Memoirs from the internment of Hugo Rosenstock during 1940 and 1941. This collection consists of two items: an original illustrated account of life as an internee of an internment camp on Douglas, Isle of Man, 1940-1941 and an undated typescript family history by another family member. The first item comprises a series of individual sketches of camp life mostly in verse form, which have subsequently been bound together and foliated. There is a contents page, though no introduction completes the volume.

The statement confirms that the content of a pamphlet entitled 'The Truth about the 'Protocols'- a Literary Forgery' by Graves, published in The Times, Aug 1921, is true.

Copies of correspondence, 26 Apr 1946-21 Nov 1988, mostly from Hermann Maas, a German protestant minister, to Paul and Martha Rosenzweig, two siblings, Jewish 'Mischlinge' emigrés, whom Maas helped to save from the Nazis.

Typescript letter from [Lotte] to Isa, 4 Nov 1951, describing her life since 1940, including failed attempts to flee Europe for San Domingo and later USA, 1940; transportation to Theresienstadt concentration camp, Nov 1941, where she remained until Aug 1945, working as a nurse; return to Prague after the war and emigration to Canada, 1947.

Papers concerning German Jews in Austria, 1933-1934, notably reports of the Österreichischen Hilfskomitee für deutsche Juden, outlining the plight of German Jews in Austria, 1933-1934; correspondence between Lord Melchett and Leo Bakstansky; letter from the Hilfskomitee to the Haut Commissariat pour les réfugiés Provenant d'Allemagne, saying that they cannot continue to give financial support to the refugees from Germany and copy of a letter to the Israelitische Allianz zu Wien saying that the allocations committee of the British Fund for German Jewry cannot make a grant to them, 1934.

Papers of Hitahadut Olej Germania, 1933-1934, an activity report, are divided into sections notably including correspondence from abroad providing details about prospective emigrants,including first help on arrival, economic organisation, cultural work, social work and financial report, 1933-1934; proposal for a credit bank, 1934; information circular regarding agricultural developments, 1934; remarks on the future work of Hitahadut Olej Germania, [1933-1934] and report on the remit of the Agricultural Department of Hitahadut Olej Germania, [1933-1934].

Papers of Hugo and Gretel Klein, 1942, comprise translations and copies of the last letters written by Hugo and Gretel Klein of Bad Neustadt, to their children, who they sent to the USA for safety during World War Two.

Letter seeking advice regarding behaviour, c 1931, comprises a letter addressed to the leadership of the 'NSDAP', Muenchen Braunes Haus, with response from R L Uschla, requesting advice on how to conduct oneself with a Jew.

Papers of Hampstead Garden Suburb Care Committee for Refugee Children, 1938-[1939], comprise two alphabetical series of cards detailing the children's particulars and another cancelled series of the same, these are arranged alphabetically and concern German and Austrian Jewish refugee children, many with passport-size photographs attached, [1939]; index cards giving details of sponsors, sometimes specifying a child, 1938; index cards giving name and address of individuals with whom children lodged, including details about children and maintenance costs, [1939] and a Hampstead Garden Suburb Care Committee for Refugee Children form for potential sponsors, [1939].

Papers of Siegfried Kessler, a Czech Jewish exile in London, 1939-1944, chiefly correspondence between organisations and individuals, shedding light on the conditions for Czech Jews in Czechoslovakia in the early years of the Second World War and the processes involved in Jewish emigration from Czechoslovakia.

Papers concerning Kristallnacht, 1939-1960, notably includes responses from rabbis to the Wiener Library, regarding the fate of their former synagogues in Germany during Kristallnacht, 1939; statistics on the fate of synagogues in Germany during Kristallnacht, 1939 and 1960; a translation of a Nazi document regarding the fate of synagogues in Germany during Kristallnacht and copies of contemporary Nazi newspaper extracts describing events on the same night, undated.

Papers concerning antisemitic measures in Nazi Germany, 1938, comprising a typescript copy of an order given by Hermann Wilhelm Goering outlining Adolf Hitler's decisions concerning Jews and their property and residence; including use of dining cars and sleepers on trains; ban from entry to certain hotels and restaurants; pensions and mixed marriages. The collection includes an English translation.

French Anti-Nazi leaflet, 1938, entitled 'Et Voici La Preuve', which disclaims the thesis that the Kristallnacht pogrom was a spontaneous, popular, outpouring of anger. The leaflet incorporates a facsimile of a document from the Kriminalpolizei, Vienna, headed 'Judenaktion' in which it is made obvious that Kristallnacht was organised from above.

Papers concerning conditions in Europe for Jews, 1940-1946, comprise a typescript copy of a diary written by a Jewish refugee from Berlin, describing life in Belgium during the occupation, 1944; copies of extracts from Luxemburg newspapers regarding press freedom; postcard of the Luxemburg Synagogue, which was burned down in 1940, 1940-[1945] and many typescript reports concerning conditions for Jews, notably including a report on the effect of the ceasefire agreement between Germany and France on people in the French camps and also on Jews in the occupied and unoccupied zones of France.

Papers of refugee organisations, 1930s, comprise various reports and papers concerning refugees, notably including the Council for German Jewry's Report for 1937; papers regarding application for asylum in the USA and South Africa and a periodical entitled 'Information Service', issued by the International Bureau for the Right of Asylum and Aid to Political Refugees, concerning refugees from Nazi Germany in France.

