This series of Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) Secretary's new buildings files, 1959-1982, is in part a continuation of A.IALS 4 in that it comprises building, works and maintenance files of Drake, Steiner and Boxhall. This new file series appears to have been instituted c1966 to cover papers relating to the new building at Charles Clore House, 17 Russell Square. The bulk of the files comprise Boxhall's papers as IALS Secretary, following the division of the dual function of the Secretary as librarian and administrator in 1971 into two components. Papers consist of: file of press cuttings concerning proposed creation of a University of London precinct, 1959; 'New building' files, covering premises, 1961-1964, general notes, 1963-1972, services, 1965-1976, development policy, 1968-1977, television, 1968-1972, furniture and fittings lists, 1970-1971, notes on furniture grants, 1970-1979, shelving, 1972-1976, telephones, 1972-1976, kitchen electrical services, 1972-1974, maintenance, 1973-1977, opening ceremony, 1973-1976, the Howard Drake Room, 1974, the Council Room, 1974, the move to the new building, 1974-1976, Sir Douglas Logan's Room, 1975, and insurance for the premises, 1975-1982.
Appraised and listed by the Archivist in 1999. Considerable weeding was carried out to remove duplicates and ephemera.
No further accruals are expected.
