property in more than one parish, the whole group has been listed under the parish in which the clients resided. An index of places is provided. Original bundling has been preserved although this has sometimes interfered with the logical arrangment. Where necessary for clarification, family trees have been included; although as accurate as possible these do not claim to be comprehensive.

Records of the Parish of Saint Marylebone, comprising an order of removal from Saint Marylebone to Saint Botolph without Aldgate.

Records of the Elizabeth Newcomen School, Southwark, including minutes of the Governors of the Schools; admission registers; papers concerning Mrs Newcomen's will and a subsequent legal case between the Wardens of St. Saviour's and her godson, Thomas Lant; and the administration of the property which forms the endowment of the charity.

Records of London County Council midwife Agnes Morris. These registers, printed by the London County Council Public Health Department, include the name, address and age of the mother, the date and hour of the child's birth, its sex and whether it was a live or dead birth, with other information about the attendances of the midwife and other doctors or nurses and remarks of a medical nature of the birth. With few exceptions the mothers concerned lived in Peckham until 1952. From 1953 to 1956 the cases were in Balham and Tooting and from 1956 to 1957 in Woolwich.

The volumes are closed under the Data Protection Act. Volume 1 will be open from 2015; volume 2 from 2018 and volume 3 from 2023. Please ask a member of staff for more information.

The register MS23634 refers to baptisms, marriages and burials in places outside Bucharest. It is possible the ceremonies recorded in the registers MS24118, MS24119 and MS24120 likewise took place outside Bucharest, although this is not clear from the volumes.
