Biographical history
This area was traditionally the responsibility of the Director of Corporate Affairs. The College employed freelancers for occasional press work until 2000 when they decided to appoint a permanent Press Officer. In 2006 the College set up a Department for Communications and External Affairs, reporting to the Directorate of Corporate Affairs.

Records of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists relating to communications, public relations and external affairs, detailing the following activities:
- Public relations: promoting the RCOG to the media and public.
- Press and media relations: liasing with the media, issuing press releases, position statements, organising press conferences, maintaining a register of RCOG spokespersons.
- Parliamentary and government affairs: lobbying MPs and civil servants, organising ministerial briefings and events.
- Issues management: researching the news agenda, forecasting issues that will affect RCOG, managing the socio-political consequences.
- Promoting recruitment into Obstetrics and Gynaecology to medical students and young doctors. The records include: promotional material produced by the College (1980-2008); press cuttings; annual reports from 1932 to the present day (excluding 1934-1938, 1945-1947 and 1949); College position statements and press notices (1987-1993).
Weeded of duplicate publications, copies of which were already held in the College Archives.