Papers of the Central British Fund for World Jewish Relief, 1933-1965, detail the work of the CBF in shelters, hostels, internment camps, schools and foster homes, and also contain information on the finances of the fund. World Jewish Congress Central files on microfilm, 1919-1976, comprising Sub-series 1: Organisational History and Activities, 1919-1970, includes correspondence, minutes and publications and reports related to the organisational and political activities of the WJC and its forerunner, the Committee of Jewish Delegations. Reports on the history and activities of the WJC from before its inception through to the 1960s are also included in this sub-series. Significant subjects covered include anti-Semitism, relief for refugees, and relations with the League of Nations. More material dealing with WJC activities in Europe during the 1930s can be found in Sub-series 2 under the Stephen S. Wise/Lillie Shultz and Nahum Goldmann papers, and under Pre-WJC Conferences and the First Plenary Assembly (1936) in Sub-series 3.

Sub-series 2. Executive Correspondence and Project Files, 1920, 1931-1975, includes records and reports from the files of WJC presidents (Stephen S. Wise, Nahum Goldmann); chairmen of the Executive Committee (Nahum Goldmann, Israel Goldstein); followed by the administrative/executive directors of the New York office (Abraham S. Hyman, Monty Jacobs, Yehuda Ebstein, Greta Beigel). The sub-series contains general correspondence arranged chronologically, individual and departmental correspondence, country files, subject files, speeches, and publications.

Sub-series 3: Plenary Assemblies, pre-1936 conferences, and special conferences, 1932-1975, contains minutes, proceedings, reports, and other materials dealing with three pre-WJC conferences together with extensive files for the first six WJC Plenary Assemblies (1936-1975). Also included are materials pertaining to the War Emergency Conference (1944) and the Inter-American Jewish Conference (1941).

Sub-series 4: Committees, 1940-1976, consists of 33 boxes in its original format. This sub-series contains materials pertaining to committee meetings (Office, Administrative, Executive). The Executive Committee files include material from the South American, European, and Israeli Branches of the Executive. Within the files for each committee/branch, materials are arranged chronologically.

Personal and family papers, 1900-1939, ranging from First World War army records to correspondence and passports of several hundred Jews, handed over to the Reichsvereinigung der Juden in Deutschland whilst the individuals were waiting in collection centres, having been rounded up by the Nazis prior to deportation to Eastern Europe. The College records are only a part of the English Provincial Archive of the Society of the Sacred Heart, which contains a large collection of archival material relating to convents, colleges and training schools founded by the Society. These records include papers of Cannington Priory Church and Convent, [1843-1975]; the convent at Roscrea, Ireland, [1842-1884], the first foundation in the British Isles; the convent at Woldingham, Roehampton, [1842-1992], including material relating to Woldingham School; the convent at West Hill, Wandsworth, 1874-1975, including papers relating to attached schools; the convent in St Charles' Square, 1905-1946, and Roehampton, 1946-1992, including papers relating to attached schools, [1906-1994]; the convent at Hammersmith, [1672-1994], including papers of the attached schools; the convents at Blackheath and Goodrington, [1903-1975], and Leamington, [1913]; the convent at Bonchurch, [1904-1975]; the convent at Tunbridge Wells, [1915-1973], with material relating to the training school; the convent at Oxford, [1902-1972]; the convent at Fenham, Newcastle, [1828-1998], including a history of the site and material concerning the attached schools and St Mary's Training College; and papers relating to small communities at Gateshead, Burnham, Bexhill, Blyth and Southall, [1984-2000]. The Provincial Archive also holds the papers of AMASC (World Association of the Alumnae of the Sacred Heart), NASHE (National Association of the Sacred Heart, England and Wales) and associated groups, 1957-1995.

There is a large collection of photographs relating to all of the above, as well as historical material relating to the Roehampton area, [1724-1995], mainly relating to buildings owned and including plans, deeds, and specifications relating to 'Roehampton House' (now Queen Mary's Hospital) and 'Parkstead' (now Manresa House); historical material relating to Wimbledon and Putney.

Letter from P Crewe of Aston, [Birmingham] to an unnamed clergyman 16 Sep 1699. 'I thnk God and Sr W A for my fie, and you for joyning us togather: excuse a trifle sent you on the occasion as thus - The unrepented yeare is past, / The parsons gloves are sent att last: / What Witam had, att Oxford are / On that account another paire. / On ye other side is ye originall and ye cause of this mean rime.' The writer tells the story of Mr Hodges, the Parson of Wytham, near Oxford, who had asked couples that he married to send him a pair of gloves if they had never regretted their marriage during its first year; he received only one pair in 40 years. Including short verses in Latin and English reportedly written by Hodges.

Letter from John Eliot of London to Edward Carroll via the Post Office, Worcester, 16 Jan 1819. Referring to the Meeting for Sufferings held the previous day at which the petition to the House of Commons on the subject of capital punishment was signed by the 38 members present 'and liberty was given for any that were then absent to add their names by calling at the Clerk's Office. The subscription is - Signed by us, member of a Meeting for conducting the affairs of the said Society [the Religious Society of Friends], in the intervals of the Yearly Meeting - London, the 15th of 1mo. 1819 ...'
