The papers are extensive but by no means comprehensive. There is no personal or biographical material and very little record of Thompson's research. On the other hand his contributions to international science and football are extensively documented. There is a very full record of Thompson's Foreign Secretaryship of the Royal Society and his organisation of the European chemical conferences (EUCHEM) and substantial documentation of his work for ICSU and IUPAC, including the Commission on Molecular Spectroscopy and the Triple Commission on Spectroscopy. Thompson's contributions to international relations were not limited to science (or football) and he kept detailed records of his Chairmanship from 1972 of the Great Britain - China Committee (later Great Britain - China Centre). The football papers are substantial, particularly for the last decade of Thompson's life, and thus there is full documentation of his Chairmanship of the Football Association and of the many problems facing football at that time, including hooliganism amongst its supporters.

Papers of Max Lock, 1936-1988, produced and collected by Max Lock and the Max Lock Group, relate to Lock's career as a planner and architect and to wider issues in planning, particularly after World War Two, and comprise working papers (including survey papers) and finished material.

They include correspondence; notes and card indexes; photographs (some aerial), slides, drawings, maps and plans; Bills, Acts, white papers and other official publications; books, articles, reports and other publications (some annotated); typescripts; press cuttings; and conference papers. The bulk of the material dates from the 1940s to the early 1970s. Constitution, council and other minutes, reports and other papers of British Institute of Musculoskeletal Medicine (BIMM) and of one of its two predecessor organisations, the British Association of Manipulative Medicine (BAMM), 1987-2000. In addition to the official papers there is much correspondence and other documentation created by or sent to Malcolm Morrison, who was active in both bodies and eventually became President of BIMM. The latter material contains a large amount of information on medical education, including draft syllabi.

BAMM and subsequently BIMM served as the British representative bodies within the Fédération International de Médecine Manuelle (FIMM); the collection includes some material on FIMM meetings and some discussion of the body's future.

There is also a very little information on activities of the British League Against Rheumatism (BLAR).
